After beating opponent 161-2, high school hoops coach suspended

A girls high school basketball coach whose team throttled its opponent by 159 points earlier this month reportedly has been suspended for two games.

Michael Anderson, coach of the San Bernardino Arroyo Valley team in California, confirmed the suspension to The Press-Enterprise (Riverside, California) on Wednesday night. He'll return to the Hawks next week.

Anderson's team defeated -- utterly -- the Bloomington High School team (also in California) on Jan. 5 by an almost unbelievable score of 161-2.

And no, it was never close. The score at halftime? 104-1, according to The Orange County Register.

That's something I would do. Running up the score is so overated in high school. Some schools are running raffles and bs to afford shoes and helmets while others are pulling kids out of their previous district to make them more dominant.

It was reported that only bench players played in the second half and they still outscored them 57-1 in that half. Both teams wanted the continuous clock in the 3rd quarter but the refs wouldn't allow it until the 4th.

I don't see any suspensions for the refs.

People who coach and think the way you do....are usually inadequate in other aspects in their lives and need a way to compensate. Disgraceful. You can take a knee in a game like that by telling your players to pass 5 times before they shoot or call off the full court press. Winning without dignity and class is not winning

what would be awesome if a team took a knee at the 1 yard line 4 times and then got a safety

then run the punt backwards and go out of bounds at the 1 and drive it 98 yards knee again safety

so they would still run all over the other team but the other teams moral will be better getting beat 30-0 on 15 safeties

but I would rather lose 90-0 I least I had a chance to stop them

If I tell you I am running a "powertoss left and my right guard is pulling". If you can't stop that, that is a "you" problem, not me. In girls basketball, most of the blowouts are due to 1 player being just dominant. Take her out. Lay her out. Don't go for the block, go for the knees.

It is life vitterd. That is what you are ultimately training for. I bet you Northwestern ex-athletes are more successful in real life than former Ohio State All Americans that never made it to the NFL like Mike Finkes

If my daughter came to me and said they beat us 100-1. My first question " what did you learn from that". Its not about finding the ref or the opposing teams coach or any of that.

Generally youth sports people are good people but you really cant avoid blowouts sometimes especially the way shit is now. I witnessed a HIGH SCHOOL team that once had Mike Conley and Greg Oden on it....Along with another Division 1 recruit. There is no shot clock in Indiana so you know the call, still doesn't matter.

It's life and you would ask your daughter what did she learn? Nobody learns anything from a game like that. It isn't life....it's basketball game where sportsmanship is expected. The coach was rightfully suspended.
