FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday that Peyton Manning is the best quarterback he has faced in his 40 years coaching in the NFL.

"I mean, [Manning is] great, he's obviously a great quarterback," Belichick said. "The best quarterback I've coached against."

Belichick's Patriots face Manning's Denver Broncos in a battle of AFC heavyweights at Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

"Not to take anything away from the Montanas, Marinos and Elways or whoever is up there with those guys, but [Manning] is tough," Belichick said.
The New England coach reiterated his comments from Tuesday about Manning having no flaw to exploit on the football field.

"He's good at everything. He's good at everything," Belichick said. "I see no weaknesses in his game."

Belichick has faced Manning 22 times as a head coach or coordinator, sporting a 12-10 lifetime record against the Denver signal-caller. With Tom Brady as his quarterback, Belichick's record against Manning is 10-5 in the regular season and 2-2 in the postseason.

Belichick isn't reading into his past matchups with Manning as ways of gaining an edge on him for Sunday's 23rd meeting between the two.

This is a different Manning-led offense than the Indianapolis Colts offenses with Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne or even last year's Broncos offense with Eric Decker and Knowshon Moreno. This year, Manning continues to have explosive receivers across the offense in wide receivers Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker, and tight end Julius Thomas.

"Each game is its own game," Belichick said. "The offense, I think they have done a good job of utilizing their personnel and what those particular players do well in different systems, [against] different teams. Peyton does a great job of getting the ball to the weakest point of the defense, whatever the defense happens to be."
As Belichick prepares to face the best quarterback he has ever coached against yet again, he said he appreciates the rivalry between Manning and Brady, but he dials it back and focuses on trying to get a win instead of getting caught up in rivalries.

"Right now, my thoughts are on this week," Belichick said. "All the experts can write about this and write about that."

I don't want to get the Pat fans all bent but I was watching Manning the other night and I realized he is the best football player I've ever seen - used to think it was Rice - but I understand Brady, Montana and Manning are all pretty close at QB

He says that Manning is the best he's ever coached "against" so he intentionally omitted Brady - he knows the world considers them neck and neck

Well if the Patriots ever get rid of Brady, and Bill has to coach against him, he will have to change his answer to: Tom Brady "is the best quarterback I've coached against."

after last sunday brady showed why he is better than manning, as good as manning is manning has always been loaded with weapons on offense. brady went 30-35 with 5 td's and his only weapon is a TE who is still trying to get back to 100%. look at what brady has around him this year and look at what manning has around him- D Thomas J Thomas Sanders Welker, brady has gronk. im not shitting on peyton its not his fault he has always been fortunate to be surrounded by great talent. brady has just a TON more with a LOT less over their respective careers.

its almost comical the difference in talent these 2 have had to work with over the years. the 1 year brady had 1 legit serious weapon he threw for 50tds and the team went 19-1

Manning - Harrison, Wayne, garcon, Dallas Clark, dem Thomas, sanders, Julius Thomas, decker.

Brady - moss (end of his career), gronk, branch, brown, patten, Caldwell, Hernandez.

*both players had Welker, collie and Anthony Gonsalez.

I'm sure I'm leaving a lot of players out for each qb. also didnt include RBs , as just like WRs it's not even close.

Look what Brady is already doing with Brandon lafell. Lafell will equal his stats for the last 3 years if he keeps it up. I always thought Lafell was a decent WR and now its showing once he learned the system.

Man Betall was trolling with this post - knew exactly where it was headed - Pat fans go kray kray if anyone suggests anyone is on par or better than Brady

The difference between Manning & Brady is that Peyton has proven he can dominate while playing for more than one team.

Some of you guys will argue that Brady would do the same thing but none of you have a crystal ball and can prove it.

Don't get me wrong I love Tom Brady, but I believe Manning is just a little bit better overall...

Yeah I definitely have legitimate questions if Brady would be successful playing with superior talent in climate controlled conditions 10/16 games a year.

What's really amazing is that Manning has lost 50% of his arm strength since his surgery - he does not have the rifle arm that he had - and yet he is still just as good - Brady still has a gun for an arm even as he has gotten older

Peyton is the smartest qb to play the game, but if I had to win one game, I'd take Brady.

Peyton Manning is by FAR the greatest quarterback to have ever lived. It isn't even remotley debateable. He has redefined the quarterback position.

For being amazingly wrong so much of the time....this is your golden moment and absolutely correct.

You left out that manning has been horrible when it really matters in the playoffs and Brady has been fantastic
