I'm going with nope...J. Lo has never had a movie open to more than 17 million, and despite all the press, she's not as big a draw as you'd think.
True, it is the only romantic comedy out there, but the same was said for Analyze That being the only adult comedy out there...
but,if selena hadn`t died in such an untimely, tragic manner, nobody would know who jennifer lopez is....very strange....there are a million girls in california much better looking and more talented......she is shrewd though, with all the celebrity boyfriends and all....keeping herself in the public eye..she is one lucky woman...give me salma hayek(spelling?) in a heartbeat.
the studio is expecting between 15 and 20 million for MAID IN MANHATTAN. J Lo's picture is everywhere and it has high awareness. I think their estimates are a tad high. this is just my gut feeling based on my years on the business and the fact that she is opposite Ralph Fiennes, which I always though was a strange combo.
this is a tough weekend to predict--Star Trek has its core business of 20 + and I'm not sure how much of that business takes away from other movies. HOT CHICK is getting all the teenage boys, which might drag away some of the girls from MAID. Fox has had sucess with urban movies lately, so I expect DRUMLINE will do a fair amount of business (7 to 10) and will take some business that would've gone to MAID. However, historically there isn't enough $$$ to go around to cover all of these movies. One or more of them might take a real hit. I haven't been real impressed with Sony's tracking lately, so I'm going to say that MAID IN MANHATTAN will not do more than 18 million. however, I was dead wrong on ANALYZE THAT, so you might not want to listen to me.
good luck

nice analysis,ac.....your experience and opinion are definitely very helpful....it is appreciated in this corner...g.l.
looks like hot chick is taking the hit. maid should stay under 18, but if they do a lot of business tonight, it might just creep over.
bad weather on the east coast tonight would ensure that it does not go over 18 million.

wait for the official numbers on tuesday. I don't believe the sony estimates and think they might be fudging a little bit for the publicity.

i`m taking a hit with these flicks....giving back my football and boxing winnings....damn...
