First two have been very good performers and no reason to believe that will not continue. Alot of people have bought SIRI the past year, but the long term fundamentals are excellent. I also own siri.

Let me start with SIRI comments....First of the product is amazing...very easy to use, install, and relatively inexpensive for the amount you are getting.

Second the Mgt. team at SIRI is second to none.
I see this tech. just like Cell phones or PDA...Yes they have a $ start up cost....but it is the wave of the future.....Radio needs commercials to survive. Sat. radio has none...this feeds into our need for NOW as a society.

Lastly don't be surprised 5 yrs from now if both XM and SIRI merge to form one giant Sat. company....IE ATT and CELLULAR....That being said I think both companies lONG TERM are EXCELLENT.......I just think SIRI has the greater upside with the stock price being more affordable.

Back with write ups on the other two.....If anyone would like any financial info on SIRI just ask......Once again I think this "new forum" is going to be great STOCKS are like legal gambling.

[QUOTE=joelatti]Let me start with SIRI comments

HEY JOE....I HAD THIS STOCK AT $1.38 BACK IN MAR 2003....SOLD IT AT 8.51
ALSO AT THE SAME TIME I GOT XM AT $5.43....SOLD IT AT $29 +

IN 2004 I HAD TO PAY THE IRS OVER 60K ON THOSE TWO STOCK...IT WAS A GREAT YEAR.....ALSO THAT WHY I BET ALOT ON THE NFL THAT YEAR

BUT NOW....EVERYONE KNOW ABOUT THIS STOCK....BACK IN 2003 ONLY 2-3 MILLION A DAY.....NOW OVER 50M....

SIRI GOT A LOT TO PAY OUT....NFL... HOWARD....ECT.....ITS GOING TO TAKE A GOOD YEAR TO GET UP TO $10 A SHR....I STILL THINK YOU CAN MAKE A GOOD 25% ON YOUR MONEY BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR

WE NEED IT TO KICK A$$ THIS FOOTBALL YEAR

GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND

4. Sirius Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) (http://quote.fool.com/uberdata.asp?symbols=SIRI): $6.02
Unless you've been living under a rock, you have probably heard a lot about satellite radio by now. Then again, I hear the reception is still pretty good under said rock, so you really have no excuse for not knowing about Sirius and its only rival, XM Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: XMSR) (http://quote.fool.com/uberdata.asp?symbols=XMSR).

Featuring more than 120 channels of commercial-free music and ad-sponsored spoken content, Sirius and XM have been winning over terrestrial radio's most ardent listeners. By the end of the year, XM and Sirius expect to combine for at least 8.2 million subscribers -- that's 3 million more than they had at the end of March.

While there are plenty of reasons to be excited about both satellite radio players, Sirius -- despite its smaller subscriber base -- seems to have a bright future. In January 2006, Howard Stern will kiss conventional radio goodbye and move over to Sirius. Love him? Hate him? Either way, his syndicated show is an ear magnet. Sirius also has the exclusive satellite radio broadcasting rights to the NFL and recently wrestled the NASCAR contract away from XM.

Despite its share price, Sirius isn't exactly cheap. With more than 1.3 billion shares outstanding, the company already commands a market cap of $8 billion. That's more than the combined -- and multiplied -- total of A.D.A.M., The Knot, and Jones Soda. But XM and Sirius will grow to define the future of audio entertainment. If you're not already, I recommend that you get up to speed on this very dynamic sector. You'll understand the beauty of having only two companies controlling the domestic market.

Ok Blue,

If you have the extra money, buy SIRI and XMSR for there is plenty of room on upside. A small investment today may buy your new childs first car or pay for some educational expenses.

Banc of America Securities sees upside potential for satellite radio stocks in the second quarter, saying that business trends remain strong. "Based on our channel checks, we see upside potential in second-quarter net adds for both Sirius Satellite Radio (nasdaq: SIRI (http://www.forbes.com/finance/mktguideapps/compinfo/CompanyTearsheet.jhtml?tkr=SIRI) - news (http://www.forbes.com/markets/company_news.jhtml?ticker=SIRI)- people (http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/results.jhtml?startRow=0&name=&ticker=SIRI)) and XM Satellite Radio Holdings (nasdaq: XMSR (http://www.forbes.com/finance/mktguideapps/compinfo/CompanyTearsheet.jhtml?tkr=XMSR) - news (http://www.forbes.com/markets/company_news.jhtml?ticker=XMSR)- people (http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/results.jhtml?startRow=0&name=&ticker=XMSR))," said Banc of America. "Checks indicate strong ongoing business, with minimal changes to churn and continued high demand. We expect Sirius to take an increasingly larger share of retail net additions in the third and fourth quarter to 44% and 47% due to the '[Howard] Stern' effect; XM will counter with tech-enhanced products." The research firm said it believes Sirius will have a larger percentage upside in the second quarter; the company has gained lost market share due to a $50 rebate promotion. Banc of America noted, however, that average revenue per unit, or ARPU, could be hurt in the third quarter. The research firm maintained a "buy" rating on shares of XM with a $40 price target. Sirius is rated at "neutral" with a $5.50 price target. "Christmas will be the battle of Sirius' 'Stern' launch versus the enhanced XM portable device. But 2006 might belong to XM when Toyota begins to introduce vehicles. And the winner will be. . .both companies in the second half of 2005," said Banc of America. "Both companies will benefit from the strong consumer demand in the satellite radio offerings." However, Banc of America continues to favor XM over Sirius, noting that cash burn isn't a major concern for XM, that XM shares trade at a 30% discount to projected 2006 subscribers and that XM has a dominant OEM share (about 60%). In the radio and TV broadcasting sector, Banc of America's top "buy"-rated picks are Univision Communications (nyse: UVN (http://www.forbes.com/finance/mktguideapps/compinfo/CompanyTearsheet.jhtml?tkr=UVN) - news (http://www.forbes.com/markets/company_news.jhtml?ticker=UVN)- people (http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/results.jhtml?startRow=0&name=&ticker=UVN)) and Radio One (nasdaq: ROIA (http://www.forbes.com/finance/mktguideapps/compinfo/CompanyTearsheet.jhtml?tkr=ROIA) - news (http://www.forbes.com/markets/company_news.jhtml?ticker=ROIA)- people (http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/results.jhtml?startRow=0&name=&ticker=ROIA)). Its "least favorite" picks, rated at "neutral," are Sirius and Citadel Broadcasting (nyse: CDL (http://www.forbes.com/finance/mktguideapps/compinfo/CompanyTearsheet.jhtml?tkr=CDL) - news (http://www.forbes.com/markets/company_news.jhtml?ticker=CDL)- people (http://www.forbes.com/peopletracker/results.jhtml?startRow=0&name=&ticker=CDL)).

A word to the wise....You live by the oil barrel and you die by it... Service industry should be adversely affected by the increasing price of oil... So will retailers (watch out those who own target) airlines (if i were a player in the market i would buy up Southwest airlines because they always profit from these increases in gas prices from hordes of people who scale down and use them as their primary airline)

Effects of the oil prices should start showing up in the economy very soon and if i am not mistaken, its the service industries that are normally affected first.

One should think carefully about restaurants.

so sayeth the wise Alnando!!!!

It seems that all of the satellite radio firms are doing well this week. While XM Satellite Radio Holdings (XMSR) was hobnobbing with Hyatt, Sirius Satellite Radio SIRI (http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/inc/news/quoteredir.asp?symbol=US:SIRI) was brushing up on its Berlitz by learning Chinese and Korean. SIRI announced yesterday that it has inked a deal with privately held MultiCultural Radio Broadcasting to begin diversifying the linguistics of its airwaves. Investors are apparently embracing a seriously multilingual divergence for the company, as the stock has jumped more than 11 percent in the past two sessions. Checking the security's short term performance, we find that SIRI has advanced steadily higher along the support of its 10-day and 20-day moving averages since late April, when the shares bottomed at a near-term low. From a long-term perspective, SIRI's 10-month and 20-month moving averages have pushed the shares higher since April 2003. However, the 6.89 area (near the area of SIRI's peak in today's session) marks a 50-percent retracement of its December 7 high of 9.43 and its April low of 4.357. Combine this with long-term resistance at the seven level, and SIRI could be in for a tough fight for higher ground. Looking toward the equity's sentiment backdrop, we find some potential fuel for the security to breach this level of overhead resistance, but will it be enough? Options players certainly aren't' making it easy on the security, as the stock's Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) of 0.41 indicates that calls more than double puts in the front three months of options. Furthermore, this ratio is nearing complacent levels with a percentile rank of 57. The remainder of SIRI's quantitative indicators is considerably more encouraging. Despite a seven-percent decline in the number of SIRI shares sold short during June, the 101.5 million shorted shares still represent nearly eight percent of the stock's total float. On Wall Street, we uncover some additional pessimistic sentiment toward SIRI. According to Zacks, 15 of the 22 covering analysts still rate the shares a "hold" or worse. However, comments made by one brokerage firm yesterday indicated that this bearish bunch could be in for a change of heart, as the commenting analyst stated that he believes that SIRI could catch XMSR in the next five years.

However, while SIRI's long-term outlook may remain solid, the short-term still has some hurdles to overcome. It is for this reason that the security's Schaeffer's Equity Scorecard rating arrives at a middle-of-the road 5.0 out of 10.0.

Sirius Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) (http://quote.fool.com/uberdata.asp?symbols=SIRI) -- Bulls may feel that Sirius can double easily because the stock is trading in the single digits. Bears may feel that Sirius is doomed to meander, at best, because it already commands an $8.7 billion market cap. At the risk of alienating both camps, I would like to point out why both cases are flawed.

Bulls? Yes, Sirius appears low-priced on a per-share basis, but you have to multiply that by the massive 1.3 billion shares outstanding to realize that the market already respects the company. Bears? Consider another satellite provider like DirecTV -- losing money and facing much more competition in the television arena than Sirius will ever have -- commanding a price tag of $21.5 billion.

The reason that I think that Sirius will eventually keep clocking in higher is that I see satellite radio continuing to surge in popularity as it expands its revenue streams. That will be great news for both Sirius and its only licensed competitor, XM Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: XMSR) (http://quote.fool.com/uberdata.asp?symbols=XMSR). It's not just the notoriously celebrated move of Howard Stern to Sirius come January. For the most part, that's already priced into the stock. It's that satellite radio is going to continue to attract the most rabid radio listening fans, and some amazing things can happen when you command a willing audience with disposable income to spare.

Joe,

I actually have a biotech stock that I bought a couple months back that just keeps pushing forward with great news and FDA approvals. Just waiting for marketing deals now.

The company is DEPOMED (DEPO on nasdaq) and they have just gained FDA approval for their new delivery system for diabetes and urinary tract infection medications. The technology allows for the gradual dispersal of medicine in the bloodstream over time eliminating multiple doses of glucose and reducing symptoms.

I am tired, but there is much more to this company. check it out.!

At $4.49 / share and only headed one direction for the end of the summer. NORTH!

I hold a long position in this and will speculate to see capital gains of 80-100% by year end.. This is a great idea and valuable medicine in the marketplace for diabetes sufferers.

From June 20th to Junly 20th

1) DRI 32.5 now 34.20 ++money
2) SIRI 5.94 now 6.78 +money
3) CBH 29.75 now 33.00 +++money

As an update to this I SOLD DRI today and bought MORE MOTOROLA. Loved the earnings report yesterday...only reason we didn't see a bigger jump was because IBM on Monday had great earnings and RAISED the bar to high for Tuesday earnings.

So for the next month I like 1) MOT go to 22.00 2) CBH go to 34.50-35 3) SIRI go to 7.50-7.75

If we can get those gains in the next month I'd be real happy....I'll update during the next month

A Sirius Flaw</HEADLINE>
By <AUTHOR>Tim Beyers (http://www.fool.com/About/staff/TimBeyers/author.htm) (TMF Mile High)</AUTHOR>
<DATE>August 2, 2005</DATE>

<!--startindex--><BODYTEXT>Maybe it really is time to get serious about Sirius (Nasdaq: SIRI) (http://quote.fool.com/uberdata.asp?symbols=SIRI). This morning, the runt of the satellite-radio duopoly posted impressive sales and subscriber gains (http://www.fool.com/News/mft/2005/mft05080207.htm?ref=foolwatch) during its second quarter. Specifically, Sirius booked $52.2 million in revenue, besting Street estimates of $50.1 million, and grew its subscriber base to 1.81 million, up 25% sequentially and 278% year over year.

The improvements allowed Sirius to up its guidance for the third straight quarter. The company now expects to book $225 million in sales for fiscal 2005 -- $10 million better than prior estimates -- and end the year with 3 million subscribers.

No doubt that makes for good copy, especially for the Sirius cheerleaders. But it's worth noting that the gains carried a cost: Sirius' net loss widened to $178 million from $137 million during the year-ago period. That's hardly chump change.

Indeed, widening losses ought to be a cause for concern among investors. After all, Sirius has been burning cash from the beginning; it used another $65 million to fund operations in Q2. While that alone isn't terrible, I find it interesting that the company is going back to the well for more debt financing (http://quotes.fool.com/custom/fool/html-news.asp?guid=%7B050A1779-2306-4F91-8DB7-4D879A6CAF91%7D&currticker=siri&symbols=siri&nx=&bx=) -- $400 million this time. Sirius said in a statement that the proceeds will be used to redeem high-interest debt and for "general corporate purposes." I added the emphasis because a check of the balance sheet shows that roughly $60 million of its debt would be refinanced, if we take the announcement at face value. The rest would be used to help keep the doors open.

Don't get me wrong: I'm actually reasonably high on Sirius. Year-over-year improvement in gross margin alone (a 78% loss last year versus a 38% gain this year) shows the incredible leverage built into the business model. Heck, the extra $40 million Sirius lost year over year gets a whole lot smaller if you strip out the $29 million (over and above the comparable quarter's offerings) the company spent granting equity to third parties and employees. Furthermore, on a common-sized basis, all income statement line items declined as a percentage of revenue.

Yet I'm also painfully aware of the way Mr. Market's hordes react to Sirius. They expect too much, because Sirius is, in my own opinion, waaaaaay overhyped. And therein lies Sirius' fundamental flaw, Fool. Expectations are so sky-high that no amount of good news is enough. Sure, there are other issues, such as its debt and valuation. Even its lame-o insurance policy (http://www.fool.com/news/commentary/2005/commentary05072103.htm) deserves some skewering.

Bottom line: The cost to acquire subscribers is still prohibitive, and that's going to hold down earnings -- at least for a while. So long as that hangs over Sirius' head, no amount of good news will satisfy investors' exalted expectations

Well don't say I didn't tell you all about this one. I am extremely happy with my long position in this. And i still think that the train is still in the station for the time being. The 1 year target est is now $8!!!

WOW what a DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peebs: Nice call on DEPO, too bad I just read this post yesterday. Thought I might comment on a couple of the stocks. Baker had recomended that I buy Sirus about 12 months ago, I wished I would have pulled the trigger on that one. It has done very well since he told me. I can't buy stocks in the restaurant industry. It just seems like they go from being the "in" place to eat to places collecting dust. A friend had recommend a new restaurant stock Ruth Christie but I can't buy it.

I pick stocks more on the line of if it makes sense people will buy there product and if management does their job we both make money. I bought a bunch of CTE about six months ago and it just got FDA approval on a product and it went from $1.75 to $3.80, some profit taking happened and it is in the $3 range now, similar to DEPO I think it has some upside potential.

There was a news program in Minneapolis and they started by saying they don't do shows to promote products but this one seemed news worthy. When VIOXX was pulled from the market at the begining of the year people with arthrithus were looking for alternatives. An over the counter product called Celadrin (which can be in a cream or pill form ) was showing great success. They had testimonials from a couple people swearing up a down how this product changed their life (you would have thought it was an info commercial). It was probably the most respected 10:00 news channel in Minneapolis. The product works on both the joint and the muscle and is sold at places like Walmart and GNC. The product seems to be sold out all of the time. I tried some on my shoulder which I have bursitis and it feels great. The company that makes it is IAGX. The stock has about doubled in the last 12 months and is in the low $2 range. To me if you have a product the aging US population will buy and it works, it has alot of upside potential.

My last industry which I swear by is the hydrogen cell industry. If you could go back 20-30 years and picked an industry which was going to change the world it would have been the pc market and probably more importantly the software industry. Just think if you got on Microsoft 20 years ago and held it. The hard part would have been predicting who would be the industry leader but you would have made a ton. Hydrogen cell industry is going to be that next new industry to change the world as we know it and it will happen in my lifetime. If you have seen anything on hydrogren cell industry you know it is coming. Basically what is going to happen is your car will have a platform that uses hydrogen to power it. The exhaust is water!!! The arab will be able to eat their sand!! It is predicted that when you drive your car into the garage, you will "plug your house into your car". The platform will power your house. GM is showing it in its ads right now for buying cars at the employee price. The prototypes work and it is very cool. The next step is getting it to the market. These cells are being used in limited capacity on variuos other things like batteries for laptops power tools and generators. It is going to take over the world and there are more applications for this than velcro (velcro by the way was invented by a farmer in Kansas who came up with the idea from cockburrs on his sock and Playtex bought the patent and gave it back to him after a year because they didn't think they wasn't going to be much use for the product!!). I am hoping one of the stocks I buy will become the industry standard or the next Microsoft. QTWW makes equipment to dispense the hydrogen. The gas pump of hydrogen you could say. They have government contracts to develop this system and the Army is using this system to "refuel" some military equipment using the technology in the field. Alot of technology we have today was paid for by the military and then enters the public sector. It is a sock to check out.

The other one in the industry I choose was PLUG. When California was having their electrical problems a few years ago, the govenor Arnold was touting this company as having a way to help California, I also like the companies they are doing joint ventures with because they are well run (I think off the top of my head it is big players like Honda and GE but don't quote me on that). Both of these hydrogen cell companies have gat alot more attention with oil prices going up. Long term I think it will be good for this technology when the Bush?Cheney administration is no longer in office, they know the family bread is buttered by the oil industry and they aren't going to do much to help foster this industry. Its day will come and you heard it from Northern Star first!!

Great write up Northern,

I will definately check out all three stocks..

Anything in energy and catered towards an anging North American Population will be huge in the coming years.

Try and get some DEPO in the mid 5's to 5.75 range.. it will still make you a bundle in the long run.. I am so positive that this company will have such a chokehold on the diabetic industry that their new pill technology will revolutionize how medicine is given to patients. Not to mention they have a bout 3-4 viable products in their pipeline already. www.depomedinc.com (http://www.depomedinc.com) is where you want to find out more.

I wouldn't count on that. A lot of SIRIs upside is already priced into it, even at 6 and change. Plus any smart investor is going to be cautious of this stock when it posts NEGATIVE .625 earnings per share. Thats not good, and SIRI is asking for more money in loans. XM right now is the better play, although more expensive. Its more stable and is established. Not to say that SIRI won't be good in the future, especially if it does merge with XM, but for right now don't go selling the farm expecting it to run up to 10 bucks a share by December.

I bought MOT at 19.42, and sold it yesterday at 22.38, which was a nice little gain for me in a short term play. Granted, I still really like Motorola long term and still think its undervalued, but with the market set to be more bearish for the rest of 2005 a lot of market driven stocks will see a pull back.

I took all the money I made from MOT and invested it in STV, Sterling Construction. It is a great short term play pre-Rita, it has a lot of contracts with the state of Texas for heavy construction, ie. highways, roads, sewers, etc. Rita is gonna rip the Houston/Galvaston area a new one, and STV will be right there to rebuild. I also like that it is a bit diversified, since it works with wholesale distribution as well. This stock has sold off lately down to the 23 range, where I nabbed it yesterday. I think it can run to 30-35, so we'll see.

Budi...I hear you on the pullback of many stocks...I still LOVE Motorola long term and I continue to hold about 75% of my intial buy which was around 19.12. As for SIRI, your points are valid, but I also see this stock as a big, big winner down the line. By that I mean this is a stock that I think is one to hold and not look at everyday...its a long term stock, BUT I also like the potential for a nice run-up by mid-december to potentialy hit 9-10..that's why I've listed it here. As for CBH...bad earnings report last Q, but the company is an animal, they continue to rake in new customers at an unprecendented rate. They are taking over NJ, NY and have now bought around 75 bank branches in South Fla. I've been watching them for over 10 years. They have the right idea as far as personal banking goes and I think they can translate that into a winner on Wall Street. I have done some homework on your recco. I like the company and think your statements will hold true. I will add some to my portfolio today, right before close.

Thank you

Yeah I definitely see where you are coming from. As I said, I do like it long term, but I just find it really hard for the stock to move a good 4 bucks a share by the end of the year. As far as STV, I hope you got in early in the day, because it ran up over 6% today. They have been getting contracts like crazy, and should be poised to get quite a few more in the coming months as the deep south tries to recover. I'm just glad I'm up already 10% with it!

If anybody wants a good restaurant to check out, look up GCFB, Granite City Food and Brewery. I own a ton of shares personally, and quite a few through my investment group. They have been opening up restaurants by the dozens it seems, and this stock will swing over to a profit VERY soon. I got it about 4 bucks a share, right now its at 5.50, but still a good value. Seriously, this could be another Brinker International. They have great food, a nice catchy product (Hand crafted beers), and very good management.

Great re-entry point ladies and gents for DEPO.

Was as high as 6.85 2 weeks ago.

The big rush came when ....

(Nasdaq:DEPO (http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/q?s=depo&d=t) - News (http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/q/h?s=depo)) announced today that Carl Pelzel has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer. Mr. Pelzel, a proven biotechnology and pharmaceutical executive, joined Depomed earlier this year with over 28 years of experience in discovery, development and global commercialization of pharmaceutical products. "We are fortunate to have someone of Carl's talent and experience to assist with our transition into a commercial entity," said John W. Fara, Ph.D., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Depomed. "Carl has already assumed leadership of the company's operations to support sales and marketing. He will now work to enhance Depomed's commercial opportunities by rapidly developing products that have high market value. I will continue to build shareholder value through the acquisition and development of new products and technologies that will ensure Depomed is positioned for continued success in the future."

Don't miss out everyone, even you Northern.

Their Pipeline is STRONG with tons of FDA apporvals on the hoizon and with already 2 approved by the FDA.

Glumetza will be the biggest thing to hit the diabetes market since insulin was discovered.

Multi-dose delivery in one pill is the way of the future, and they have developed the technology to do it.

This one is headed for high teens in the not so distant future.

Good night all.
