  • MOSCOW (AP) Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke returned to the boxing ring Friday at the age of 62, defeating a fighter less than half his age in an exhibition bout.

Rourke sent 29-year-old Pasadena native Elliot Seymour to the canvas twice in the second round before the referee stopped the fight.

The bout at a Moscow concert hall was Rourke's first fight in 20 years. He took a break from acting in the early 1990s, finishing a three-year pro boxing career with six wins and two draws.

He hinted that the return to the ring has helped him cope with unspecified personal issues.

''I've got some things going on in my life so that (boxing has) sort of saved me from myself,'' Rourke told Russian TV. ''And for a man like me, it's better to live in fear than go on in shame.''

He has said he plans to hold another four fights in Russia.

Rourke prepared in a dressing room in front of a shrine featuring candles, images of saints, and photographs of his dogs. Rourke said he had been in mourning for his recently-deceased Chihuahua.

He took to the ring in a Stetson hat, a red-and-gold robe and shiny gold gloves, repeatedly crossing himself.

Rourke, who had said he lost 35 lbs (16 kilograms) to prepare to the fight, was much thinner than in his best-known cinematic fighting persona, when he bulked up to play the title character in 2008's ''The Wrestler.'' His shorts bore his ring nickname from the 1990s, Marielito, with a Spanish-language message reading ''always handsome.''

The fight was held at a pedestrian pace, with both Rourke and Seymour frequently backing away from one another and letting down their guard.

Several of Rourke's punches appeared illegal. His final punch struck the stumbling Seymour on the buttocks and the 29-year-old went down to all fours until the referee stopped the contest. The Russian crowd chanted ''Misha,'' a short form of the Russian name Mikhail, in Rourke's honor.

Seymour, a former California Golden Gloves champion with a 1-9 pro record, did not land any significant blows on Rourke, whose previous boxing career left him with injuries that he has previously said necessitated extensive plastic surgery to his face.

Following the fight, the crowd was treated to a concert by Grigory Leps, a Russian rock singer who has been barred from entering the United States due to alleged mafia connections.

On the undercard, Olympic light-heavyweight champion Egor Mekhontsev continued his unbeaten start to his professional career, moving to a 7-0 record with a win over Ugandan fighter Joey Vegas.

Russia's Eduard Troyanovsky knocked out Jose Agustin Feria of Colombia in the first round for the WBA intercontinental lightweight title, moving to a 20-0 record.

This was truly a farce.

His "fight" with Chris Jericho was more legit than this nonsense.

I'm not sure a single punch thrown in that fight would move a heavy bag at all.

Mickey Rourke's boxing opponent admits to taking a dive for $15,000

In a startling and completely unexpected confession, Elliot Seymour, the 1-9 pro boxer who fought actor Mickey Rourke in Russia last month, has admitted that their bout was fixed.

When 62-year-old actor and former amateur boxer Mickey Rourke obliterated Elliot Seymour in their exhibition match in Russia, boxing aficionados were immediately quick to point out that Rourke could potentially be the superstar at heavyweight who could immediately threaten Wladimir Klitschko and "curbstomp" Deontay Wilder with one hand tied behind his back. To refresh your memory, here were the two bone-chilling knockdowns that forced the 2nd round stoppage.

Sadly, this feel-good story has taken a turn for the worse. Seymour, who is unbeaten in 1 of his 10 career pro fights, spoke with TMZ Sports and made the disappointing confession that this fight wasn't actually legitimate after all.

Elliot Seymour tells TMZ Sports the deal was he would go down from a body shot in the 2nd round ... and he would get $15,000 -- $10k up front and the rest when he got back to the U.S.

Rourke's trainer still denies the fix, and tells us he believes Seymour will change his story to whatever he thinks will make him more money.

Supposedly Seymour hasn't received the remaining $5,000 from Rourke's camp yet. He also revealed that he was specifically told not to hit Rourke in the face, and that the plan was to effectively choreograph the entire fight -- set up jabs in the 1st round, for example -- up until the body shot finish. However, he claims that (at least to his knowledge) Rourke was unaware of the whole thing.

I'm not sure boxing can truly recover from a scandal like this.

Lol, really a boxer selling out just for 15k and spilling the beans for 5k? Hmmm seems odd to me.

Anyway Mickey is a great actor, the Wrestler is a haunting film, 100% recommended.

Dont know if true, seems very plausible when you watch fight.

Also the dude is basically homeless so 10k(15k) and a free trip to Russia ( and maybe a little
Russian poontang) is a pretty nice chunk of change.
Its not like he is and up and comer.:hammerit with a reputation to protect.

Ok my bad hehehe.

Russian poontang is always a good reason to get your ass kicked, let alone 15k. Hell, I'll fight him for 5k and a 3some.

He destroyed it a good 30 years ago with a botched plastic-surgery job.
