Sad news. I always thought he was eventually going to turn into a solid #3 starter in the majors.

Major league pitcher Joe Kennedy died early Friday morning while at home with his family in Florida, agent Damon Lapa confirmed to ESPN.com.

The cause of Kennedy's death could not immediately be determined, Lapa said.

Kennedy, 28, compiled a 43-61 record in seven major league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays.

ESPN.com said that agent Damon Lapa confirmed Kennedy's death. Lapa told the website that the cause of death could not immediately be determined.
The Denver Post reported that, according to Lapa, Kennedy was visiting his wife's family in the Tampa area. He got up in the middle of the night and collapsed.

Man that is tragic, to just drop to the floor and die at the age of 28. Had to be some sort of vascular stroke.

RIP - a much to young Joe Kennedy.

Was thinking the same thing. I'm 40 and have been working like a dog for years now. I'm working on a plan to simplify my life and spend more quality time with my family.

I guess we can all go at any time.

Very sad news.

On Jim Rome's show today, Jay Mohr was guest hosting. When the news hit the wire, Mohr announced that Kennedy died, quoted Kennedy's career W/L record, and then said he died of mediocrity. Didn't find that funny at all

Did he really say that? That's the most tasteless thing I've ever heard. If mediocrity could actually cause death, WTF is Jay Mohr still doing alive?

Did he really say that?

If so, Jay Mohr is a terrible human being.

If Mohr said that on the air he should be pulled from the air permanently.
Worse than anything Imus or any shock jock has said that I remember. The man just died. Jay should know mediocrity as he has tried(in vain) to reach it as an actor and host.

I canr believe Mohr would say that. THat shit needs to make national news & ESPN, etc and his ass should be well....something.

Anyways, ESPN just said Kennedy & his wife had a 1 -year old son too.

So tragic.

doubt that....

After going to bed early, Kennedy woke up at about 1:15 a.m. Friday and collapsed as he was leaving a bedroom at the home of his wife's parents
"We were terribly shocked," Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey told The Associated Press. "From what we understand he was in Brandon ... to be the best man at a wedding today."
