Very predictable. I wish there was more of an edge to the finale. It just seemed to have a checklist that the writers wanted to have complete before going off the air and they seemed to hit them all to methodically for my liking.

I wonder if they way they ended Nucky's time was planned from season 1 or did they manufacture this within the past year knowing this would be the last season.

not planned, the writers did not know how long the show would be on the air for so they took it year by year. You should watch the series recap on HBOgo, the cast talks about avoiding phone calls from the writer because that call usually meant your character was going to be killed off.

IMO... okay final season. For a final season, I felt they went too far down the road of further character development with Nucky

I just half assed watched the finale. Was the kid that killed Nukie the son of the guy Nukie killed in front of that statue?

Yep,see it was in his LA Times interview.

Did the finale turn out the way you had planned, or were there changes?
We had gone over different versions on how it might end. We were also considering keeping Nucky alive, which in some ways may have been a bigger punishment than killing him. He would have lived out his life in obscurity after giving up everything he had. But the way we chose to end was really the most powerful version of the story for us. We pretty much settled on that a year and a half ago.

the real Nucky lived until 1968 and died in a convalescent home, far less dramatic

killed by Jimmy's son
