In the video below, at the 10 minute mark, you can watch NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams smile smugly and bask in the glow of David Letterman referring to him as a “war hero” during a March 2013 appearance on Letterman’s CBS show.
This is Williams basking in adulation purchased by a stolen valor lie that was paid for by the actual men who were in the helicopter that really was shot down in Iraq. The chopper Williams was in arrived safely an hour later.

He's confused about whether he was in an aircraft that was shot down? I'm pretty sure that's something you would remember, fog of memory or no fog of memory.
On air Wednesday night, Williams said he had "made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago," that the whole incident was simply "a bungled attempt by me to thank one special veteran and by extension our brave military men and women, veterans everywhere, those who have served everywhere while I did not."
So when he told a similar story about being shot down on David Letterman in 2013, that was a "bungled attempt" as well?
There are also people now digging into some of Williams' absurd claims regarding Hurricane Katrina.

We were talking about this situation at work today.
It seems on ocassion, there are times especially when younger, where you remember something differently than how your parent or an adult remembers it happening. That's pretty plausible. But usually it's something like getting your arm broken playing football or something like that.
In this case, getting shot at with an RPG is a pretty traumatic event in a guy's life. With these sorts of things, you don't just forget how it happened.
