Game: Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers Oct 31 2008 10:35PM
Prediction: over
Reason: Both team's opened the season by playing under the total but tonight they'll be involved in a high-scoring game. Denver has a very good offensive club with Iverson, Anthony and Martin in their starting 5 and expect all 3 to have a better game vs. a Clippers team that gave up 117 points in their opener. The Clippers led by Baron Davis now will score points tonight vs. a Nuggets team that isn't very good defensively. The team's have played over the total in 2 of their last 3 meetings. Play the over.

A lousy schedule to start the season for a young Sacramento team. In less than a year they've lost Mike Bibby and Ron Artest. The Kings started at Minnesota on Wednesday and didn't play any defense, allowing over 48% shooting in a 98-96 loss. And talk about a slow-footed frontcourt with Mikki Moore and Spencer Hawes. Center Brad Miller is serving a five-game suspension for violating the league's drug program and won't play here. Miami limps home after a loss at the Knicks, 120-115. This is a talented offensive team with Dwayne Wade, Shawn Marion, Udonis Haslem and rookie Mike Beasley. This is the home opener for the Heat while the visitors are a long way from home. Play Miami!

The Spurs opened on a down note losing at home to Phoenix. Opening night was even worse for Portland. The Blazers got clubbed by the Lakers and lost Greg Oden for at least a couple weeks in the process. San Antonio has absolutely owned this series, winning each of the last dozen meetings. The Spurs are vulnerable right now with Ginobili sidelined. But they still enjoy a matchup advantage against the Blazers, and it's rather obvious that Portland has not yet figured out a way to beat this opponent. With the number where it is, I have to side with San Antonio to get the money tonight.

Analysis:
The Portland Trailblazers landed into an absolutely terrible spot to start the 2008-09 season - playing on the road against what looks like the best team in the Western Conference by a mile (Los Angeles Lakers).
Portland fell way behind in that contest and was never in it - plus they lost rookie Greg Oden to injury, which simply added to the team's frustration. Let's not forget that the Blazers were a tremendous home team last year and didn't skip a beat without their 2007 top pick missing the entire year.
Which NBA team may resemble the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL this year.....you guessed it - the San Antonio Spurs. They look far from their dominant selves against Phoenix - allowing over 100 points at home. Last year - they were 0-4 ATS in this situation......plus....now they are a smallish road favorite against a Western Conference team.
The Spurs were a terrible 1-13 ATS when playing on the road against the West with the spread falling betweek +3 and -3.
Take the home dog as they re-establish themselves as a major player in the NBA.

double-dime bet707 ORL -6.0 (-110) BetUS vs 708 MEM
Analysis:
The Orlando Magic are incredible ATS when coming off a home loss, especially when heading out on the highway.
Orlando managed to hit just four three-point field goals in its loss to Atlanta just two days ago - ending a streak of 82 games with at least five field goals made from behind the arc.
That's a troublesome scenario for a Memphis team that shot 0-for-13 from beyond the arc in its opener against Houston.
When Memphis loses as an underdog - they also fail miserably ATS....Expect the Magic to bounce back in a big way tonight, as the middle will not be open for the Memphis Grizzlies due to the presence of center Dwight Howard.

SPORTS ADVISORS
Golden State (0-1, 1-0 ATS) at Toronto (1-0 SU and ATS)
The Raptors opened the season with an impressive 95-84 upset victory over the Sixers on Wednesday, cashing as a five-point road underdog. Chris Bosh (27 points, 11 rebounds) led four Toronto players in double figures against Philadelphia.
The Warriors got 27 points from newcomer Corey Maggette and 26 from Stephen Jackson in Wednesday’s opener against the Hornets, but it wasn’t enough as Golden State fell 108-103, but covered as a seven-point home underdog. The Warriors have lost three in a row and seven of 10 dating to last year (2-8 ATS).
Golden State is on a 5-1 SU and ATS run against the Raptors, including a 106-100 win as a 6½-point underdog in their lone trip to Canada last year. The host is 6-2 ATS in the last eight series clashes, all as a favorite, and the SU winner has covered the spread in each of the last 10 head-to-head battles.
Despite Wednesday’s upset win, Toronto is still just 10-22 ATS in its last 33 games overall. The Raptors are on additional ATS slide of 0-6 against the Western Conference, 2-8 versus the Pacific Division, 1-7 after a SU win, 1-9 on Fridays and 5-17 when playing on one day of rest. Meanwhile, going back to last season, the Warriors are 1-4 ATS in their last five on the highway and 8-21 ATS in their last 29 when playing on one day of rest. On the bright side, Golden State is on positive pointspread runs of 6-2 on Fridays and 5-1 against the East.
The Warriors are in the midst of “over” streaks of 4-0 overall, 12-3-1 against the Eastern Conference and 5-1-1 on Fridays, but the under is 7-2 in their last nine on the road and 8-2-1 in their last 11 against the Atlantic Division. Also, the under is 4-0 in Toronto’s last four overall and 5-0-1 in its last six at the Air Canada Centre.
ATS ADVANTAGE: GOLDEN STATE
Chicago (1-0 SU and ATS) at Boston (1-0, 0-1 ATS)
The Bulls head to Beantown to take on the defending NBA champs on the heels of Tuesday’s 108-95 season-opening rout of the Bucks, cashing as a six-point home favorite. Chicago, which has won and covered three in a row dating to the end of last season, spread the wealth around in the win over Milwaukee with six players scoring in double figures. That included rookie point guard Derrick Rose, who had 11 points, nine assists and four rebounds in his debut.
Boston raised its 17th championship banner to the rafters Tuesday, then needed to rally from a seven-point halftime deficit to top Cleveland 90-85. Paul Pierce (27 points) was one of five players to score in double digits for the Celtics, who failed to cover as a 6½-point home chalk, ending a 7-0 ATS run going back to last year’s Eastern Conference finals.
The Celtics swept a four-game season series from Chicago last year, winning all four games by double digits, with the average margin of victory being 18.3 points per game. Not only did Boston easily cover the number in all four contests, but it is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings. Prior to last year, Chicago had been on a 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS tear against the Celtics.
The SU winner is 10-0 ATS in the Bulls’ last 10 games overall and 9-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these teams.
Even though it has cashed in three straight games, Chicago is still in ATS slides of 7-21 against the Atlantic Division, 6-21 after a SU victory, 2-9 after a double-digit victory, 1-6 after a spread cover and 1-5 when playing on two days’ rest. Boston is on ATS runs of 15-6 at home and 6-2 when going on two days’ rest, but Doc Rivers’ club is 3-9 ATS in its last 12 versus the NBA Central.
The under is 6-2 in the Bulls’ last eight games overall, but the over is 13-4-2 in their last 19 on the highway, 10-3 in their last 13 on Friday and 7-2 in their last nine against the Atlantic Division. For the Celtics, the under is on runs of 4-1 against the Eastern Conference and 4-1 versus the Central Division. The under is also 6-2 in the last eight Boston-Chicago matchups, but four of the last five meetings in Boston have hurdled the total.
ATS ADVANTAGE: BOSTON
San Antonio (0-1 SU and ATS) at Portland (0-1 SU and ATS)
The Spurs came up short in Wednesday’s season opener against the Suns, falling 103-98 as a 1½-point home favorite despite 32 points each from superstars Tony Parker and Tim Duncan. San Antonio has dropped three in a row and five of its last six going back to last spring’s Western Conference Finals series against the Lakers. However, Gregg Popovich’s squad is still 12-4 (9-7 ATS) in its last 16 regular-season contests.
Portland not only got humiliated in its opener – a 96-76 loss at the Lakers as an eight-point underdog – but it lost center Greg Oden to a foot injury early in the game. Oden, who didn’t score in 13 minutes in his NBA debut, is expected to miss at least two to four weeks. The Blazers shot a dismal 34.5 percent from the field against Los Angeles, while allowing the Lakers to make 46.8 percent of their attempts.
The Spurs enter tonight’s contest on a 12-game winning streak against Portland, and they’re 20-9 ATS in the last 29 battles. However, the Blazers went 2-1 ATS in last year’s three meetings, and the teams have alternated spread-covers in the last six head-to-head clashes. Finally, the host is on a 5-1 ATS roll in this rivalry.
San Antonio failed to cover in 10 of its final 13 road games last season (playoffs included) while also going 3-7 ATS in its last 10 against the Northwest Division. On the other hand, the Blazers are on positive pointspread streaks of 5-2 overall, 4-0 at home and 4-1 after a SU defeat.
The Spurs’ game against Phoenix on Wednesday easily eclipsed the posted total, ending a nine-game “under” streak going back to last year’s playoffs. The under is still on runs for San Antonio of 5-0 on the road, 6-1 on Fridays and 4-1 against the Northwest. Also, Portland sports under streaks of 4-1 overall, 12-4 on Fridays, 37-14 against Western Conference foes and 44-21-1 versus Southwest Division opponents.

Boston is 42-15 UNDER vs. a team that scored 100 or more points in their last game and they are 7-3 UNDER off an ATS loss. The Celtics are 4-1 UNDER vs. NBA Central teams and they are 6-2 UNDER their last 8 meetings with the Bulls. Chicago is 4-0 UNDER off a straight up win and they are 4-0 UNDER after allowing 100 or more points in their last game. Sacramento Kings vs. Miami Heat (NBA)
Oct 31, 2008 7:35 PM EDT
Play: Miami Heat
Miami Heat -5.5
Sac continues its tough 4-game road trip to start the season tonight in Miami and I like the Heat come up with a big win at home. Miami has absolutely owned the Kings, going 10-1 SU and ATS at home over the last 11 meetings. Overall, the Heat have won 16 of the last 22 and are 18-4 ATS in those contests. The Kings are way undermanned right now with Brad Miller serving a 5-game suspension. Sac is 7-24 ATS in road games off a cover where they lost the game straight up as an underdog since 1996. Miami is 23-8 ATS in a home game where the total is between 200 and 204.5 points since 1996. Miami has too much fire power for the Kings tonight. Lay the points.

double-dime bet704 PHI / 703 NYK Under 217.5 Bookmaker
Analysis:
Knicks-76ers Under 217.5
Analysis: The total is jacked up too high as a reaction to the Knicks' 120-115 opening night win versus Miami. The Heat, though, play no defense.
The 76ers do play defense. They were seventh last year defensively, holding foes to 96.2 points per game. Samuel Dalembert is one of the league's better shot-blocking and rebounding centers.
Look for the 76ers to put out a much defensive effort, especially with their perimeter defense, after losing at home in their opener to the Raptors, 95-84. Toronto made 10-of-16 shots from past the arch.
The Knicks are an up-tempo team under new coach Mike D'Antoni. But they are going to experience some bumpy roads learning this new system.

double-dime bet707 ORL -6.5 (-110) Bookmaker vs 708 MEM
Analysis:
Magic -6.5
Analysis: Look for the Magic to play very hard and effective in this matchup following their worst season-opening loss in franchise history at home to Atlanta.
The Magic had trouble with the athleticism of the Hawks. The Grizzlies don't have nearly that kind of athleticism or talent. They are a lunch pail type team and not a very good one.
Until shooting a miserable four-of-25 from 3-point range against Atlanta, the Magic had made at least five 3-pointers in 82 straight games. They should be able to get their perimeter game working against a slow Memphis club with a weak-scoring front line of Marc Gasol and Darko Milcic, both of whom will have their hands full with Dwight Howard.
The Magic should be very fired-up for this matchup. They were 27-14 on the road last season, tying for the second-most road victories

dime bet708 MEM / 707 ORL Over 190.0 Bodog
Analysis:
Both teams disappointed in the first game, especially Orlando who lost 85-99 at home against Atlanta. On the other side, Memphis only scored 71 points against the Rockets and one of the consequences of both bad performances is the totals line for this game: 190 points.
This line is clearly underrated, taking in account that both teams like to spread the floor and this will be a natural "run and gun" game, we can't only judge last games' performances, and the oddmakers looked too much for the first game of both teams.
Orlando struggled in the opener, only 85 points (13 and 15 in single quarters) and they scored only 4-25 3pts! We all know that this team is a jump shooting team and they struggled badly in the first game:
Van Gundy said: "The last good minute of the night was when they introduced the (former Magic players) from 20 years ago. And we played with the same amount of energy that those guys have."
"We didn't have a single guy who played well at both ends of the floor. And several guys were abysmal at both ends," he said.
In fact, eight minutes into the game, Orlando had already missed 11 of 14 shots and turned the ball over four times. And by the time the season was 10 minutes old, the Magic were already down 23-8 and hearing boos from the expectant crowd at Amway Arena.
Naturally this team will bounce back today, last season when they lost a game they went 26-8 ATS in the next game (12-4 away games) and I expect a better performance of Van Gundy's players.
Memphis lost 71-82 in Houston and they struggled against a hard and aggressive Rockets defense, we all know that this team is a jump shooting team and when they go 0-13 3pts in a game we can't expect a great outcome by them. Rudy Gay 9-22 FG and Mayo 5-20 FG struggled but the good news is that they won't face Ron Artest this time and the Magic haven't a powerful defense like Houston have.
Last season Orlando scored 123 and 112 points against the Grizzlies and it won't be difficult for team to repeat those numbers, Memphis didn't change their style of playing, they are still a run and gun team and Orlando will take advantage from this.
Last season Orlando went 6-2 Over in road games when the line was bellow 193 points and tonight facing a team who like to run and doesn't have good defense, the 190 points is too low for a typical run and gun game. Take the over in here.

Golden State at TORONTO (-8)
By Karl Garrett, Featured Handicapper
G-Man on an overall comp play run of 69-53-4.
Tonight I am eating the chalk with the Toronto Raptors, as Toronto plays their home opener fresh off a Wednesday night outright double-digit win at Philadelphia.
The Raptors looked strong to the G-Man in that one, I expect them to look strong again tonight against a Golden State team that is going to miss Baron Davis running the show.
The Warriors did stay inside of the number in a home loss to New Orleans on Wednesday, but now they must make the cross-country trek into the Great White North, and I don't think it is going to be a successful one.
The Raptors will look to avenge a season series sweep by Golden State last season, and it is all systems go if you ask the G-Man.
Toronto the call minus the number in their home opener!
2♦ TORONTO
New York at PHILADELPHIA (-7')
By Michael Cannon, Featured Handicapper
I’m 9-4 with my last 13 overall free plays.
Take the 76ers as the home chalk tonight over the Knicks.
New York looked good in new coach Mike D’Antoni’s debut on Wednesday, knocking off the Heat 120-115.
But the Heat are pitiful, and the 76ers are a team that has the potential to make some noise this year in the East.
The addition of Elton Brand will only help to solidify this team on the post and Philly should be able to carve up the Knicks in the paint, both offensively and on the boards.
I expect Philadelphia to bounce back from its pitiful shooting performance in their season-opening 95-84 loss at home to the Raptors. The 76ers only shot 34.5 percent from the field, but Toronto is a much better defensive team than New York is.
Lay the points as the 76ers grab the home win and cover.

New York (+8') at PHILADELPHIA

Outright NBA winner on Houston last night!
Tonight we are not calling for an outright, but we are calling for the underdog Knicks to stay close to the 76ers in the City of Brotherly Love.
New York pushed the tempo on Wednesday under new coach Mike D'Antoni, and they were rewarded with a 120-115 win over Miami in a game that wasn't as close as the final score - the Knicks leading by double-digits pretty much all the way.
Philadelphia broke out of the gate a little slow, as they have been written about in all the preseason publications as one of the teams in the East that is expected to be there come playoff time, but the Sixers dropped a 95-84 decision to the Raptors on their home hardwood Wednesday.
We expect Philly to have better success tonight, as they are stepping down in competition, but with the "new look" Knicks pushing the ball under D'Antoni, we will not be surprised at all to see New York keep this one closer than expected.
Play on the Knicks plus the points.
4♦ NEW YORK
San Antonio at PORTLAND (+1')
By Bobby Maxwell, Featured Handicapper
We hit our FREE play winner Thursday as New Orleans went to Phoenix and got the outright victory. Today we've got another comp winner coming on the Blazers as they host the Spurs.
Both these teams opened the season with losses with the Blazers coming up short in Los Angeles against the Lakers and the Spurs falling at home to the Suns on Wednesday. Now San Antonio travels to Portland and we think the home crowd will have the team ready to go and they'll beat the Spurs tonight.
San Antonio is without Manu Ginobili until at least December and it will make them an average team at best. They got 32 points from both Tony Parker and Tim Duncan against the Suns Wednesday but basically nothing from anybody else. The other three starters totaled just 10 points.
Portland has got a good young nucleus in Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Travis Outlaw and we know Greg Oden is out but they played all last season without him and they'll come out strong in the home opener.
San Antonio finished last year just 3-10 ATS in its last 13 road games and without Ginobili, it won't be easy anywhere they visit. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six matchups between these two squard.
Let's look at Portland to come out strong, get the up-tempo game going and cash our ticket tonight against the Spurs.
2♦ PORTLAND
San Antonio (-2) at PORTLAND
By Chris Jordan, Featured Handicapper
We're on a 9-4 run with complimentary selections, including five of six since Sunday and tonight we're taking the Spurs up in Portland, as the Blazers are back to playing sans Greg Oden.
The Spurs lost outright on their own floor two nights back to Phoenix, so avenging a loss is certainly on the agenda today. And even though the home team is 5-1 against the number the last six times these two have danced, San Antonio is on a 20-9 run overall in this series.
And forget about the point spread for a minute ... it's irrelevant in this game - the Spurs have beaten the Blazers 12 straight times and 19 of the last 20 meetings.
San Antonio swept the season series, 3-0, last season, including a 72-65 win in Portland, where the Blazer were held to a season low in points.
Take the Spurs in this one.

Denver at LA CLIPPERS (+2)
By Drew Gordon, Featured Handicapper
Easy Free Play winner with the Hornets outright over the Suns 108-95, part of my 2-0 Sweep (incl. Freebie) across the board Thursday! More winners this NBA Friday...
I freely admit the Nuggets are a better team than the Clippers - when and only when - they have Carmelo Anthony in the lineup. However, with Carmelo still sitting out suspended, this game becomes a hell of a lot more winnable for the Clippers.
First of all, after getting embarassed by the rival Lakers 117-79 Wednesday, I fully expect the Clips to bounce back strongly tonight. They'll not only be highly motivated, but the absence of 'Melo also makes for a much more favorable match up at the small forward position with Thornton going against Kleiza.
Second, don't make the mistake of fading a team like the Clippers too early in the season. Did they struggle against a powerhouse Lakers team? Yes, but there's things you can count on tonight: A. The Nuggets defense, especially on the road, will be terrible. And B. Baron Davis and Chris Kaman are going to play much better than they did Wednesday (much better match ups), which is the key for this Clippers team.
Bottom line, Denver's "strong" defensive effort at Utah doesn't fool me, this is the same group of lackadasical defenders that got crushed in road game after road game last season (and now without Camby). Look for the Clippers and especially Davis to bounce back strong tonight at home, as they grab the cash with ease late Friday!
Take the LA Clippers plus the points over Denver in this NBA match up.

Dallas/Chicago Under 5 1/2 +1.04 (3 Unit Play)-It appears that the Stars will turn back to Marty Turco for tonight's contest after Tobias Stephan turned in a great performance on Wednesday against the Wild. Turco has struggled this year so far but I look for him to get back to the form that we are used to soon and should start this evening. The Black Hawks will likely start Khabibulin in net this evening and he has been very good at home so far this year stopping 91 out of 97 shots for a 93.8% save percentage. These two clubs have matched up 20 times since 1996 in Chicago and the Under has cashed 14 out of 20 times and in fact over the past three seasons the Under has cashed in four out of four times. I am getting plus money on this total and I will gladly buy and recommend playing this game Under tonight.
Anaheim -1.57 (1.5 Unit Play)
Anaheim -1 1/2 Goals +1.73 (1.5 Unit Play)-For those of you that followed me during baseball season you know that my handicapping style is to never lay more than -1.30 and if you feel that you have to to split the bet up between the money line and the run line and my approach in hockey is no different. I am not a fan of laying 1 1/2 goals in hockey as many games land on one but that is what I am recommending in this game tonight. Vancouver is off of a 4-0 win last night against Los Angeles but have not been performing very well defensively so far as last night was the first time in 9 games that they went Under the total. Anaheim meanwhile has turned their season around winning five straight games but they have still only been winning by a goal lately and I feel they are primed for a big performance against the Canucks this evening. Anaheim dropped three out of four contests to Vancouver last year and I am sure they will remember that and I look for a three goal victory from them this evening.

Analysis:
*** NBA 3* GAME of the WEEK ***
(BUY the 1/2 to -7...if you are able to get 7.5 now...I will adjust the Posted Number if the Concensus moves to 7.5 like it appears many may still do, looking at CRIS, PINNY, & GREEK)
For starters, this is a situation that I would usually be Buying the 1/2 Point and taking it down to -7...But because I have been made aware that the Outfits have a "Buy Order" which may be going out on the Sixers some time this afternoon...I fear that the books may be forced to adjust, which would make taking it to -7 difficult for the majority of my players...But with that said, for those who are able to get 7.5 and see this play early...I highly recommend going ahead and laying the 10cents because it is definately around what I consider to be a "Key" NBA number...
The other night, we opened up the Season with a 4* GOM on the Knicks...and it was a spot where I felt "public perception" was allowing us to get the best of the number...Well, that very same "public perception" is giving us that very same opportunity Tonight...
The Knicks were flying high for their home opener which is why they were able to get out to such a big lead early on...But now they have to take it on the road, and are facing a Sixers team who came out extremely flat in their Opener, and will definately be looking to jump all over the Knicks...
The Sixers are not only the kind of team who will be able to handle D'Antonio's style of ball which he has brought to NY...but more importantly, their obvious edge defensively should be the difference maker...
I made this number 10.5, and my projected final shows the Sixers should be able to get out ahead, and stay there while making an ez night of it...and eventually getting the Home-Win in blow-out fashion...Fortunately for us, the oddsmakers have sent this one out at single digits, so the blow-out won't even be neccessary for us to get the cover...
So let's go ahead and back the Sixers, as they look to even their record to 1-1 against a team in their division...and lay the points as our NBA 3* GAME OF THE WEEK...VR

Derrick Rose and the Bulls get a shot at the defending NBA Champions tonight. After an impressive win over the Bucks in their opener, they will face a Celtics team that will be more of a challenge. Boston was down 7 points at halftime against Cleveland on Tuesday night, but finished strong, holding the Cavaliers to 35 second half points before finally pulling away in a 90-85 win. Let's not forget that Derrick Rose is still a star in the making, and at this time last season he was a soon to be Freshman Sensation for the Memphis Tigers. He had 11 points, 9 assists, and four turnovers in his NBA debut on Tuesday, that resulted in a Bulls win. The Bulls turned the ball over 18 times against an average Bucks team, and things may get ugly against possibly the best defensive team in the NBA in the Celtics. Milwaukee as a team shot 47% from the field against the Bulls and their small front court, so the Celtics and their all star cast should reach that number or better. Both teams have changed since last season, but an interesting stat to think about is that the Celtics won all 4 games last season by an average of 18 points a game. Look for the Celtics to prove to the Bulls and the world why they are the Defending NBA Champions. Welcome to your first NBA road game Derrick Rose! Too bad it has to be against the Celtics.
Take the Boston Celtics -10 for 2-Units.
Thanks and Good Luck

San Antonio (-1 1/2) over PORTLAND
San Antonio applies to a 70-28-3 ATS early season indicator while Portland applies to a negative 11-45-1 ATS indicator. Normally, I'd be playing the Spurs here, but the linesmakers have underestimated the absence of San Antonio's Manu Ginobili. San Antonio has been just an average team in games that Ginobili has missed in recent years and I'd favor Portland by a point in this game. While the situation is strongly in San Antonio's favor, the line appears to be off and I'll resist making the Spurs a Best Bet. I'll just lean with San Antonio at -2 or less.

I beg to differ....his 20* NFL plays are very solid! Would not fade those, but pretty much everything else is a fade. He's pretty awful at basketball and was very bad at baseball which is why he passed the entire season. Usually when he gives two plays...he'll go 1-1.

http://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gifhttp://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gif Golden State (+7) over TORONTO
31-Oct-08 04:05 PM Pacific Time
Toronto opened the season with a seemingly impressive win at Philadelphia as a 5 point dog, but that victory was the result of variance in 3-point shooting, as the Raptors made 10 of 16 from long range while Philly only knocked down 5 of 20 from beyond the arc. Had each player made his career percentage on 3-pointers then Toronto would have lost by 4 points, which is exactly what my ratings had predicted for that game. Golden State, meanwhile, played pretty well in a 5 point loss as a 7 point dog against New Orleans in their opener and the Warriors apply to a very strong 40-8-3 ATS subset of a 70-28-3 ATS early season angle. Toronto, meanwhile, applies to a negative 29-73-4 ATS home favorite letdown situation that is based on their upset win. The Warriors aren’t going to be quite as good this year, as the net of losing Baron Davis and Monta Ellis (injured) and adding Corey Maggette is about -2 ½ points. However, the Warriors still look like an average NBA team and they still have their emotionial leading inStephen Jackson, who usually gets his team fired up after a loss. The Warriors are 62-64-2 ATS in all games with Jackson playing, but they are better after a loss (30-21 ATS) than they are after a win (30-43-2 ATS) thanks to Jackson’s personality. Golden State is 29-9 straight up when rested after a loss with Jackson and 18-7 ATS in those games when not favored by more than 6 points. My ratings favor Toronto by 7 ½ points, so the line is fair, and I’ll take Golden State in a 2-Star Best Bet at +7 points or more and for 3-Stars at +8 or more.
2-Stars at +7 or more, 3-Stars at +8.

31-Oct-08 04:05 PM Pacific Time
The 76ers are coming off an opening night upset loss to Toronto, but random 3-point shooting variance was the reason for that outcome (see the Golden State-Toronto analysis) and Philadelphia applies to a very strong 52-6-1 ATS early season indicator in addition to a 35-3 ATS subset of a 156-86-2 ATS all season situation. My ratings favor Philadelphia by 8 ½ points, so the line is fair, and I’ll take Philadelphia in a 4-Star Best Bet at -8 points or less, for 3-Stars at -8 ½ or -9 points, and for 2-Stars at -9 ½ or -10 points.
4-Stars at -8 or less, 3-Stars at -8 1/2 or -9 and 2-Stars at -9 1/2 or -10.
3 Star Selection
http://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gifhttp://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gifhttp://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gif Orlando (-7 ½) over MEMPHIS
31-Oct-08 05:05 PM Pacific Time
Orlando made a living last season by beating up on bad teams and I expect that trend to continue tonight, as the Magic rebound from their opening game loss to Atlanta. The Magic were 26-8 ATS last season after a loss and coach Stan Van Gundy’s teams are 70-44-2 ATS after a loss in his coaching career. Van Gundy also makes a habit of beating the teams that he’s supposed to beat, as his teams are 48-15-4 ATS as a favorite or pick against a team with a win percentage of less than .444, including 17-6-1 ATS last season with the Magic. In addition to the Van Gundy coaching trends, the Magic apply to a very strong 52-6-1 ATS early season indicator while Memphis applies to a negative 11-45-1 ATS early season indicator. My ratings favor Orlando by 7 points, so the line is fair, and I’ll take Orlando in a 4-Star Best Bet at -7 points or less, for 3-Stars at -7 ½ or -8 points and for 2-Stars at -8 ½ points.
3-Stars at -8 or less, 4-Stars at -7 or less, 2-Stars at -8 1/2.
3 Star Selection
http://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gifhttp://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gifhttp://www.drbobsports.com/gif/ministar.gif Denver (-2) over L.A. CLIPPERS
31-Oct-08 07:35 PM Pacific Time
The Clippers have Baron Davis and little else to work with and they appear to be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference again this season. Denver isn’t likely to be as good as they were last season, but the suspension of the grossly overrated Carmelo Anthony gives us some line value. The Nuggets played about 2 ½ points better per 48 minutes with Anthony on the bench than they did when he was in the game last season and that’s a pattern that has existed since he entered the league. Anthony is an above average offensive player, but the Nuggets’ defense is 5 points per 100 possessions worse when he’s on the floor than when he’s not. Denver nearly beat the Jazz in Utah without Anthony in their opener and they should be a bad Clippers team tonight given that they apply to a 70-28-3 ATS early season indicator. My ratings favor Denver by 2 ½ points in this game and I’ll take Denver in a 3-Star Best Bet at -2 points or less and for 2-Stars at -2 ½ or -3 points.
3-Stars at -2 or less, 2-Stars at -2 1/2 or -3.
