The regular-season success the Oakland Athletics have enjoyed since Billy Beane took over as the organization's general manager in 1997 has not translated well to the playoffs.
After a 9-8 loss in 12 innings to the Kansas City Royals in Tuesday's American League wild-card game, the A's fell to 0-7 in winner-take-all contests under Beane's watch.
The A's have been to the postseason eight times since Beane became the general manager, but have never made it past the American League Championship Series.

Oakland has won 90-plus games in eight seasons since 2000, but has been eliminated by both the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers twice, while the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox and Royals have each knocked the Athletics out once in sudden-death contests.

just plain bad luck

Wouldn't be surprised if he has a ton of success in the playoffs in next few years since these things tend to balance out
