What a great investment an African American studies program turns out to be:

Academic fraud that allegedly went on for years within a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill department frequented by athletes was carried out largely by two administrators, but thrived amid lax oversight and silence, according to a report released on Wednesday.
The report from former federal prosecutor Kenneth Wainstein, who was hired by the university, examined how students—many of them top-tier athletes—were able to take no-show courses in the school’s African and Afro-American studies department, earning passing grades and helping to ensure their academic eligibility to compete.
...
For instance, the report said that many of the counselors in a university department that provides academic counseling to athletes knew about the situation to varying degrees and often steered players to the courses. Some nicknamed classes within the program as “GPA boosters.” Others allegedly complained to Crowder that courses for athletes were too demanding. More than 3,000 students were enrolled in paper-only courses, according to the report.
...
At one point, men’s basketball coach Roy Williams became concerned about the African and Afro-American studies department and began steering players away from the program, Wainstein said. But academic counselors to the football team at one point held a meeting with football coaches in which they touted the benefits of the program, he said.

This is much, much worse than anything that took place at the U and I'm curious what the NCAA will ultimately do about it.

This problem started way before a lot of these people got to UNC. It starts in HS where athletes are given a pass to the next grade, and then allowed to graduate. As the person who blew the whistle on NC said, "many of them could not even write a complete sentence, let alone a full paper". No way they should ever be allowed to enroll. Just read an email from Adrian Peterson and you'll see what I mean. Borderline illiterate, but boy can he run!!

The teachers know everyone is cheating - they make up grades - and it's been going on forever - African studies is kinda a tip off too

the NCAA's has already said it's "outside their jurisdiction". You see, it's fraud and they don't oversee fraud, plus UNC did pass their APR don'tchaknow. You know, that document every school prepares and submits to the NCAA? I wonder why more schools don't have APR violations? But I digress

In response to this, and because they take academics very seriously, they can increase the punishment levied against schools for failing to meet that standard (if you're stupid enough to admit to didn't attain APR standards, you deserve whatever those assholes do to you). Then they can convict and punish UConn again for the third time for the same thing, most of the country will be happy and it takes some heat off of UNC.

win win win

How is this outside the NCAA's jurisdiction? Isn't this the reason the NCAA exists, to ensure that institutions are adhering to the standards for eligibility?

This is beyond "lack of institutional control" and I would support UNC getting the death penalty for 5 years for this.

I concur, but they said something akin to it's a legal matter or something along those lines. It was a very lame excuse, why do you think UNC hasn't been punished already? They admitted to academic fraud some time, yet no action and no talk of action.

Seriously, it was something about their meeting APR standards. Look what they've done to UConn, punished twice for the same APR score, something they failed because two kids quit school and transferred. Hard to overcome when your roster is so small. Then look what they did to Penn St, for something that really had nothing to do with players or football, talk about something being a "legal matter".

The NCAA is just another bureaucracy, a worthless POS

I don't think you're in good enough shape to murder anyone. You remind me of the kinda guy that puts mayo on his diabetic meds before taking them.

Alright guys, today is the start of my quest for 180, putting on my old shirts, and being able to go to mexico again without a shirt! I started the morning off with a good protein shake and some hydroxicuts. Lunch was a tuna sandwich on wheat bread with some carrots. I'll workout after work and dinner will be a 3 egg white, 1 whole egg omelette with cariboo steaks and a protein shake along with a salad. And then tons of water before sleep.

Official weight this morning: 249.4
End Goal: 180
2 Weeks: 243
1 Month: 235
March 23 (Dad's 60 bday in Hawaii) 220
June 28 (San Jose/San Fran) 205
August 15 (AZ to see HS friends) 200
November 23 (Back home to see family) 190
January 17, 2007 (1 Year) 180

Lots of trips that involve minimal amounts of clothing. I will have to get my act together. I will keep you guys posted on my progress and with any problems I may encounter. My biggest goal for the first 2 weeks is to take 2 weeks off of drinking for the first time in 2 years and no Grilled Stuft Steak burritos or Jack in the Box at 2 in the morning!

Thanks for your help guys!
