Watched the movie on Netflix last night, haven't seen it in a few years. A few absurd things.....

1. How Matt Damon calls what every single guy is holding in the Judges office just by watching the cards and their eyes. I don't mean he just knew someone had a big hand and another was bluffing. He literally knew exactly what each was holding somehow....

2. In the two pivotal hands of the movie (in the first scene and the very last), any poker player in the world would have lost it all on the first hand with a full house and won it all on the last hand after flopping the nuts heads up. It has nothing to do with Matt Damons character being an amazing poker player on those hands.

Like I said great movie and a classic, but those two things are comical

i disagree on the 1st hand, when kgb leads out for 15k after the river, i think the correct play is to just call, if you raise you are only getting called when your beat (getting trapped which he was) and he is gonna fold to your reraise if he did have the flush like damon said (i dont think you have the spades) remember on that hand they both checked the turn, causing kgb to lead out for 15k on the river. he was up ~15k going into the hand so if he just calls he is back to even instead of getting stacked.

The only thing ridiculous is your interpretation of what is ridiculous.

The dumbest thing that I saw is Mikey Boy turning down Famke Janssen when she comes
by to collect that loot.

My pet peeve with the movie is when they get the shit beat out of them by the Staties and 90 seconds later they are walking and arguing like nothing happened. Been a long time since I got my ass beat, but the recovery time is much longer if I remember correctly.

I was thinking the same thing.

Especially when they show them getting beat by at least 25 cops at once but all they have is a bloody nose after

That chick is hot in that movie, damn.

I love the flick... it does have dumb things and some clichés but I give it an 8 out of 10.

That is literally exactly what I said.

It's in the thread title for god sakes.

I love the movie but it has some dumb shit in it.

You just agreed with me by attempting to insult me. lol

So according to your logic we can't agree on a movie review?

What I said it was dumb as fuck was your logic to analyze the steps of deep thinking involved in the hand at the opening scene. Not your opinion on the movie.

I love the flick what you want me to say I don't just because you do? Just because you are full of shit doesn't mean everybody else is.

In the opening scene, KGB acted like he had the best possible hand from what was on the board... but he didn't.... There was another hand that could have beaten his, odds were slim that he would have lost, but he laid it down and got up like it was unbeatable.

Well I guess they could spend 10 minutes of worm and Mike rolling around on the ground saying ouch and rubbing their chins but Worm had to get the
hell out of dodge.

They werent trying to maim the guys, just teach them a lesson and get money back.

I think he's just saying they would have been much more beat up physically after that

what do people think KGB has in the last hand of the movie where he gets stacked? he does tell mike "go away this one not good for you" so he has to have a set of 10's NO? the board was 6710 and mikey held the 89 the board rolled out super dry so 89 was the only hand that could be kgb in that spot...its basically a replica of the 1st hand except for the quad 9s that could have beat kgb

and since i cant edit, they had to film (and i think it was the correct way) the movie the way they did it in the opening scene. it would have been far too ridiculous for mikey have the nut boat and lose to quad 9's, it was portrayed be a serious movie and it could have never been taken serious if that would have been the opening scene, they did it just right boat over boat....kgb knew he wasnt getting beat by quad 9s in that spot

Remember when they were watching the Jonny Chan/Eric Seidel WSOP replay where Chan won.

The ending hand was played out just like that, With Mike making a come-out bet after flopping the nuts, then LGB betting, Then checking and betting, then KGB going all-in and Mike calling.

I think KGB just had a top pair, as they were pretty much following that WSOP event. So KGB had 10's maybe? At best 10/A for 2 pair (Why KGB said "The Ace could not have helped you"), which made him go all-in with top 2 pair.

OR

They were going back to the opening scene, where he held AA, and took Mike out with those, and was feeling confident, he was going to take him down yet again, and overbetting the pot by going all in, making it seem like he was bluffing, to lure Mike in.
