He screwed up on the Ray Rice situation and didn't want to be 0-2 on the major scandals in the NFL this season.

Yep, done for the year without pay.

AP should sue. I'm not clear what authority America's worst sports commissioner has to do this. D Smith should resign in disgrace for handing over so much power. He rolled over like a little puppy with a belly full of milk during the last CBA...

But he still came out 0-2. No way should Peterson be done for the year. I have a feeling the NFLPA will have something to say about this.

I think he should be allowed to play. He did 10 games for something that he pled down to a misdemeanor to and he has never been in trouble before.

I think the NFLPA giving the NFL the finger over the hearing really pissed the league off and then also after the Rice fiasco they just want any AP controversy to go away.

Why shouldnt he be allowed to play? He has already been judged by the judicial system, getting penalized twice has never made any sense. The punishment must fit the crime, and losing an entire season seems excessive.

Not defending Peterson at all.. But if this was last year he'd already be back playing.. This is a little excessive.

I dont think anyone here is defending Peterson, but these rulings by the commissioners office seem like hes shooting from the hip and doesnt think things through

While I think he should play....

There are always external factors with these things, cause and effect. Obviously after the Rice situation, the next dude to get jammed up was gonna feel the wrath.

For one he beat his kid.

Two, he isn't getting penalized twice. He pled down and got off on the child abuse felony charges. No penalty. He can't do his job for the rest of the season is the only penalty he has received thus far.

I understand people thinks its excessive but I don't. I look at child abuse differently than some.

Why isn't the NFL banning Ray Lewis from any type of NFL association? When he does that I will know Roger Goodell is serious about cleaning up the NFL. Also ban any felons for life.

This is all a publicity for the NFL to show they're good guys. The NFL knows what kind of animals play for the league.

I thought the beating of this child was real bad.....but, it was plead down to a misdemeanor... end of story... way to big of a penalty here...

Agree. The "child abuse" charges were blown out of proportion (IMO). Sure, he spanked his kid....but that's not "child abuse". The pussification of America is in full swing. The embarrassment of the whole situation is more punishment than he deserved. He should be back on the field.

Agree w/ mrwho about the owner not wanting to pay him now that the season is in the tank. Even though he has been getting paid through all of this, w/ the NFL punishment he'll have to pay the money back.

My problem w/ this suspension is that RBs have a short shelf life in the NFL. AP is close to that shelf life, although he does seem like a durable back who has several more years. But even if he were to play 12 years, losing an entire year to a suspension is nearly 10% of his entire NFL career.
