I'll be heading to Costa Rica for the first time in just over a week and will be staying at the Riu Palace. Typically there's a casino there, however apparently it's closed for renovations until late December. Are there any other casinos worth visiting nearby?

that seems weird that they would do renovations in dry season....

Nearby restaurants, bars, luxury and budget hotels, discos, casinos, and plenty of nightlife fun can be found at Playas del Coco, the largest village in the Guanacaste Province. Adjoining Playa Coco is the exotic beach of Playa Conchal,

If you are just wanting to play a little Blackjack or Poker there is a small casino right by both the Riu Properties. It was nothing to write Home about, but for a little messing around time...it was fine
