6-8-2 Vs. 7-9

Im seeing Carolina getting the division with a win or tie. Why with a tie if Saints win? 7-9 is a higher winning % then 6-8-2.

But to answer your question its pretty obvious without looking it up.

A tie equals half a win so 2 ties= the equivilent of 1 win so 6+1/2+1/2=7 and the tiebreaker would be less loses

Or make that the tiebreaker would be the divisional records which the saints are behind on that against both teams

If a tie equals half a win then why is Cincinnati ahead of Pittsburgh right now? I thought it was because of win %. I guess its not so obvious is it?

Just look at the lose column losing 8 is better then losing 9

if Carolina ties again and NO wins, the Panthers division record 3-2-1 > Saints 3-3

Good question. If you look at Carolina's current win % (.433), it is giving them a half of a win for the tie. So, 6.5/15 = .433. Another tie would mean 6-8-2 is equal to 7-9. Here's the profootballtalk article explaining it:

It's the same situation here..Cincy gets the half win for the tie, so 9.5/14 = .679, which is higher than the Steelers (10/15 = .667)
