there;s going to be a lot of player movement in free agency,so with some of these it may be a good time to take some flyers with several teams at nice prices

Cubs seem to get a nice price: Their offense should be really good with those young bats coming up. Imo Maddon is one of the better in game managers and his demeanor should be a great fit for that young team.
There rotation is missing a true ace, but their starting rotation starts to remind me a bit of the Orioles: No really big names and true #1 pitcher, but at the same time the guys from 1-5 give you quality starts like 9 out of 10 days. They might even add a stud pitcher to that rotation during winter, they sure as hell have the money and prospects to do so. But even if they don't, i would think of them as a playoff contender if they manage to build a strong bullpen (already liked the backend of their pen at the end of this season).

Mets at 40:1 also seem like a good trading opportunity: They get Harvey back after TJ surgery and if he gets back to his pre-injury form, the rotation is one of the best out there with Harvey, deGrom, Wheeler and Gee/Niese/Colon. Their bullpen, if healthy, also looks pretty good with Mejia, Familia, Parnell, Torres, Black and Edgin.
Big question mark will be the offense, but a healthy Wright, maybe the addition of at least 1 good bat and the progress of young hitters like Arnaud & Flores, might be more than enough to fight at least for a wild card spot with that pitching and their strong defensive play.

You have some good points there Soriano.I pretty much agree with you on the Cubbies and i have always said maddon was one of the best managers to get the best out of his players and a lot of the time they over-succeded because how positive he makes them feel..........maddon is from my area here in PA,and he was widely respected.

The mets im just not so sure of,i like what you had to say about their pitching but the offense is really suspect as you also said.It's going to take a lot for harvey to return to the same form he was preforming at.But if he does then at least the pitching will be there.

Sure, Harvey is a huge question mark and maybe deGrom regresses a bit, too. But at the same time Gee should do better, his overall stats (thanks to some lingering injuries) were below his talent level in my opinion and Colon also can do better than a 4.XX ERA, despite him not getting any younger. Also Syndergaard is supposed to be pretty good, so who knows what they might get out of him, if he can improve his control (big IF though).
So even if Harvey needs some more time, their rotation looks good and he could give them a boost 2-3 months into the season. I think even with their current roster they could possibly play .500 ball and compete for 2nd place in that division.

I don't disagree with you on their offense, it's suspect at best. But they improved late in the season despite Wright (arguably their best hitter) struggling with a bunch of injuries for almost half a season. And despite all those struggles they already played close to .500 ball last season for most of the year and their bullpen early on cost them several wins and late in the season Mejia was hurt.
Imo it will depend a lot on them staying healthy, their pitching core (starters & bullpen) looks REALLY good and (despite Granderson) they field one of the best defensive formations out there, especially when Murphy isn't playing 2nd base. So to me it's similar to Tampa, who relied heavily on their strong starting rotation & defense + a solid pen for years. You could even compare them to this years Royals to a certain degree, not nearly as good in relief as KC, but on paper better starting rotation and a similar outfield headlined by Lagares in CF plus a roster that has grown: They have consistency in their roster and add some key parts without having a huge turnover every year, so chemistry should be fine.

And like CHC, they have the resources (and pieces for a trade thanks to their SP depth) to go out during winter and sign a FA or initiate a trade, if they feel like they found the right guy for their roster.

Soriano did a great job scouting the NL. Off topic here: after Harry Carey commented that Soriano doesn't post much, I went back to the original post to see how many times he had posted since then. Discovered his number of posts are identical throughout the thread as are 5team's and Keyman's. Are your number of posts updated on all your entries each time you submit one? Makes no difference. Just curious.

Yes arniesarmy, it always shows your current number of posts, not the number you had when you made the actual post. Makes sense from a technical point of view because the post count is probably just a number in your entry in the user database, that gets automatically incremented by one once you post and which is loaded from the db & displayed with your username and location in the forum next to your posts, when someone loads a thread.
If you wanted to show the post count someone had, when he made the actual post, you would have to store that number with the actual post, which would waste db space because instead of storing one number per user, you would have to store one number per post...

DeGrom (FA in 2020), Harvey (FA in 2019), Syndergaard (FA in 2021), Matz (FA in 2021), Wheeler (FA in 2020)...they could even keep Niese for another 3 years for about 10mio. per year if they wanted. Familia also is locked up until 2019. Just their pitching alone should make the Mets an annual contender for the next couple of years.
Same should be true for the Cubs, even though they went the opposite way and built primarily around their position players/hitters. Arguably the best IF in the major leagues and almost their whole young lineup, that only should keep improving with experience, is locked up until at least 2020: Rizzo, Bryant, Russell, Castro, Baez, Soler, Schwarber...only Fowler will be a FA and they still have young, highly touted prospects like Alcantara or that new high profile Cuban signing in the waiting...Lester is also under contract for until 2020 with another option...will be interesting to see if they can extend Arrieta, who will be a FA in 2017 iirc. They might also try to sign another big name pitcher like Greinke or Price this summer.
Either way the Cubs should be set to contend for the WS for years to come, too. That lineup is just loaded with young talent and rather cheap talent, so they should have the money available to add more pitching, via FA signings or trades (because their farm system is still pretty good), if they want to go that route.

Really impressed with the job both front offices did in building such a great, young core to build around for years and getting a bit away from their old style of spending big money on big name FAs.
