WINNIPEG -½ +113 over Calgary

Regulation only. The Flames are not pushovers. They have an outstanding group of veterans, role players and youngsters. They come to play every night and they don’t stop working. Calgary is high on our radar as one of the most undervalued teams in the NHL. They didn’t get the credit they deserved last year when they lost 49 goals by one game and were a tough out almost every game and they’re still not getting enough credit this year. That said, this is such a difficult spot for them. The Flames opened the year at home on October 8 and have not been home since. They will now play their final game of a six-game trip that has taken them through Edmonton, St. Louis, Nashville, Chicago and Columbus. This now becomes Calgary’s sixth road game in 10 days and that’s a tough trip for even the best of clubs.

Winnipeg opened the year with three straight road games before returning to the MTS Center on Friday to play the Predators. This is Winnipeg’s second home game of the year and just their fifth game overall. They lost its home opener on Friday, 2-0 but they looked damn good in doing so. The Jets ran into a very hot Pekka Rinne and a very good Predators squad. The Jets are 1-3 but they had to play games in Los Angeles and San Jose and they did not get outplayed in either. Mark Scheifele may turn out to be the next star in this league because he’s that good. He’s always the most noticeable player whenever he’s on the ice and he’s certainly not the Jets only threat. Winnipeg has a sound defense with Zach Bogosian, Tobias Enstrom, Jacob Trouba, Mark Stuart, Adam Pardy and Paul Postma. The Jets have scored just one goal over their past three games but it’s not because of a lack of chances, as they have had plenty and they are just not getting the breaks. Winnipeg is playing good hockey but it has not shown up in the W column yet. Lastly, the MTS Center is without question one of the most energizing buildings in the league for the home side. A rare visit from another Western Canadian club is sure to get this building rocking tonight and we like these underrated Jets to respond in a big way.
