How is this extreme. Stay off the damn field, and if alcohol was involved, then learn to handle your alcohol better. Good decision

Punishment does fit the crime, he didnt get thrown out of school, just got his scholarship taken away.

Seems overboard but it could be a good deterrent later on....but then again most drunk people won't think about it. I think they probably could have found a more appropriate alternative such as community service

What happens to the kid who runs out on the field who isn't getting a scholarship? Does he have to pay a $100,000 (or more) fine?

That's College.......if you are out with your friends at Fenway and (although it is completely wrong), you decide to run out to centerfield, should you have to pay a Quarter Million dollar fine? It is a professional sport after all, not just college.
