The drummer of the hard rock group AC/DC, Phil Rudd, has been charged by New Zealand police with attempting to arrange a murder.
Mr Rudd, who was born in Australia, will also face charges of possessing the drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, and of threatening to kill.
The musician's house in Taraunga, on New Zealand's North Island, was raided on Thursday morning.
AC/DC is due to release a new album later this year.
The band's guitarist, Malcolm Young, was recently diagnosed with dementia.

He’s also been charged with possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. During this shocking time, we’ve been waiting for an official statement from AC/DC, and earlier today (Nov. 6), the band addressed the issue.

Questions on Phil Rudd’s involvement with AC/DC came into question after the drummer
chose to skip a recent video shoot for two songs off AC/DC’s upcoming ‘Rock or Bust’ album. Rudd was also absent from the band’s most recent publicity photo (seen above). According to New Zealand outlet The Sun, Rudd was accused of procuring murder between Sept. 25 and 26. According to the Fiddaman Blog, the AC/DC video shoot took place on Oct. 4.

The news of Rudd’s charges and Nov. 6 court appearance broke just hours ago, and it seems like AC/DC found out at the exact same time we did. The group write via
Facebook:
We’ve only become aware of Phil’s arrest as the news was breaking. We have no further comment. Phil’s absence will not affect the release of our new album Rock or Bust and upcoming tour next year.

Rudd’s legal troubles act as another huge blow to AC/DC, who were forced to part ways with guitarist Malcolm Young after the founding member began to suffer from dementia after having a stroke.
Phil Rudd will make his next court appearance on Nov. 27. If convicted of the murder-for-hire charge, Rudd could face up to 10 years in prison. AC/DC’s ‘Rock or Bust’ will see a Dec. 2 release date.

No murder for hire charges....

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — New Zealand prosecutors have done an about-face and dropped a murder-for-hire charge against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd.
A spokeswoman for Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones told the Associated Press on Friday that the charge has been dropped due to issues with the sufficiency of the evidence against Rudd.
Rudd, 60, was charged one day earlier in the Tauranga District Court with attempting to procure murder, which comes with a maximum 10 year prison sentence. He was accused of trying to arrange two killings.
Three lesser charges against Rudd remain. Those include threatening to kill and possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

According to Stuff.co.nz, a New Zealand police charge of "attempting to procure murder" against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been dropped. The 60-year-old rocker, who is on bail and is set to reappear in court at the end of the month, still faces one charge of threatening to kill as well as possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, which his lawyer described as "minor."
Rudd's lawyer, Paul Mabey, said Friday afternoon (November 7) New Zealand time that the Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones withdrew the attempting-to-procure-murder charge after a meeting with Mabey and police.
Mabey said: "I was advised by the Crown Solicitor Hollister-Jones that he had reviewed the police file and the available evidence to support the charge of attempting to procure murder.
"He had formed the view that there was insufficient evidence to justify that charge. He has now withdrawn the charge."
He added: "The charge... should never have been laid. The Crown Solicitor's opinion was not sought. The charge is now withdrawn — within 24 hours of Mr. Rudd's first appearance in court."
He said his client had "suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting of a very serious allegation, which on any basis was never justified.
"The damage to Mr. Rudd is incalculable. Questions arise as to the degree of care taken by those responsible for arresting and charging him with attempting to procure murder."
Mabey said Rudd would defend the threatening to kill charge. He described the drugs possession charges as "minor".
Asked by The New Zealand Herald about the decision to drop the charge, Crown spokeswoman Jan Fulstow said: "It is a matter for the police. The police do not have to come to the Crown to seek permission to lay charges. The police make decisions on charges etc having regard for the evidence that they have.
"Whether or not someone is high profile makes no difference, it is a matter for the police."
Rudd was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly trying to hire a hitman to kill two men. Their names and that of the intended hitman were not released to the media.
The alleged events reportedly took place between September 25 and September 26.
Rudd was facing a maximum of 10 years in jail if convicted of the attempting-to-procure-murder charge. The threatening-to-kill charge has a maximum sentence of seven years.

.</center> On Tuesday AC/DC's Phil Rudd Pleads Guilty To Threatening to Kill, Drug Charges was a top story. Here is the recap: AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd entered a guilty plea to charges of methamphetamine and cannabis possession and one count of threatening to kill in a New Zealand court on Tuesday, according to a local media report.New Zealand media outlet Stuff.co.nz reports that Rudd's attorney Craig Tuck said that he will seek a "discharge without conviction". Sentencing for the veteran drummer is scheduled for June 26th, according to the report.
A second charge of threatening to kill has reportedly been dropped. The drummer was arrested following a police raid on his New Zealand home on November 6th of last year.
He was originally charged with attempting to procure a murder, threatening to kill and possession of the drugs. Authorities quickly dropped the attempt to procure a murder charge.
His arrest came as AC/DC prepared to launch a world tour in support of their "Rock Or Bust" album. They recruited former AC/DC drummer Chris Slade for the tour. -

</figcaption></figure>Longtime AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd has been sentenced to eight months of home detention after pleading guilty to threatening to kill a former employee. Rudd was also charged with possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.
The 61-year-old faced up to seven years in prison on the threatening to kill charge at Tauranga District Court on New Zealand’s North Island. Rudd was arrested last November, after an angry incident related to the handling of an August 2014 launch of his first-ever solo album.

Rudd pleaded guilty in April, admitting that he’d asked an associate to have the victim “taken out” in exchange for cash, vehicles and a home. He also acknowledged directly threatening the victim. A subsequent search of Rudd’s apartment on Nov. 6 then reportedly turned up 0.478 grams of methamphetamine and 91 grams of cannabis, according to multiple published reports.
Rudd complicated matters with a pair of violent incidents which ultimately found the drummer in handcuffs yet again. He was reprimanded in court for breaching the terms of his bail, reportedly by making contact with a witness. Rudd’s lawyer also abruptly withdrew from the case.

Ultimately, as this sordid story has played out, AC/DC was forced to move on. Their well-received new album, Rock or Bust, was released within days of Rudd’s original guilty plea. AC/DC then brought back former drummer Chris Slade to fill in on subsequent tour dates.
