The "integrity" of the game . . .

One of the primary arguments that the NFL has always used when it comes out against legalized betting is that wagering on the sport will damage the integrity of the game. Given all that has taken place on & off the field this past year, doesn't this rationale just strike you as absurd? Under Goodell, the league is losing any semblance of credibility.

I think if they supported legalized, regulated gambling, it would demonstrate integrity.

Instead, they are laughable liars and hypocrites.

NFL against Legalized betting, IMO, has to be for appearance-sake. Just as Church & State must remain separate but of course are not really.

I think we are at a great place, ESPN has Gamblers writing columns on their website and reporting (basically advertising) The Hilton SuperContest, Phil Steele costing bettors money with his lousy ATS picks on College Games on their TV Station, CBS's website Sportsline showing Lines on games...all be them wrong and I have no idea what bad feed they use lol....Jimmy The Greek would be pleased by the evolution, I believe and so should you.

What would be gained by the NFL vocally supporting sports betting?

What would be lost?

What would it look like? NFL "supporting" wagering on games.

Visualize what that would look like and I think you see a clear picture of why the NFL has to, in words and appearance at least, be non-supportive of wagering. In truth though they are the exact opposite. They fully realize wagering is whats made this past season their best ever viewership & revenue wise.

30 second Super Bowl commercial costs $4,500,000 this year.

As for Goodell, I dislike that he allowed pressure from Social Media to lead him by a pulled ear like a child on The Ray Rice deal and he was turned into a complete laughingstock as result, exposed as a mere servant to internet warriors and FemiNazis who are in fact now the true Commissioner of the NFL and Godell just their figurehead errand boy.

This opinion of mine NOT a statement of disagreement with the ultimate outcome of the Rice matter but instead displeasure with the fact that the Commissioner of the NFL let himself get pwned by an army of obese women sitting in their housecoats at computers.
