There was NOBODY near Burnett at the time except his own player... so Why I ask did he slide down with Over 5 Minutes left in the game ?

The guy thought there was 30 seconds left I guess. Stupid. You know he would take that slide back if he could.

Oh it's been talked about a lot. At the Rx that is.

Ok, I missed it, I guess...

any the thoughts ?

Don't get me wrong, I Won my Wager, GB +8.5 ... But are there any good reasons ?

I know if there is like 2+ minutes left in the game, that's what they Normally do.. but at 5+ minutes, I just don't get it

You're up 12 with 5 min AND the ball. It was the right play, you dont need more points.

Several years ago SD was leading when they intercepted Brady late in the 4th, then SD tried returning it and fumbled it right back to NE. NE went on to score and win the game.

Guy thought they had it won. Good athletes are not always the sharpest of tools.

From MMQB:

Oddly, with at least five yards of green in front of him, Burnett took just a couple of steps after the interception and then dived down and covered up. He didn’t want to fumble there or get the ball stripped. But the game wasn’t over. I looked for Burnett in the Packers’ locker room after the game to talk to him, but I never saw him. I’d love to know why he didn’t try to gain some yards, even if it was with both arms protecting the ball like an old-time fullback. What safety in the open field doesn’t want to try to score?

:hammerit

I thought he would at least try and get 10 yards. I can understand not wanting to fumble, but it certainly was an odd play.

Here's a freezeframe of the amount of space Burnett had when he intercepted. GB thought it was the game winning play, and that's why they reacted the way they did and ran the next series like they did.

The whole game they were playing not to lose. Seattle was trying to give them the game... and they were too scared to take it. No surprise that a defenders first thoughts would be to get on the ground because they might fumble or they might have a chance to run time off the clock. Coach instilled that fear in them. No way in hell a Seattle defender goes down in that situation and nobody would be telling him to go down.

Just an overall horribly coached game. Seattle tried to give it to them.

I've always like Mike McCarthy, but in this game, he reverted back to his roots. His 1st NFL Coaching job was with Marty Schottenheimer, the epitome of a good coach who became a scared rabbit, afraid to lose, in the playoffs.

forget about Seattle, IMHO... I think No other Team would do it.
These guys are Pros, and shouldn't be re-thinking if they are going to Fumble the ball.

I say 9 3/4 out of 10, wouldn't down the ball

Sorry man, but as a Packer fan, he's terrible and has been terrible. Having the best QB in the league hides just how awful he is. He was basically a decent offensive coordinator in New Orleans and helped San Francisco finish dead last in points scored during his one season as offensive coordinator there.
