I was amazed to watch this guy completely blow a game on his own saturday. Goes for 2 while up 11. Can run the clock to about max 8 seconds on kneel downs...but instead runs the ball.

I know he's had success there but these are horrible mistakes. Hard to have an confidence in someone who makes these kinds of errors on simple game math.

Hahaha, people forget where ND was before Kelly arrived. Hes made them relevant again, but yeah, fire his ass even though its extremely difficult to win there.

Anyone who thinks so is a complete idiot and knows ZERO about ND football.

Guy has brought the program farther than anyone since Lou Holtz. Going for 2 was dumb as well as not taking a knee and only leaving them 20 seconds or so. Wouldn't trade Kelly for anyone at this point

ND is a very hard place to win at.

He's done a great job there. You can't win them all. His players need to execute better, because he's put them in position to win. They aren't luring another coach there that's better.

True story.

They are primed for a good run next year.

I don't think he's a bad coach but when someone doesn't understand those basic things....makes me question his ability.

Here is what he said after the game:

“At that point, it was a coin toss to go for one or two. So we decided to go for two,” he said.

When pressed, Kelly offered slightly more.

“Our chart tells us in that situation to go for one, but we were up, I think, 11 at the time and we felt like, given the circumstances, our kicking game situation, that we were going to try to extend it with a two-point play,” he said.

The “kicking game situation” could have been referring to Malik Zaire’s botched extra point hold in the first quarter, which was blocked and run back for two points, or the 38-yard field goal Kyle Brindza missed at the end of the first half.

“I wouldn't say I was looking to avoid (kicking), but I didn't like the way the mental approach of our kicker,” Kelly said. “Obviously we were going to be in a close game. We were trying to get him to get his confidence back. It was a rough day for the kicking game.”

I was wondering what his comments would be when asked. Honestly, this doesn't make him look better. Why would someone need a chart on when to go for 2?

He is a coach, aware of what is/isn't he went with odds. Good call, was blocked and run back for two points, or the 38-yard field goal Kyle Brindza missed at the end of the first half.

If was blocked again and run back for two...... I didn't see game but Irish season ended on 10/18/14!

He is a coach trying to coach.

He had no control over the fact that Justin Cruise bet his team on an offshore forum bet.
There is no coach in the Universe that can overcome such powers.

Now that is funny.

I'm ok if mods delete thread. I did not factor that in.

I'm always amazed how these coaches being paid millions are not smart enough to make simple decisions that you and I can make. He ought to just come out and say I'm an idiot and apparently don't know what I'm doing because that is the truth. He cost them that game on his own.
