"Tiquicia", Escazu

Great aptmosphere, open air construction and killer view of the entire central valley. The "Tabla" is a must, all types of meat including chicharron and three types of picadillo. Not quite gourmet but classic tico at its best. I give the food here a 9.

Mr. Shady, knowing you as well as i do, i am not quite sure why you have this sudden fascination with food and why you think that maybe you are a person that knows the difference between good and bad culinary treats.......
Banco de Mariscos one of my choices and i don't really like seafood that much, but as fat as i am i DO know good food.
P.S
egg foo young is NOT one of the the culinary masterpieces in this world!!!! Glad to see you happy in your new position. me, EGG

Hahaha....well Egg..alot has changed man, alot has changed. One of my loves in life nowadays is 'Food'. I am even learning how to cook and I say 'learning' because you can never learn it all but yes, I have developed an accute sixth sense for all that is culinary. Thus, I have started my own little culinary corner. Kind of like 'The Essence of Slim'. So yes, I am now an authority in all that is culinary in the making. LOL /infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And I'll be rating all the munchies around here from now own. Let's go out for lunch one of these days. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

This isn't fine dining or anything but the other day I went to Mil Sabores on Paseo Colon. For the price, I must say I was pretty impressed.

I had a Johnny Walker red before the meal, my girl ordered a non-alcoholic Piña Coloda, I had some kind of beef tips with vegetables in a spicy sauce (zhez-wan, or something please excuse my ignorance on chinese food), my girl had the chop suey of the house, both plates were nice with fresh vegetable, nice meats and pleasant sauce. With dinner I had a glass of Concha y Toro tinto.

As I say I realize this isn't fine dining but the bill totaled to less than c7,000, seemed damn cheap to me.

Hey Boys, Newbie here. I like Chinese,Italian,Seafood and Mexican. Drop some suggestions.

Where is the best Pizza? Chain? not a chain?

My 2 cents For chinese in Pavas Ciudad Ventura
Recommend Fried Rice, #43 chicken with Veggies and 82 a noodle dish with all the meats.
Flor De leto near subway/Corobici. Nothing fantastic but generally good.
Havent found any Chino worth recommending around Sabana
McDonalds Egg McQueso for 250 Colones provides value and hits the spot in the mornings.
Lena Dor in Pavas is great for chicken and rice, but they always $(*$*( my order up, so they have one more chance Arroz con Pollo sin vegetales, sin ensalada, sin pappas con pico de gallo . They are like a 10-1 dog on getting it right.
Seafood-Princess Marina near Pavas/Sabana has great sopa de mariscos, and I liek the paella. Great value across the board.
Samurai's is great and Il vernadero but a little pricey.

Sushi Itto sucks, Il Pomodoro service is bad great seafood risotto, Tex-mex pretty good. Il Gatto pretty good.

Definately Judge,

I haven't been to the others but I'm told that the one in Barrio San Jose, Alajuela is the best of the chain, in my mind well worth the trip.

08-03-2002, 02:05 PM
where exactly is this place?

kaya man
08-03-2002, 02:19 PM
Slim,

You get to Barrio San Jose like this. Find the cementary in Alajuela on one of the famous "calles anchas". On one corner is the cementary and on the diagonal corner there's a Pizza Hut if you're on the side of the street that Pizza Hut is on take a left, if you're on the side the cementary is on take a right. The restaurant is on that street just stay on it for about 5 miles. You'll pass a gas station on your left then a supermarket on the left, around there is a "club campestre algo" with a sign that says Mariscaria Kache keep going. You'll get to a hill that goes down a bit, curves to the left and goes back up. Reaching the top of the hill at that point you should see a small plaza/park on the left. Just after that on your right is La Princesa Marina. If you get lost just ask, everybody in Alajuela knows where Barrio San Jose is and most know where La Princesa Marina is.

08-03-2002, 02:48 PM
Ohhh, going to La Garita! yeah I know where it is.

Hey Just another bored bookie,

We ordered Princess Marina a couple of weeks ago here in the office and as soon as the lids came off WOW what a stench.

The seafood soup looked like it was spooned out of a mud puddle and my fish went straight into the trash. It was bright yellow from ...? and just bad bad bad.

People were complaining about how bad the office stank after that. How the hell does Marina stay in business serving crap like that? I will never order there again.

Oh... for BEST seafood soup, my vote goes for the parihuela sp? soup at the Peruvian restarant in Paco. The Inca Grill. Its FABULOUS! A few wines Alba next door is good too.

For best chicken soup, the Caldo Real at Tex Mex.

Slim-
Princess Marina in Sabana leave office centro and go left toward the pista, it is right across the street from where you get on the pista to go to escazu and santa ana. Obviously some people dont like it and some do. I think you should try it out for yourself as the quality and quantity for the price I find tough to beat.
The belly is getting to big, so I am slowing down on eating, however I did find a new restaurant and it was one of my best meals in CR in Guachepelin between Multiplaza and Tre Fratellis is a Greek reataurant Zorba's highly recommend it. Pita and Hummus, nice fresh greek salad with zesty Feta and had the seafood platter for 2, it was food for 3. When I lose a few pounds planning on going back and sampling the mixed chicked, lamb, beef platter for 3100 cc. This restaurant is on the same street as Peppers.
In regards to Peppers, Evertime I go in there it is empty or maybe people at 1 table, there are 3 or 4 guys waiting to make my burrito. this is very close to an American style burrito. The one I like is Grilled fish burrito. I feel like I am getting value because the chicken, beef and fish burrito is the same price, but every where else you pay more for fish!!!
I get the jumbo grilled dorado burrito, Oregano Tortilla light whole beans, rice, a little cheese, Pico de gallo, a little hot sauce.

rating 9.9 hits the spot!!!

thx for the tip judge, where exactly is it, I know where the Scotia Bank is, Samurai, Tre Fratellis and the Movie theater down the street from Scotia Bank. I think I am close!!

Great place, forget the name though. Located in Sabana, I think they may have another store somewhere else.

Anyways, gosh I forget the fricking name, but its real easy to find. On main road in front of Offi-central. Head East like your going to San Jose. At end of street before you turn, on right hand side there is a red and yellow building. It is easily Idenifiable, I believe there is an up-side double "U" on a post in front.

Burgers are greasy but good
Fries are greasy but very tasty
Lots of burger varietys
And they have an ice cream machine
Check it out. I think theres a swing-set in the back if you have kids.
It looks like a family place.
One problem. I don't think they sell alcohol.
But the food was great.

For those who lived in Venezuela and enjoyed Arepas, there is a little restaraunt run by a venezuelan guy in Santa Ana that specializes in them.

In the same shopping centre as La Casa de Urraca and Mega 2000 is a little lunch place called ?? where they make, chicken, beef, tuna and avacado, bean and cheese etc arepas.

Sure... they are not cooked on the fire grill like in Venezuela, they are done in a little machine thing, but they are still yummy.

Hey S...

Shows you how desperate I am for some fishy. Should have used McCormick & Schmicks insead.

B.T.W. The sampler platter does not come with the whole lomito steak.

The 20 dimes includes the platter & a steak.

Forgot to mention the homemade dark brew that is made by the padres.

A couple more places I have eaten at lately was the spanish place in plaza itskazu by outback and a fondu place right near the bowling alley in that new shopping center. Both places were real solid. Checkem out if u get a chance.

We had nachos at hooligans today. I would give them about a 2 rating.

I swear they poured a whole bottle of sour cream on them. And if you don't think sour cream comes in bottles, you had to see this mess... /infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

The BEST nachos in CR are at Tex-Mex in Santa Ana.

Get the super nachos w/chicken and you can administer as much sour cream and guacamole you want. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Judge: That old guy (waiter) at Icarus is the creepiest guy ever! I LOVE their tomatoe soup!
