Derrick Norris.
If this guy doesnt wind up in his garage at 4am with a car running and a hose in the closed window or in his basement with a luger in his mouth I will be shocked.
Somewhere Johnny Bench is shaking his head and Yadier Molina is laughing behind his crack pipe at what a PISS POOR excuse this bearded ass clown was to the profession of catching.
Congratulations KC you didnt win, Derrick Norris LOST this game all on his own!

You couldn't be more wrong.

Lowrie was a joke at SS, his lack of range cost them at least a couple runs. But the biggest reason was Bob Melvin.

- Leaves Lester in too long in the 8th.
- Doesn't hit Dunn for Lowrie in the 9th. Its not like Lowrie was playing Gold Glove defense.
- 12th inning, after getting the lead, he leaves Otero in to face the lefty Hosmer. A team that has platooned all year long, and you don't bring in your lefty specialist?? Abad has been great all year. Otero misses location, and Hosmer hammers it. A chopper ties it. So after the lead is blown, he brings in Abad for one batter. It takes him all of ONE pitch to retire him. And he takes him out?? Don't you think a lefty holds runners on better than a RH?? Dropped pitch out, single and ball game.

If Abad comes in to face Hosmer, he probably gets him and the next batter. Game over and the A's advance.

One of the toughest losses I've experienced in my 45 years as an A's fan. This one is squarely on Melvin.

I think I know how you feel. The A's this year have reminded me alot of my Atlanta Braves in past seasons..

How about yost having a short leash with shields and going with a ROOKIE STARTING RHP vs Moss. With Finnigan sitting there. Then leaves him in there way too long. Smh

What about Billy Bean? Does he get a free pass? He traded away the heart of the lineup in Cespedes who has his.whole career ahead of him for Lester who was brought in to win exactly these type of games in the postseason. He had a decent outing (Lester did) but it wasn't shutdown baseball by any stretch of the imagination.

I completely agree with you. I had A's OVER 2.5 and A's ML. What a brutal loss, and this is one of those pushes that pissed me off. Don't see why he left Otero in there after getting the 1st man out. Abad has been killin it all season. You have to use your TEAM as a whole when you are in a 1 game playoff. Melvin had on his DUMBASS cap on last night. I'm sorry for the A's loss man.....I can't imagine my team losing like this...and blowing 3 separate leads. Don't think I've ever seen anything like it in my lifetime.

The reason why the A's where in this one game playoff is because they suck. I lost so much on chaulk chasing them to this point, I made it all back last night. I was sweating, but I knew deep deep down that I was on the right side....and I was.

Beane has done more with less than any other GM in baseball.

I've had enough of the Cespedes hysteria. That trade wasn't the reason they played poorly down the stretch. They had numerous injuries, which for a team that mixes and matches lineups wasn't a good thing. Crisp, Jaso, Lowrie, Gentry, Vogt, etc..all missed significant time. Gomes was in LF last night, and you saw what happened. Would have been nice to have Gentry out there, but who knows??

The pitching staff was wearing down. Chavez was done, Millone wasn't the answer, Kazmir was coming back down to earth after a great 1st half. Gray in his first full year and scuffled a bit. Beane knew that he needed to bolster the staff, and thats what he did.

The assorted injuries played a huge factor in the second half hitting struggles. Heart of the lineup, chemistry, I've heard it all. Did we miss his production?? Of course we did, but ONE GUY doesn't cause all that. It was the myriad injuries that played a far bigger role. Even if the play 500 ball with all of the stuff that happened, they aren't winning the division.

Lester and Samardzija pitched as advertised during the season. Lester deserved better last night, his stat line wasn't anywhere close to how he pitched. Crappy defense and relievers allowing his runners to score made it look worse. Up until the 8th inning he set down 12 consecutive. That's what top pitchers do with a lead. Melvin gave him too long of a leash, and it cost them.

If Melvin manages the game properly, the A's are in the ALDS. And then we get to see if that staff can carry them in a short series, just as Beane had it set up.

This wasn't Beane's fault at all. Not the trade, not last night's game, none of it. This franchise is irrelevant if it weren't for him.

As for this comment, its below classless.

Norris has been playing thru a lot of pain the past 2 months. Its why they got Soto as insurance, there were days the guy could hardly walk. Is he below average throwing out runners?? Yes. Do the pitchers help him out by keeping runners honest?? Not really.

You compare him to 2 of the greatest catchers in history. Bearded ass clown?? He's a major league catcher, and has had several big hits for this team.

The only clown here is you.

I admit I don't know the details of the A's franchise as much as a fan (you). I was merely asking a question. Does BB share the blame at least in part? I agree that he does sooo much with what little he's given. He's the primary reason the ballclub is relevant. The owner is a cheapskate. My only thought and where I was coming from with that comment is that he has to be twice as smart as other GMs just to compete with the big payroll franchises is that did he outsmart himself with the Cespedes-lester trade? A lot of neutral parties think he gave up too much and didn't address the problem the A's had at the time the trade was made and that was that their hitting was struggling more than their pitching. The Cespedes trade of an everyday co tributor for a 1-day-in-5 player in lester who they probably didn't need seems like a miscalculated move for this year and for the a's going forward.

I have friends who are A's fans and this was not a popular trade with them. That said I hold BB in the highest regard as probably the best GM in baseball right now and over the past decade or so. But sometimes the best make mistakes too. I think he will look at this later in his career and admit to it.

John,

People didn't like the trade because he was popular, and was a physically imposing athlete. We don't get many of those, so losing a stud was difficult. But if you look at his production, it wasn't all world by any measure. I'm not saying he's a bum, but the perception of him by the fans and the reality of his stats is sizable.

The pitching was fading. Millone and Chavez weren't the answers. Kazmir hit a wall, Gray scuffled a bit in his first full season. If you can't limit the other team, getting more offense wouldn't have helped. Also, who was available?? Its easy to say....go get hitting. Easier said than done. He went shopping for middle infielders but couldn't find the right deal.

Beane had it all set up. A 5 game series with the best rotation in the playoffs. They scored 8 runs. That was without Cespedes. That should have been enough to win.
