Hotpizza's RX 3 Day Challenge

I want to challenge the posters of the RX to a 3 day challenge.

The challenge starts today and ends on Wednesday

I am challenging each of you to go to your local grocery store and get not one but two shopping carts. Fill them up with the same equal items:

Frozen Turkeys
Canned Vegetables
Instant potatoes
Boxed Stuffing
Canned or packaged dry gravy

Then I want you to go to your local food bank and donate them. When they ask you if you want a tax receipt say no.

I did this today and I am going to share my story. I am passionate about helping others and I do this every year.

My local grocery chain has a deal that if you spend "x" amount of money you get a free turkey of "x" size and if you spend "x" more you get a bigger turkey.

I take two carts and load them with the same identical items in each cart. Then I get the turkeys on top of the turkeys I am buying.

Today going through the line with the two big ass loaded carts, the manager who recognizes me says, someone is hungry. I say to him, not I but thousands of people out there are starving, have no place to call home and need help. He says God Bless You man and walks away.

So I am loading these buggies full of goods and out comes the manager with a cart heading towards me. I am thinking did I forget items but instead he has turkeys and says to me, you are a loyal shopper and a good man. I was inspired by what you said and here are some more turkeys, I think you left them behind by accident. I know I didn't leave them behind but knew what he was getting at. I thanked him and he says no we owe you the thanks. I used to be one of those homeless hungry people with no place to stay and if it wasn't for people like you, I'd still be there or dead.

Very touching indeed my fellow posters.

This isn't a pay it forward initiative, it is helping your fellow man in their time of need and being thankful you aren't in their shoes.

So when the ball doesn't bounce your way or a ref throws a flag that cost your team a TD for the win or cover, think of those that wish they had that opportunity to be in your shoes.

Report back if you take up my challenge and please don't be shy. Life is too short to be regretful.

You've inspired me to make a donation. I drive right by my local food back on my way to my mothers house daily.
I've dropped off checks before (small donations) but this time of year food seems more appropriate!

commend those that do this. Personally christmas means a lot to me so I try to do more for christmas charities ( angel tree and toy for tots) than others, but regardless of your cause, most of us here are very fortunate. We gamble away money that could make a real difference in others lives, it's important to remember others.

Please don't forget the homeless animals out there as well...

On the flip side of the coin , many MANY moons ago i had to do a little community service and the guy that ran the soup kitchen was pissed (well not pissed but dismayed) at how many people came to volunteer and make donations at the holidays , but he cant find volunteers in march or june.

So if you want to really get that warm and fuzzy feeling from helping the unfortunate do it year round and not just at holidays.

They really need help in summer and winter.

Nice story. I plan to cook extra again this year and pass out some plates on turkey day.

Thanks everyone. The biggest time of the year of need for the food banks is the holiday season. While it is true there is need all year long, this time of the year is by far the greatest.

I figured this topic wouldn't get much fan fare because it isn't controversial or offers some kind of prize for taking part.

Human kindness outweighs all.

Thanks to all who took part in the challenge.

Question was asked why not get a tax receipt. The whole point of the challenge was to help others and not look for anything in return. A tax receipt would be something in return.

Selfless acts are the best by far.

So my $450 won't go towards taxes big year, big fn woop. I am happy I took care of a lot of families in need.
