New York NCAA teams?

okay this is a newbie bit so i can post and not look like a mook
my question is this
seeing as New York is such a big place,why do they not have any NCAA teams? or do they and they are just not called New York in their name?

I assume you are speaking of football? if so you are correct,Closest team to NY city that is division 1 A is probably Rutgers, unless you consider COlumbia a football team? ALso Army,. Basketball there are several teams in NY City, St Johns,Hofstra(I believe that is Long Island),Columbia.THose oare off the top of my head. In the state of NY for football, Division 1A, SYc, Buffalo, Army. THere are probably more just can't think of them right now.
