FYI....

While caffeine in your coffee, tea or soda might help give you that little extra boost in the morning, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is issuing a new warning that too much can be deadly.

The FDA is specifically citing the use of pure caffeine powder as linked to the deaths of two young men this year - 24-year-old James Wade Sweatt and 18-year-old high school student Logan James Stiner.

The FDA says part of the problem is that pure caffeine powder is easily available online - packaged and marketed similar to workout supplements.

"Teenagers, young adults are getting this powder because they want to lose weight. They also try to use it as a workout supplement. They're also trying to study longer hours ... It should not be used in any form in any way," said Lennox Hill Hospital physician Dr. Robert Glatter v

One teaspoon of the pure caffeine powder is the equivalent of 25 cups of coffee, meaning just a small amount can cause an accidental overdose.

The FDA has long studied caffeine and has issued warnings about its use in energy drinks, like Red Bull and Monster, energy shots like the popular 5-Hour Energy drinks, and in alcoholic beverages.

That one mighty huge scoop of pure caffeine to reach the equivalent of 25 cups of coffee.

1 scoop of the strongest presort on the market is only equal to 8 cups of coffee.

This warning is misleading - the FDA is talking about a powder form of caffeine and people mistakingly taking a mega dose all at once - key word being mistaken - even people drinking 8-10 coffees over the course of a day are not remotely close to this - the FDA is referring to someone taking a scoop of powder thinking they are getting the equivalent of a double expresso but meaning got a 40 expresso - people have overdosed on water too

Do not understand how this warning is misleading. The article is not referring to 8 or 10 cups of coffee. The article is referring to the same product that you are referring to. A certain powder form of caffeine.

It's basically referring to pre workout supplements and those idiots who take 4 or 5 scoops instead of one scoop like the directions say.

Idiots gonna be idiots.

It ruins a good thing for the normal people

You or me or some other people... no.

However at least two people died from an overdose.

I love caffeine, but there have been two instances where I got too much of it. It scared the hell out of me.
