KEY STAT: Torquay have scored in each of their last 13 league matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Torquay have lost five of their last six league games but can turn the tide with a draw at the Hive. Barnet lead the Conference Premier by nine points but may be nursing one or two tired legs after two players – Andy Yiadom and Sam Togwell – were dismissed in Saturday’s 3-1 loss at home to Wycombe in the FA Cup.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: Walsall have lost one of their last seven home games

EXPERT VERDICT: Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough is using the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to hand game time to his fringe players but the policy could backfire with a defeat at the Banks’s Stadium. Injuries restricted Walsall’s progress in the early months of the season but key players have returned in recent weeks and they are unbeaten in their last three games.

EXPERT VERDICT: Hearts are setting a searing pace at the top of the Scottish Championship, banking 32 points from a possible 36, and they can collect another victory from their trip to mid-table Falkirk. The Edinburgh giants have drawn two of their away games but should be too strong for the Bairns, who lost 4-0 at Rangers on Saturday.

EXPERT VERDICT: Croatia have won their opening three games in Group H without conceding a goal and can take a stranglehold on the section by beating Italy in Milan. The Italians also have a 100 per cent record but laboured to wins at home to Azerbaijan (2-1) and away to Malta (1-0) and are a team in transition.

NHL Grand Salami - November

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

Preview: Senators (7-4) at Canucks (11-5)

Date: November 11, 2014 10:00 PM EDT

The Vancouver Canucks have surprised many with their solid start after a disappointing 2013-14 season led to numerous changes.

That doesn't mean first-year coach Willie Desjardins is by any means satisfied.

Vancouver seeks its fourth victory in five games while looking to deal the visiting Ottawa Senators a third straight defeat Tuesday night.

The Canucks (11-5-0) are tied with Tampa Bay for the NHL's most wins after earning six points on a four-game trip that ended Sunday with a 2-1 shootout win at Anaheim.

Nick Bonino, acquired in the offseason trade that sent Ryan Kesler to the Ducks, assisted on Alexandre Burrows' equalizer in the second period before scoring the only goal in the shootout against his former team.

"We were solid," said Bonino, who has a team-high seven goals. "We had a lot of shots and a lot of chances."

Vancouver finished with 35 shots after recording just 19 in each of its previous two, including Saturday's 5-1 loss to Los Angeles. Despite the early success, Desjardins is expecting a lot after the Canucks missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

"They weren't happy with their last two performances and they played hard," said Desjardins, who replaced John Tortorella in the offseason. "The one thing I like is the resiliency. I thought we responded in a tough situation. Are we where we want to be? No. We have to get better, but (Sunday) was a real great start."

The Canucks will play five of their next six at home.

"Just because you're going home doesn't mean it's going to be any easier," Desjardins said. "You've got to be ready."

Ryan Miller has been solid since signing a three-year deal in free agency, and he's likely to be in net after Eddie Lack anchored Sunday's win. Miller won his previous seven starts with a 1.70 goals-against average before falling to the Kings over the weekend.

Craig Anderson also received the day off Sunday as Ottawa fell 5-3 to Toronto, one day after he made 36 saves in a 2-1 shootout loss to Winnipeg. His 1.72 GAA ranks among the best in the league, and he's likely to be back in net for this contest.

The Senators (7-4-3) are looking to bounce back after blowing three one-goal leads against the Maple Leafs.

"In the past couple of games we've been building and have been better, but (Sunday) was a setback," said Kyle Turris, who scored his first goal in 13 games since the season opener. "It something we'll have to work on, improve and move forward."

Ottawa scored first in both defeats on a 2-1-1 homestand, and coach Paul MacLean will be looking for more of a complete effort as it begins a three-game trip.

"I thought as the game went on, their competition level continued to rise and ours lowered," MacLean said. "To me, that ended up being the difference in the game. Over the 60 minutes, they were more competitive than we were on a shift-by-shift basis."

Anderson made 29 saves to beat Lack 4-2 in the last meeting March 2, ending the Senators' six-game losing streak against the Canucks.

Vancouver hopes to have forward Radim Vrbata back for this contest after he sat out Sunday with a nagging leg injury. Vrbata has six goals and seven assists, but he has just one of each over his last six.

NHL roundup: Flyers' Schenn to miss two weeks
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn is out for the next two weeks with an upper-body injury, the team announced Sunday.

Schenn was injured when he was hit into the boards by Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon with less than a minute left in the first period of Saturday's game.

MacKinnon was assessed a five-minute major for boarding.

Schenn has one goal and one assist with a minus-5 rating through 14 games this season.

Also, the Flyers are without defensemen Andrew MacDonald (lower body) and Kimmo Timonen (blood clots). Defenseman Braydon Coburn returned after sustaining a lower-body injury in the season opener.

-- Dallas Stars forward Antoine Roussel has a hearing scheduled with the NHL's Department of Player Safety on Monday morning because of an incident with San Jose Sharks defenseman Justin Braun.

Roussel was assessed a two-minute penalty for roughing and a 10-minute game misconduct at 18:51 of the third period of Saturday's game.

--The Vancouver Canucks recalled forward Brandon DeFazio from the Utica Comets of the AHL.

DeFazio, 26, has four goals and two assists in 13 games with the Comets this season.

--The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled center Trevor Smith from the Toronto Marlies of the AHL. Smith, 29, has two goals, three assists and 12 penalty minutes in eight regular season games with the Marlies this season.

Maple Leafs center Daniel Winnik missed his second game with a neck injury.

---The Anaheim Ducks placed right wing Corey Perry on injured reserve.

Perry is eligible to be activated for the Ducks' game on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kings also recalled defensemen Mat Clark and Shea Theodore from Norfolk of the AHL.

--The Florida Panthers reassigned forward Rocco Grimaldi to San Antonio of the AHL. Grimaldi, 21, made his NHL debut with the Panthers on Nov. 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

--The Buffalo Sabres assigned forward Johan Larsson to the Rochester Americans of the AHL. Larsson has played four games with Buffalo this season.

--Detroit Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk missed his second game with a sore groin, but defenseman Kyle Quincey returned after missing three games with an ankle injury.

--Ottawa Senators defenseman Chris Phillips was back in action after missing two games with what he originally called "muscle tiredness."

Right wing Alex Chiasson missed his second game with a foot injury.

--Chicago Blackhawks left wing Daniel Carcillo (upper body) missed his eighth consecutive game, but he has taken part in skating drills and is on track to return later this month.

The New York Islanders have recently gone on a tear for bettors banking on low totals.

Through Monday, the Under has gone 5-0 in the Isles' last five games. John Tavares' group take on Matt Duchene and the Colorado Avalanche in New York Tuesday.

NBA Preview: Spurs (3-3) at Warriors (5-1)

Date: November 11, 2014 10:30 PM EDT

There's no doubt how close Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich are heading into their first matchup as coaches.

Kerr could be without one of his best players Tuesday night while Popovich has been known to rest some of his stars in the second half of back-to-back games.

Klay Thompson's status is in doubt for the Warriors while the visiting Spurs are seeking to continue their recent success in this series.

Kerr closed his playing career with two stints with the Spurs in the latter stages, earning NBA titles with the club in 1999 and 2003 to give him five overall.

It was during that time that he grew close to Popovich. They will match wits for the first time though it's not altogether clear if some key players will be available.

Thompson sat out Sunday's 107-95 loss at Phoenix because of a sprained right hand. He is seventh in the NBA with 23.8 points per game.

"It's not broken or anything but he tried to warm up and he couldn't get it loose, didn't have anything, any feel for the ball," Kerr said Sunday.

San Antonio (3-3) is back in action after opening this four-game trip with an 89-85 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. Kawhi Leonard had 26 points and 10 boards and Tim Duncan added 18 and 11.

The Spurs finished with a 14-3 run, giving Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker their 500th career victory together. They are second among trios in NBA history to Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish, who won 540 games with the Boston Celtics.

Leonard matched his highest point total in a regular-season game Monday despite playing with one good eye. His vision has been affected by a case of conjunctivitis.

'It's just that my vision isn't 100 percent yet,' Leonard said. 'But I'm just playing games trying to get used to it, and hopefully it will just blow past.'

Now the question is whether Popovich will give his veterans some rest. This is the Spurs' second back-to-back, and the coach rested Duncan and Ginobili in this circumstance in last Thursday's 98-81 defeat at Houston.

The Spurs won't have Tiago Splitter, out with right calf tightness. Marco Belinelli has missed three straight games with a mild groin strain.

Both these teams have been plagued by turnovers. Golden State (5-1) is averaging a league-worst 22.5 per game while San Antonio is eighth-worst at 16.5 after having a season-low eight Monday.

The biggest culprit for the Warriors is Stephen Curry, who leads the league with 27.7 points per game as well as 4.8 turnovers per contest. He had 28 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high 10 turnovers Sunday.

"It's on us," Curry said. "We're the ones out there making the plays so we gotta be conscious of it."

Golden State averaged 18.8 turnovers in losing all four meetings with San Antonio a season ago and has dropped 21 of 23 matchups in the regular season. The Spurs eliminated the Warriors two seasons ago in six games in the Western Conference semifinals.

"Everybody knows San Antonio, that's going to be a tough game," Warriors forward Draymond Green said. "We can't turn the ball over like that. They'll capitalize on every mistake you make."

Green is averaging 20.0 points and 8.3 rebounds in his last three games after tallying 8.7 and 7.0 in the first three.

Can plenty of 3-pointers parlay into NBA ATS success?
By JASON LOGAN

Live by the three. Die by the three.

It’s a phrase from a bygone basketball era in which taking a shot from beyond the 3-point arc was a risky roll of the dice. But, according to John Schuhmann of NBA.com, living by the three is the way of life in the modern NBA.

Three-point shooting has been on a steady increase since the league introduced the shot in the 1979-80 season, going from a league-wide 28 percent in that inaugural season to 36 percent last year. Only 3.1 percent of shots attempted were from distance in that first season with the 3-point line. Last year, teams took almost 26 percent of their total shots from downtown.

And, if you do the math, it makes sense.

“A made three is worth 1.5 times a made two. So you don't have to be a great 3-point shooter to make those shots worth a lot more than a jumper from inside the arc. In fact, if you're not shooting a layup, you might as well be beyond the 3-point line. Last season, the league made 39.4 percent of shots between the restricted area and the arc, for a value of 0.79 points per shot. It made 36.0 percent of threes, for a value of 1.08 points per shot.”

According to Schuhmann, NBA teams without a ton of firepower are making up for that lack of scoring punch by shooting more and more shots from outside – a calculated risk with the way today’s NBAers can drain from 3-point land. That also leaves bettors wondering if their money is best wagered on teams with a prolific shooting range.

This season, the Top 10 teams in terms of percentage of total points from 3-pointers are a collective 37-28-1 ATS – covering the spread at a 57 percent rate to start the season. Some of the best ATS teams in the 2014-15 season are on this list, including the Houston Rockets at 5-2 ATS.

Houston depends on the 3-ball for 39 percent of its scoring and is shooting 39.6 percent from distance (sixth in the league) on a NBA-high 32.9 3-point attempts per game – five more 3-point shots per game than the next team on that list.

Other notable wagers taking – and making - their share of shots from long range are Golden State (5-2 ATS), Portland (5-2 ATS), and Miami (5-2 ATS). All four of those teams rank in the Top 15 in terms of offensive efficiency (points per 100 possessions) this season, and according to Schuhmann, “Fourteen of the 15 most efficient offenses last season ranked in the Top 10 in either 3-point percentage or in the percentage of shots that were 3-pointers.”

However, that’s not to say that there aren’t teams still “dying by the three” out there. The Philadelphia 76ers are 0-7 SU and 3-4 ATS, attempting 25.4 3-point shots per game – fourth most – but hitting only 33.1 percent of those looks. The Sixers have an offensive efficiency rating of just 93.5 (point per 100 possessions), which ranks dead last in the league.

Raptors tied with Warriors for league's top ATS play
Stephen Campbell

The Toronto Raptors have gotten off to a red-hot start to the NBA season, and as a result, are now tied for the league's top spread play.

Fresh off of a 120-88 blowout (and an easy -13.5 cover) against the lowly Philadelphia 76ers Sunday, the Raps (6-1 SU) are 6-1 against the spread throughout their first seven games. The Golden State Warriors fell 107-95 and failed to cover the +2.5 spread against the Phoenix Suns Sunday, but sit tied with Toronto as the only two teams in the Association with just one ATS loss (5-1).

DeMar DeRozan's squad is in action Tuesday north of the border versus the Orlando Magic, while Golden State hosts the reigning champion San Antonio Spurs in a clash of Western Conference heavyweights Tuesday evening.

Bucks becoming a nice Under play for totals bettors
Stephen Campbell

The ailing Oklahoma City Thunder seek their first road win in a showdown against the Milwaukee Bucks in Wisconsin Tuesday.

The Durant and Westbrook-less Thunder are 0-4 SU away from home this season. The Bucks have been a scorching-hot Under play as of late, evidenced by each of their last four games going Under the total.

Milwaukee is currently 2.5-point home faves with a total of 188 for the affair.

Trend shows Kings covering in meetings with Dallas
Stephen Campbell

The Sacramento Kings have enjoyed a nice start to the season, surprising many by going 5-2 SU out of the gate.

The Kings travel to the Lone Star State for a matchup with the Dallas Mavericks, and history is showing Sacramento has been fantastic against the spread in those games.

Sacramento is 4-0 ATS in their last four games vs. Dirk Nowitzki's group. The Mavs are presently -7 home faves with the total sitting at 206.

Texas A&M (+23.5, ML +1100) at Auburn, 41-38

The largest favorite to cash
Marshall (-27) at Southern Mississippi, 63-17

Top 25 Notes

-- It was a topsy-turvy day in the Top 10 in college football, with teams going 6-4 straight-up and 4-6 ATS. One of those games was a Top 10 battle between Kansas State-Texas Christian. Michigan State also lost 49-37 at home to Ohio State, while Auburn was stunned at home by Texas A&M in the biggest upset of the weekend.

-- Marshall continues to stomp all comers, winning 63-17 at Southern Mississippi to cover a big number. They're a perfect 9-0 SU, but more importantly they have covered seven of the past eight.

-- After a hiccup at West Virginia Oct. 18, Baylor is rolling again. They absolutely undressed Oklahoma 48-14 as a 5.5-point underdog in Norman. The biggest surprise might be the fact the 'under' is 3-2 in Baylor's past five.

-- Duke continues to fly under the radar, mainly because they're named Duke. However, this is a very good football team. They covered again on the road at Syracuse, improving to 8-1 SU and 6-1 ATS over their past seven games, including three in a row on the road and four straight overall.

-- UCLA has won four in a row since a 42-30 loss to Oregon, and they have covered back-to-back games for the first time all season after a 44-30 win at Washington.

Big Five Conference Report (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC)

-- Georgia Tech routed North Carolina State on the road, 56-23. The Yellow Jackets are now 6-0-1 ATS in their past seven visits to Carter-Finley Stadium, and 9-3-2 ATS in their past 14 against N.C. State overall. ... Louisville started slow, but eventually doubled up Boston College 38-19. That's four straight road covers for the Cardinals. ... Florida State remains unbeaten, but they failed to cover again in a 34-20 win against Virginia. The Seminoles are just 2-7 ATS against the number this season.

-- Minnesota was a short home dog, but they blew the doors off of Iowa 51-14, claiming the Floyd of Rosedale trophy. It was Minnesota's first cover since Oct. 11 against Northwestern, a span of three games. ... 'Over' bettors had a glimmer of hope when the Wildcats scored late to make it 10-9, pending the extra point, against Michigan. However, head coach Pat Fitzgerald elected to go for a two-point conversion and the win, eliminating overtime as a possibility, and killing the over for good. ... After Ohio State's win, they have won seven straight since their loss to Virginia Tech Sept. 6, and they're 6-1 ATS during the span. The 'over' has cashed in eight straight games for the Buckeyes, who have 31 or more points in each games during the span, and 21 or more points in each of their nine outings.

-- It was a day of the dog in the Big 12, with underdogs going 3-1 ATS. The over favorite to win was TCU upending K-State 41-20 in Fort Worth. It was also a day of the 'under', with only, again, TCU-K-State as the outlier.

-- Washington State lost QB Connor Halliday (ankle) last week to an ugly injury, so they turned to Luke Falk for his first collegiate start. And it was a successful start. The Cougs, who were eliminated from bowl eligibility last week, won 39-32 in Corvallis against Oregon State. The Beavers have failed to cover in four straight, and the over is 4-0-1 in the past five. ... Colorado covered an 18.5-point spread - barely. They lost 38-20 at Arizona. While they have won just once in the past eight outings, they are a respectable 5-3 ATS during the span. The 'under' against Arizona snapped a five-game 'over' run for the Buffs.

-- Mississippi and Mississippi State each stepped out of conference, and out of FBS, to battle Presbyterian and Tennessee-Martin. Both teams won handily, but they each failed to cover big numbers. ... Florida's resurgence continues, as they won and covered on the road in Nashville against Vanderbilt. The Gators have won back-to-back games for the first time since early September, and they have covered back-to-back games for the first time all season. ... Alabama was on the rope, down 13-10 late at LSU, but they booted a field goal with :03 left in regulation, later winning OT. See the bad beats (below) for the rest of the story.

Mid-Major Report

-- If you like underdogs, the AAC is for you. 'Dogs went 2-2 SU and 4-0 ATS this weekend, with Tulane winning 31-24 outright at Houston. The 'over' hit in three of the four games, and all three on Saturday.

-- In Conference USA, Rice has been cooking lately. The Owls have won and covered six in a row, lasting losing back on Sept. 20. ... Louisiana Tech went on the road at Alabama-Birmingham 40-24, and they have now won five consecutive games and they have covered three straight and five of the past six. The Bulldogs have a week off before traveling to Old Dominion Nov. 22.

-- Hawaii was back on the mainland, and that's usually a losing combination. The Warriors are winless in four trips to the contiguous 48, and they're 0-3-1 ATS in the four trips, including Saturday's 49-22 drumming at the hands of Colorado State, a 21-point favorite. ... Speaking of the Rams, they have won eight in a row, and they are 6-2 ATS during the impressive stretch. The 'over' has also cashed in three straight for CSU. ... The 'over' continues to be the play for Tulsa, cashing in four straight, and eight of nine this season.

-- The Mid-American Conference (MAC) had its schedule mid-week, with two games Tuesday and two games Wednesday. The road team went 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS, and the under was a perfect 4-0.

Bad Beats

-- If you had LSU plus the points at home, you were likely feeling great all evening long. The Tigers were catching 6.5 at home, and they were covering the entire time in regulation. The only time they were failing to cover, after Alabama's first possession, which they cashed in for a touchdown. LSU failed on their possession, and the Tide won 20-13. Tide ticket holders were elated, and Tigers ticket holders were left sick to the stomach.

-- Ole Miss held a 35-0 lead at halftime, and appeared well on their way to covering a 50.5-point spread against Presbyterian. The Rebels scored a touchdown with 10:01 left in the fourth quarter, needing just three points for the spread to hit. The Blue Hose defense kept the Rebels at bay for the rest of the game.

-- 'Under' bettors liked the first three quarters of UConn-Army, with 28 total points through the first 45 minutes. The two teams combined for 28 points in the final stanza, including two touchdowns in the final 2:06 to push the total over.

-- The South Alabama-Arkansas State game appeared headed for an 'under' (52.5), but USA found the end zone with 1:22 left to turn the total result into an 'over'.

-- Tulsa was a two-touchdown favorite, and they lead 35-20 with 3:15 to go until SMU punched in a touchdown to draw to within 35-28. The Golden Hurricane drove down to the SMU 7, but settled for a field goal with 1:08 to go, failing to cover. It was close, but...

1) Mississippi State (W-L vs. UT Martin 45-16)
The Dogs had their tune-up, but now, they have to get ready for the biggest game in school history at Alabama.

2) Florida State (W-L vs. Virginia 34-20)
It's not stunning that FSU was once again trailing in this game. The Noles just aren't right, but they're still winning.

3) Auburn (L-L vs. Texas A&M 41-38)
Defensive woes nearly cost Auburn in each of the last two weeks. They finally got the Tigers against A&M.

4) Oregon (W-W vs. Utah 51-27)
The Ducks still can't feel comfortable about being in the Top 4 if they win out.

5) Alabama (W-W vs. LSU 20-13)
The Crimson Tide made the big statement when they had to, coming from behind to beat LSU on the road.

6) TCU (W-W vs. Kansas State 41-20)
For our money, the coast is totally clear for TCU now. It might still take some help to get into the playoff, though.

7) Kansas State (L-L vs. TCU 41-20)
Any hopes of a Big XII title are probably gone for the Wildcats.

8) Michigan State (L-L vs. Ohio State 49-37)
No one saw MSU giving up over 500 yards in this game.

9) Arizona State (W-W vs. Notre Dame 55-31)
Arizona State all of a sudden might control its own destiny to get into the playoff.

10) Notre Dame (L-L vs. Arizona State 55-31)
Everett Golson picked a bad time to throw four picks in a game.

11) Ole Miss (W-L vs. Presbyterian 48-0)
SEC teams should be much better than to schedule games like these, but they all do it.

12) Baylor (W-W vs. Oklahoma 48-14) The Bears were dominant, but they can't like what they see going on around them. 11-1 won't be enough to get into the playoff in all likelihood.

13) Nebraska (Bye)

14) Ohio State (W-W vs. Michigan State 49-37)
The Buckeyes will need some help, but they should win out from here and have a shot to be in the playoff.

15) Oklahoma (L-L vs. Baylor 48-14)
The only thing that made that loss to Baylor worse was losing Trevor Knight to a leg injury.

16) LSU (L-L vs. Alabama 20-13)
The worst break in the world came Saturday night when LSU bettors couldn't stick in front of +6.5 in spite of the fact that the whole game before OT was razor close.

17) Utah (L-L vs. Oregon 51-27)
Do yourself a favor and watch the Utah fumble in the end zone that turned into a 99-yard TD for Oregon… That was the end of the season for the Utes right then and there.

18) UCLA (W-W vs. Washington 44-30)
The Bruins have quietly been picking up steam in the Pac-12.

19) Arizona (W-L vs. Colorado 38-20)
This one was much closer than the final score suggested.

20) Georgia (W-W vs. Kentucky 63-31)
Many thought UGA was on upset alert in this one.

21) Clemson (W-L vs. Wake Forest 34-20)
The best news for Tigers fans? Deshaun Watson could be back next week.

22) Duke (W-W vs. Syracuse 27-10)
The Dookies are three wins away from a trip to the ACC title game for the second straight year.

23) West Virginia (L-L vs. Texas 33-16
The Mountaineers proved that Austin is still a tough place to play.

24) Georgia Tech (W-W vs. NC State 56-23)
The Ramblin' Wreck rumbled for 479 yards on the ground, and they did so without their top two running backs.

25) Wisconsin (W-W vs. Purdue 34-16)
The Badgers can still win the Big Ten if they can win out.
