Have you ever faced prejudice?

As a middle aged white male I find certain types and races make incorrect assumptions about me. I can tell by their attitude, which ranges from Steppin' Fetchit politeness to Malcolm X hostility.

I look like Archie Bunker, this sets some people off but my attitudes are more in line with Ayn Rand and Barney Frank

What has been your experience?

Being a white male living my whole life in the south i've never been the victim of race or gender discrimination (although ive seen it many times with blacks and women)

But i do believe i was once the victim of age discrimination. Was in my mid 40's and applying for a low wage retail job , the person interviewing me even said i seemed overqualified for the posistion and she was concearned there may be something in my life causing me to be an underachiever. .... and sure enough the job went to a 25 year old.

BTW everfresh , if you are middle aged and look like Archie Bunker i would suggest a makeover and a wardrobe change.

I mean , its ok to look like that if you are in your 60's or 70's , but if you're middle aged and look like Archie Bunker you should do something about that.

I knew a guy on a forum who was called "gay". They called him that just because he had sex with another man.........while in prison.......several times......

Well maybe you are just trying to say you look like Carol o' Connor , which is fine , as you say , you can't help who you look like.

I'm very white and I certainly don't look latin. I've felt discrimination in Limon down here which is an african american province down here. Other than that, no.

I get the "I'll do it cuz I has to, Whitey, but I ain't doin it cuz I want to" attitude all the time. Pisses me off. I've employed tons of minorities over the years and treated them as well or better than the entitled white assholes I also employ.

Being passed up for a promotion at a job I was at longer, passed the promotion interviews with higher scores and higher job performance scores, yet job was given to a minority because there were no minorities in that position yet, was 4 white males and 1 white female, and they had 1 open spot.

The minority had the 4th highest score, and also the worst attendance.....

I got discriminated against I would say....

Why even make people go through the extra interviews and such, when you know you are already going to hire the 1 minority that's applying. What a waste of time and effort on my part. One of the main reason I do not work there anymore, and it was my very first job out of the military as well.

Many times an employer (myself included) will hire a minority knowing full well they'll fail in record time and open the same spot back up for a qualified individual. Our hands are tied by the PC culture out there, we have to do it (hire them0 just to say we tried.

Having said that the minorities that apply fairly and are evaluated on their own merits are every bit as successful as the others, in my experience.
