Rankings are assuming your league has these categories for QBs:

7 points per TD (rush, pass, rec)
-3 points per INT
-3 points per fumble
1 point per 25 yards passing
1 point per 15 yards rushing

that's some weird scoring you use.

How so? I've been playing in a ton of leagues for alot of years now and that is what I'd say about 80% of them have used. It's the standard I hear of more than any others... What do you use?

Good stuff Jake. Look forward to more of your rankings and appreciate the time and effort.
I have a draft next Wednesday and will use your stuff to supplement the other info I have compiled.

Gotcha. I've played that way before as well. It doesn't make much of a difference in the way the guys are ranked as it's fairly similar.

I'm surprised no one has questioned my ranking of Jon Kitna.

I have a rebuttal ready and everything haha.

One more note... just because I have Kitna ranked that high doesn't mean he should be drafted the 3rd QB. I don't recommend YOU taking another guy over him at a higher spot, but I'd let some other guys get the bigger named QBs out of the way before you make a value pick with Kitna. Just because I have a guy ranked higher than most doesn't mean I'd take him in the 1st round or anything.

Figured I'd add that on.

Thanks man. I will have RBs up tomorrow and WRs the next day. If everything goes as planned, all the rankings should be up by the time your draft goes. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask em. I love talking about this stuff.

One other thing while I'm at it... TDs and Yards include rushing stats as well in the projections. I just clumped rushing and passing together.

yup this is standard from leagues i've been in. though i have been in a 4pt passing TD league. and 6 pt all other TDs.

Never seen 7 pts per TD.

Kitna is everyone in the worlds super secret sleeper steal of the draft guy. He's keeps moving up the ESPN avg draft position rankings and its only gonna go higher as the season approaches. He'll be the 1st guy gone after Peyton, Brady, Palmer, Brees, Bulger and McNabb.

Never seen 7 pts per TD.Same here. My draft isn't for another 2 weeks, so I need to brush up on the points as we (informal league but 4 years in running) keep adjusting points every year. We originally had 6 pt for passing TD, but changed it to 4pt passing TD. I think one new rule this year is no more 1 point for 40 yard run/pass TD's, which sucks. If I had bothered to vote, I'd have been in the minority.

Great forum, jakethompson, I'll definitely stop by from time to time!

Rams should run more this year, and that offensive line has some issues.

What issues do the Rams have on their o-line? It's pretty much the same group as last year. They have solid tackles...Orlando Pace is still arguablly one of the 5 best in the league. Last year i know one of the guards was a rookie, or maybe 1st time starter...he should get better with experience under his belt.

Are there injuries i don't know about?

I don't think they are a bottom-of-the-barrel offensive line but Pace isn't getting any young and I'm weary of how well the interior 3 are going to do. McCollum may be on his way out, Romberg doesn't impress me, and Incognito is at a new spot. The tackles will be good, but the 3 in the middle leave alot of questions to be answered.

I have him for alot of INTs (big surprise) but the fact of the matter is the Giants let him toss it around quite a bit and if they can find a suitable replacement for Petigout, Eli should have okay time again. Their line is better suited at run-blocking but the Giants use the run to set up the pass pretty well most of the time. I don't think he'll be a great NFL QB because of the bad passes, but for fantasy I can see him racking up stats.

Maybe you studied the O-lines, I haven't. But I disagree with this reasoning. You're bumping down Bulger because of his line, yet boosting up John Kitna who has a much worse O-line? Orlando Pace might be old, but he's still better than Detroit's best tackle, Jeff Backus (and the only guy I happen to know on that line).

The Rams have a 100 times better running game which defenses will have to respect and can't just drop back into some type or zone coverage or something, which is more than likely to happen to the Lions who don't have Kevin Jones for who knows how long. Not to mention KJ was probably Kitna's favorite guy to throw to after Roy Williams.

Bulger is just lucky for his receivers... i dont think that bulger is that accurate anymore. I would put him NEAR Kitna if it wasn't for his crew around him (not just WR's).

Kitna is a gamble... he could TURN OUT to be good, but can you seriously say top 3 this early with no actual proof or even a HINT of whats to come? To me it's like saying:

Marvin Harrison
Chad Johnson
Calvin Johson
Reggie Wayne
Steve Smith

which one doesn't fit? I think you can tell! :) It's just too big of a gamble (even if it does payoff you still cant deny that you were going on a limb).

Care to explain this more? Because your statement makes no sense to me.

Bulger completed 63% of his passes last year. Down from 66% the previous 2 years, but its not a huge drop off. On top of it he played 16 games, the most he's played in any season at STL. He threw for more TDs and less INTs than any other year of his career and was a clear top 5 QB.

Jake's knock on Bulger about his line doesn't add up since he has Kitna with a worse line ranked ahead of him. Your knock about him not being accurate anymore seems to have been pulled out of your ass for discussions sake.

Legit knocks on Bulger:
1) Injury hitory
2) STL possibly making an even bigger commitment to the run
3) WRs. Holt is over 30. Bruce is in the twilight of his career. Losing Kevin Curtis in free agency.

I definitely see what you are saying about offensive lines, but I firmly believe that Martz' system will produce bigtime numbers even without a dominant line. It might not win a ton of ballgames because that style typically tires out the defense from quick scores, but on the offensive side of the ball I don't think the Detroit line is going to cause many problems.

The Rams' offensive line is still decent (I'd put them roughly middle of the pack) but with the offense they are running (which will be even more evident this year), I just don't see Bulger passing that much and having less time when he attempts it. Their coach is a run-first type guy and I'd be really surprised if they don't move toward that more in year 2. I expect their offense to move closer to a style like Pitt or Jacksonville where the running holes are there but the QB is asked to do less.

"so why do you have Kitna at #3 george" >:)

Year two of a proven offensive system that puts up huge numbers
The team knows the offense much better
Kitna has Calvin Johnson to pass to
The defenses in that division are weak at coverage
Kitna put up pretty large numbers last year with an inexperienced offense
Roy Williams is a proven stud
Furrey is one of the best #3s in the game stat-wise
IMO, Johnson, Williams, and Furrey are every bit as good as Holt, Bruce, and Hakim

Brees, McNabb, Bulger & Palmer are all better options than Kitna, IMO. If I'm not mistaken Kitna lead the league in INTs last season.

Very true, but he also did excellent in TDs and yardage. The team had little time to learn a complicated offense and Detroit had WR problems for much of the year. Martz throws in some crazy blocking assignments at times and the line wasn't exactly experienced. Year two should be a big improvement.

Well about the only proof I have is the stats from year 2 of this offense Martz runs now. I am confident that Kitna will be a definite top 5 fantasy QB this year. Getting him in a trade before the season started is a great move since he is still relatively undervalued.

On a side note, Kitna said his goal is 50 TDs this year. He was kinda joking, but leading the league in TD passes is not out of the question.

I would trade my left nut hair for Kitna... jk... i probably would, maybe. I'm sure he wont BLOW BALLS and be like oh... David Carr. But I can't buy into taking him yet without seen less INTS. IF he leads in TDs... you gotta wonder how his INTS will be doing. If anything--I'm giving credit to Calvin for catching the balls and snatching them from defenders than to Kitna for "threading the pass"

to each his own. I'm glad ur passionate about him... he's value for sure... but i wouldn't trade anyone "good" for him. maybe just someone who is decent or a bench player.

Top 10 QBs

1.Peyton Manning- He easily the most effective quarterback in the NFL from a fantasy perspective. The Colts have done nothing to disrupt their offense this off-season (besides loose "wets himself" Rhodes), so Manning will return with the same supporting cast. Expect another controlled, mistake limited year from Manning.

2.Tom Brady- The addition of Donte Stallworth, Kelly Washington, and Wes Welker has greatly increased Brady’s overall value. Last year he put up solid fantasy numbers with limited help from his receiving core. This year he may make a move back to his 2005 form where he led the league in passing yardage.

3.Carson Palmer- The only thing Palmer has to worry about is losing half his team to suspensions when the new NFL discipline policy comes into effect. He has one of the most talented receiving cores in the league, and with the questions about his knee long behind him he should have a strong showing in ’07.

4.Drew Brees- The question: Can the ‘06 quarterback sleeper have a repeat performance in ’07? The loss of Joe Horn should not effect Brees much since the two did not seem to have much of a connection last season. Brees’ success this season will largely hinge on whether Reggie Bush and Marques Colston can avoid the sophomore slump. If so Brees could have another huge season.

5.Marc Bulger- His numbers began to sag at the end of last season due to the loss of Orlando Pace. Bulger does have his best two targets, Jackson and Holt, returning. These players along with the addition of TE Randy McMichael into a system he has already played in could make the Rams just as dangerous as they were at the start of ’06. Look for St.Louis to go after a young receiver in the draft.

6.Matt Hasselbeck- Reports say Hasselbeck should be throwing again by June. As long as he comes back healthy he will be returning to a favorable situation. Seattle is bringing their entire receiving core back next year including Branch and D-Jax. This along with a healthy Shaun Alexander could give the Seahawks the most potent offense in the NFC.

7.Tony Romo- He was the mid-season Cinderella story in the NFL. Romo is accurate, confident, and has one of the best starting wide receiver tandems in the league. The best thing going for him is his strong relationship with T.O. As long as these two can stay in synch they will both be fantasy producers. If he falls out of favor he may slide down the list.

8.Delhome- Steve Smith. That is the only thing that has to be said to make Delhome a top ten QB. Combine that with Keyshawn Johnson, DeAngelo Williams, and improved O-Line play late in the season and he is a lock for a top spot. If the Panthers go after TE Greg Olson in the first round of the draft as many forecast it could be a tough offense to compete with on Sundays.

9.Matt Lienart- Taking the starting job halfway through the ’06 season he looked less than consistant. Many of the problems the young quarterback faced had to do with the O-Line and a lack of running game. However, a fantasy drafter can’t look past the presence of Anquan Boldin, Larry Fitzgerald, and Bryant Johnson on the roster. If the Cards can address the O-Line in the draft Lienart may have a break out season as long as he can minimize the mistakes.

10.Vince Young- Last seasons Offensive Rookie of the Year had a few shakeups on his team this off-season. Travis Henry, gone. Drew Bennett, gone. Soon the Titans best defensive and special teams player Pacman Jones will be gone when Goodell “makes it rain” suspensions. The team has a lot of skill position needs to address in the draft. Luckily this is a wide receiver rich draft class, so if they can bring in the right players they could be setting the franchise up for a long productive offensive future
