The edit time period is kept brief because a long say 15 minute edit allow posters to have to to change picks if a game score changed during that time.

The white back ground is an option but I doubt if it will happen anytime soon. People get used to a look of a site and it is tricky to change it much.

Yeah don't ever change the color.

Change isn't always good.
