Help with Ebay selling

So I tried to sell a phone on Ebay.

Winning bidder asks me for IMEI #. I don't know if this is standard practice or not (friend said it is okay) so I told him I would send it as soon as I receive pmt. Got some run around for a few days...saying he had a coupon that he was waiting for. Anyways, eventually he said sorry and to cancel the order.

I cancelled it and re-listed it.

New winner asks for IMEI, I said I would send after I received payment as long as I could get the IMEI without opening the sealed box. Buyer said there is a sticker on the back with the IMEI (there is). Haven't heard anything or received pmt since that message. Item sold on 1/21/15....last message was on 1/23/15....i think after the message on 1/23 or 1/24 I sent an invoice to the buyer. still nothing

what do i do now?

PS...F Ebay...i pay up the ass fees for this headache?

Give them the IMEI.

There is zero risk for you. All they are doing is calling VZ ATT Tmobile (whoever your carrier is) to verify it is not on the lost, stole, no pay list.

Most people will not even pay for the phone until you give them the IMEI.

The IMEI is on the back of the phone as well as the box.. Its one of the 6 barcodes on there.

Can someone "steal" an IMEI....i.e. someone selling a bad phone grabbing my IMEI via this method so they can relay to someone else?

I managed a VZW for 3 years. Without getting to invlved in the process theres nothing they can do to really burn you.

ESN, MEID, and IMEI are all codes used by manufacturers to uniquely identify each device. Each device will generally have one MEID or ESN or IMEI.
Your device identifier can be found via Android's settings: Settings > About Phone > Phone Identity | Status > MEID (or similar)
More information:

Your device identifier (i.e. MEID, ESN, IMEI) can be used to check with a device's carrier (e.g. Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T) to check if the device is "clean" (not reported lost or stolen) and not tied to an account in bad standing.

i'd send him one note to check in and say you are going to have to cancel if you dont hear back in the next 1-2 days

if it has been a week with no response seems like dude has moved on and prob bought another phone

sounds like a major hassle overall....i've only bought shit on ebay...never sold anything

Just file a non paying bidder with ebay and he will answer that way for sure or he gets a strike against him (of course its nothing if 1st or 2nd time though)
