I love the college football playoff, but would love to see 6 teams

Even before this season got underway I believed 6 teams would be great. It would give the top 2 seeds a bye and keep the integrity of the regular season and winning all games intact. Of course, today's scenario would work out perfectly, although we know #7 and 8 will always complain.

I would love to see 6 and not 8, which seems to be the popular choice of those who want to see a format change.

6 is fine, until Notre Dame steals the 6th spot from somebody. For example, this year would've been TCU or Baylor.

Doesn't matter how many teams --- 2, 4, 6, 8, 16. No system is perfect. Is the NFL system perfect, when Wild Card teams win the Super Bowl?

Still not convinced the BCS system is any better/worse than other systems. Most years, the BCS did a good job of matching 1 vs 2.

Let's be honest, playoffs (whether pro or college) have very little to do with fairness & integrity --- it's all about maximizing the TV revenue. Remember, greed is good!

If it's expanded it will go to 8. No way they only do 6. Remember, money will be involved here. Why not play 2 extra games?

Why would you want to award a bye for two teams in what is already a corrupt voting process?

I hope they don't add anymore teams. Would completely dilute the regular season and OOC matchups.

like I posted in a thread in the coll football forum, how important would the SEC & Pac 12 championship games be if Oregon & Bama would of already had a spot locked up with a 8 team playoff ? pretty much believe that losses by either team this weekend wouldn't have left them out of the playoffs..

This is true. Although in a 6 team playoff with a bye on the line they would've still had the pressure to win.

Yeah but they would care about seeding. Pretty sure they would rather win and play Michigan State in the 1st playoff then lose and have to face a team like Florida State in the first round because they fell to #6,7 or 8.

I disagree. I think you would actually get better OOC match-ups if p5 conf champs got auto bids. Teams would not be scared of losing an OOC game if they could still win their conference. Hell, most teams nowadays schedule a bunch of cream puff OOCs anyway to include FCS schools because they are scared of losing.

I have to respectfully disagree. If I were a coach and all I had to do was win the conference to get an auto-bid in to the playoffs, the last thing I would want would be to schedule difficult OOC games. There would be no incentive to do so and the games would be boring because the outcome would be pretty much meaningless. I think it would greatly dilute the game if they gave auto-bids to conference champions.

Exactly. Teams could be penalized to play a conference championship game. Example yesterday if Osu lost they'd be out but mich state would be in and didn't even play in conference championship game or beat Osu.

The problem is approx 50% of the current OOC are meaningless because the top teams are scared to lose. Western Carolina in late November? How important is that?

I would would also say the games would not be boring or meaningless. Pretty sure Florida-Florida State and other top match-ups are still going to matter to the players.

Lastly there are still 3 wild cards if you have 8 teams and auto bids. A big part of the committee could be OOC SOS for the 3 wild cards to incentivize good OOC games.
