View Full Version : Capping MLB 2007 #101a Ov/Un plus Las Vegas Q&A

morning all, this will be my year long thread and will also include the final CBB games info as well as root user notifications.
The objective of this thread is as follows:
My first post of the day will include have the date and day in the title, so that you will only need to go back a few posts to see anything new for the day
Any Rx members are welcome to post info in this thread. I will also use it as my Las Vegas daily blog as well. Feel free to ask any questions you might have regarding capping MLB, or any other sport as well. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll sure find someone that does. As I’ve lived in Vegas for many years, please feel free to ask any questions regarding your travel plans to the city and I try to get you as much advance information as possible.
This is NOT a “I give out my picks thread”. You have a enough dumb fucks already doing that, so follow one of them. Here we will be collecting key MLB data that will be used to make MLB betting decisions.
To make this job easier, we already have over 30 Rx cappers that have agreed to help in gathering stats and data, and will also be helping in putting this information together. Last year we created a excel spreadsheet that has no equal when it comes to ov/un analysis. Only those that contribute to the thread will receive the spreadsheets.
Contributions come in many sizes and forms. Quality posts and information posted in the thread is #1. From supply key links were the group can get additional data or some piece of little know info eg. The starting pitcher spend the night in the drunk tank etc
Right now I believe I have more than enough people that have agreed to help with this years MLB data and program. But like anything else many will fall by the side of the road or will have changed their mind once they have seen the amount of work involved. So with that in mind, if you have not already agreed to help and would like to be part of this years program just let me know.
I’m still in the process of finishing up this years program, so I’ll use this thread this week to get that process finished
Please let my MLB thread from last year die, as I do not plan to post anything in that thread or even read it. Same goes for my cbb thread, it’s DOA as well

the boy's are back in town:
below are the basic requirement need to receive the MLB packages for this year in terms of time and computer resources need to be able to do the job effectively.
your email system can handle 1 mb of attachments. plus you will need pkunzip or any program that can unzip compressed files as i send out the master programs in zip format at least twice per week and the daily updates are very small.
each person will receives the mlb packages will be required to do 14 days of pdws (pitcher data work sheet for the games the next day, which should not take you more than 15 min per night to do these updates)
much of this info is just straight drag and will take less than 30 seconds per row for day and date etc, and much will be data mined as well. it's just a few key areas that need to be checked etc. a copy of this years pdws is posted below
also i'll only be using office 2007 for this years spreadsheets, so you will nee a program that able to use those excel files. also no hunt and peck guys with 286 puters, these programs are very large and you really should know how to use excel pivot tables to use the programs effectively

more there than you will ever imagine. it's only limited by your ability to think up questions to ask
new this year were going to add a few new items that may become useful later in the year
game time temp and humidity
1st 5 innings runs
2nd 4 innings runs
not much of this will be of value when we start out but could lead to some good ov/un info as the year goes on.
geppi, what would be the easiest way to get you a list of the peple i have so far on mlb distribution. i do have a group setup in hotmail, but i'm not sure if it has all the rx handles with the email. guess you could put them in a group email and have them reply back to get the process moving

Pops may want to stress line value as it pertains to chasing a total for those that didn't follow last year, also remember any and all info and it's importance can be determined after it's posted. If you think it's relevant it very well could be of value at the time of post or later on in the year, share the info and let's determine together it's relevance.
also would it be advisable to set up an internet based email account to receive only this info? not sure of the storage size of my email account or how to check how much it will hold, any help from those that know or thoughts?????
yes please that would be perfect. did i send you the mlb stuff yet? let me know and i'll send out last years. I'll also send out last years thread highlights, that have not been finished, maybe you can start on updating those as cbb thread is now DOA

Not sure if this helps anyone but Direct TV has a pretty sweet deal on its MLB package that ends 4/15. Also MLB just gave cable the boot regading this package so I think DTV is the only option here.

for all of those not in las vegas, and will be doing mlb this year, and especially for those that will be helping in the thread, go to the link below to get all the mlb schedules and rotation numbers. this is the order that i use for tracking, and a good way for you to update the daily numbers, and picking up the game number of a series and ump tracking for the rest of the series
keep this post someplace as many will want it throughout the year.
only thing bad is it's in pdf format. if it was digital it would eliminate have of the people that we need to support the data base

also anyone that knows how to use excel and is capable of meeting the requirements that i posted early can start out receiving the mlb 2007 info. from that point on, to continue to receive the updates and spreadsheets will require contribution on help with the collection of data
p.s. heading to the casino in about 30 min for lunch, should be back by 2pm

I'm trying to find a specific statistic that would relate innings pitched per outing for starters. To find this, I need a stats directory that can split out statistical perfomance "As Starter" and then I could break it down from there. A lot of sites will give you databases without splits, a lot of sites will give you splits that can't be converted to databases. Does anyone have a .csv file or something with splits built in or know where I could find one?

Pops your threads are the best fucking things going on the internet information wise.
I see you are adding game time temp and humidity to the data and I wondered if you guys considered tracking the Barometric pressure at game time??
Alot of people i talk to feel that the pressure and air temp have a much greater effect on the ball than humidity.

Should we consider 5 inning bets as a separate gamble with more reliability, making it more simple to maintain data without having to factor in unpredictable bullpen information?
Reducing the variables should increase accuracy.

other that learning VB and writing macro for data mining, this is prob one of the most important things you should know and lear with respect to using excel. it's not all that difficult to even create them, especially with 2007 walk you right thru it. there will be at least 10 pivot tables included in the master which i already feel are important to capping mlb ov/un, but my baseball knowledge is very limited. guys that know both should do very well.

the below spreadsheet is close to being ready to use for week #1. so all those on data tracking should d/l it and ask any questions now. in fact it's already set for the 1st day of games. i'll want a seperate sheet for each day because there will be a little after the game data that still needs to be posted. were working to eliminate a large portion of the inputs as well
right now it only limited to the areas in yellow as required input by the data trackers, and will prob be much less by this coming sunday.
the schedule are already out so most of the data can already be entered and saved for april 1st thru april 7th.
i'm going to draw a name out of my hat for the 1st person in the shitter for week number one. with the number of people we have right no i doubt that you will need to do more than one week of data collection
enjoy, and questions if you have em on filling in the sheet.

i'll be posting shortly the 1st 4 people for data tracking. the process is very simple. you dont do it as the schedule is posted, your off the distribution list. you are excused if you die, other than that none. geppi will also email out the schedule for april to those involved and you will get a short tutor on filling in the blanks and what and when they are required. with the schedules posted as they are (already gave out the link) no reason that for that week you can do all of them ahead of time. starting pitchers and umps are the few items you wont know until the 1st game of the schedule. but all of you have already read my thread notes from last year so you all should know where that data come from and how to find it etc.
i'll post the winning tickets in a few min

into to pivot tables link below. a bunch of pivot tables will already be included with the spreadsheet like last year, but each time i put another pivot table in, it almost doubles the side of the spreadsheet. plus a bunch of you will come up with new ideas for differnet tables as well which use the info that available. if we are capturing the data, a pivot table can be run against it for what if's

Damn, Leisure. Just hope that's not where you were conceived. There goes the memory.
Pops once the people that are on the list do their job on a nightly basis then the sheet is emailed out correct for following day? And is it at this time that the user will be using the pivot tables and the other attachments to ask the spreadsheet the questions that it needs to determine what he/she choses to do?
off and running in the NBA....all this talk of BB is making me dizzy

Yes, 2.5 but am not confident yet to play 'em. The records says 70%, but only gone back to March 10th. Want to track 'em for a couple more weeks to see if the pattern holds. I tried a little on the two on Sunday and they both flopped.

The ESPN website MLB stats page has a filter that lets you do splits "as starter." Don't know about a .csv file though. I once pasted a whole seasons worth of data from the espn stats into excel. Not as big of a pain in the ass as it sounds like.

the below spreadsheet is close to being ready to use for week #1. so all those on data tracking should d/l it and ask any questions now. in fact it's already set for the 1st day of games. i'll want a seperate sheet for each day because there will be a little after the game data that still needs to be posted. were working to eliminate a large portion of the inputs as well
right now it only limited to the areas in yellow as required input by the data trackers, and will prob be much less by this coming sunday.
the schedule are already out so most of the data can already be entered and saved for april 1st thru april 7th.
i'm going to draw a name out of my hat for the 1st person in the shitter for week number one. with the number of people we have right no i doubt that you will need to do more than one week of data collection
enjoy, and questions if you have em on filling in the sheet.
Check out column Z-it refers to column O and U but that combines visiting all starts ERA with home Avg ERA. seems like it should either be O and V or N and U to be consistent. ? Thinking back to the CBB sheets it seems like M and T combination makes sense if youre trying to project a total.
