Dog Question (American Stafford)

Moved to a friend's house about a month ago, he has a 7 month AS female pup.

Dog is a sweetie pie but my friend insists dog needs harsh discipline to avoid future issues, banned from the kitchen and bedrooms, not allowed to go out unsupervised, When doggie breaks the rules yelling and stomping is in order (when 1st command is ignored).

If dog really fucks up he does pick her up from her fur and throws her to show dominance, plus she gets whipped with the leash or chained if offense is serious or if she has been misbehaving all day. She can't eat until we say she cans even if bowl is in front of her.

I have zero experience with this breed, I've raised german shepherds and siberian huskies, still aggressive dogs but not close to AS's. My question is... is it a good idea to use any kind of physical punishment with the dog? I for one don't like this and I wouldn't raise my dog that way. But then again zero experience with the breed and in the end is my friend's dog!!!

I've had 2 Australian shepherds. 2 Blue Heelers which are similar dogs. Best dog I ever had was an Aussie/heeler mix. I have plenty of experience is what I'm getting at. Great dogs, very smart. You're friends a retard. Like Seymour said your voice is enough. And it doesn't even have to be yelling. 7 months is young. No need to do all that carrying on non sense. A firm NO will suffice. Give her something to chew on or she will start chewing on leather shoes. No need to spank a dog unless it's just a firm tap on the butt and say NO. Great dogs, be sure your friend doesn't abuse it.

The only times i would hit my dog was if he tried to bite someone or got into a fight - and I'm not talking about a Peterson whoop ass - I just wanted him to know that I'm the dog that bites too - I think if u hit a dog ur dog it's likely to make him aggressive - I think pitts are pretty friendly dogs - of course theyre very strong so u could run into a problem

Problem is Bourn, my friend is crazier than me and more ferocious than the dog. The guy is a glass artist that sells cok as a side biz, I am his friend and all but I dont go around telling him what is what, we have similar characters as we are both explosive so we quickly learnt to respect other's things and space. Among his skills, he can create gun powder with the right materials, and home made bombs. His art demands he knows about chemistry.

We have 2 guns and a shotgun, 4 nights ago a crackhead entered the property at 11pm, I was picking my laundry when BAM, shotgun blast to the sky, crackhead came running to the patio where I was at to beg for mercy on his knees... I had my knife in my hand as I always carry it in my vest or jacket.

Yeah, I hear ya. I had a friend like that years ago that owned a pit bull. I just let him do what he did and made comments hear and there like....dude. And shook my head. Not much you can do.

I've owned an AS before.

I can't say for sure since I don't have a big sample size to work with, but an AS breed is extremely loyal to an owner. My guess is if your friend keeps beating the shit out of her, she'll likely become confused and angry...as in WTF does this guy want from me? Dog will ultimately become depressed and then irritable.

Tell your friend to stop being a dickhead.

The house exploding due to a propane tank explosion, and the 2 HUGE oxygen tanks nearby... plus all the powder and else in that room. We were estimating how good of a show it would make for new year's eve lol.

This is fucked up. I have a work option that would have me move to the beach... see how it goes... also chick I'm dating proposed we shack together, pretty sure taht's a long term bad idea as I like my freedom.

I would think living with an explosive temper, bomb making, coke selling, dog beating and gun carrying guy would be more of 'a long term bad idea' then shacking up with the chick your dating.

I currently have an Australian Shepherd, the dog is really smart... He's getting up in age, and when he passes, I'll get another one.

Yeah, Bodie died a few years ago at 13. He had butt cancer which is extremely hard to treat because of all the nerve endings in the butt. Spent 1k to try, but didn't work. Hardest thing I've ever gone through hands down. Loved that dog.

Lol the guy is a good person, lived a hard life just like I have but he takes it up one notch or two. And in my book living with a chick is far more stressful than what you mention above.

To be honest, living with this friend in the last month, I've learnt more with him about survival and general art of living that I've learnt with anybody else. The guy is an alchemist, he does the dealer part as a side gig and is nowhere as risky as everyone here probably thinks.

So far he has hit the dog 2 times since I moved (and that I noticed), been here for a month, wouldn't call the dude a dog beater either.

Not a good idea to crush the dog, IMO. Like humans, dogs can be raised effectively without hitting or beating them.

If he's just hitting the dog once in awhile and not physically hurting the dog, then I certainly wouldn't risk the sweet hook up to tell him about it, lol.

I agree dog daze, the only animal that needs a constant smack are us humans... others more than some.
