The SEC was loaded with top tier college quarterbacks during the 2013 season. (Johnny Manziel, Zack Mettenberger, Aaron Murray, Connor Shaw, James Franklin and AJ McCarron...all who where drafted by the NFL.) Losing these players, many who were three year starters put the conference in a position of breaking in a large number of new starters during 2014.

Well, here we go again with the 2015 season. Other than Mississippi State (Dak Presscott), Missouri (Matty Mauk) and Arkansas (Brandon Allen) most teams will open the season with new starters at the quarterback position. Tennessee and Texas A&M got some encouraging play from young players last year and both will probably open the season under center. Most schools like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Florida will be breaking in new quarterbacks. Some of the new guys will shine and some will have a tough time and possibly be replaced or share playing time. Another factor are the quarterback recruits who will be coming in as freshmen this fall. Here's a list of QB recruits by team:

Alabama: Blake Barnett, 6-4, 200, 4star, from California
Auburn: Tyler Queen, 6-2, 235, 3star, from Georgia
Arkansas: Ty Storey, 6-3, 210, 4star, from Arkansas
LSU: Justin McMillan, 6-1, 180, 2star, from Texas
Ole Miss: Chad Kelly, 6-1, 210, 3star, from Mississippi. Jason Pellerin, 6-4, 210, 3star, from Louisiana
Missouri: Drew Lock, 6-3, 205, 4star, from Missouri
Tennessee: Quinten Dormady, 6-4, 210, 4star, from Texas. Jauan Jennings, 6-3, 180, 4star, from Tennessee. Sheriron Jones, 6-3, 190, 4star, from California.
South Carolina: Lorenzo Nunez, 6-2, 190, 4star, from Georgia
Vanderbilt: Kyle Shurmur, 6-4, 205, 4star, from Pennsylvania
Miss State: Nick Tiano, 6-4, 200, 3star, from Tennessee
Texas A&M: Kyler Murray, 5-11, 170, 4star, from Texas
Georgia: None
Kentucky: None
Florida: None

Most of these new QB recruits will be redshirted but some like South Carolina's Lorenzo Nunez will get a chance to play. The quarterback position will again draw a lot of attention for the best league in the country.

Welcome any comments...........................

If Treon Harris wins the UF job then UF won't be breaking in a new QB. On that note, I hope Will Grier wins the job. He has the most upside. I like Harris, but he's listed at 5'11 (and we all know that's bullshit).

Can't believe LSU brought in a 2-star QB. Anyone know anything about him? UF has two 3-star walk-on QBs on the roster!

Either Wlll Grier is the real deal this season or he's not.

Big recruit from NC....dad a HS coach. He makes it this year or he will transfer.

Harris did not open as the starting QB. The starter has transferred to Louisiana Tech.

He started the last 7 games. He's not the "returning starter"? I 100% disagree w/ you.

How can you list Texas A&M and Tennessee as having "returning starting QBs" but not UF? Harris started more games than Driskel.

OK coach...let's give credit to Harris starting for a team "starved" at that position. Hope the kid lites it up this season.

As far as Tennessee and A&M...my take is the Vol QB is the real deal who will be a player this season. Also, A&M's guy was highly touted and expected to be the Aggies starter before the season was over. The starter had many issues that made him less than dependable and that proved out.

Just a projection...the Dobbs kid at Tennessee (IF) he can get some help from the offensive line (awful last year) will be a stud in this league. He's a player! Problem...ZERO behind him if he goes down...other than three 4star freshman.

Georgia has a real QB battle going this spring. Several good talents and one will survive. Dowgs didn't even recruit a QB.

UGA couldn't recruit a decent QB with Eason coming in next year. Suprised they didn't land the dream team at wr, but next year will be a different story.

This is probably the single most important thread on this board. The QB has become such an important part of this game. I told a friend of mine before last season that I didn't think the SEC was going to be as relevant in 2014 as people thought. And the main reason was losing some very good and a couple underrated QB's. We're talking about McCarron, Manziel, Aaron Murray, and I always thought Connor Shaw was an underrated QB, along with Franklin at Mizzou. That's a lot to lose from one season. Ohio State had an embarassement of riches this season at QB. But they were the exception and not the rule. Even for a blueblood..

CL, not sure what your comment means. Harris may not be the next Tim Tebow at UF, but he did start the last 7 games of the year....vs. Dobbs who started 4 or 5? So because Dobbs is "the real deal" he's considered a returning starter (although he started less games than Harris) and Harris is NOT a "returning starter"? I don't get the logic. I hope he lights it up too....but that's totally not the point. You're counting a kid who started 4 games as a returning starter but not a kid who started 7? On that note, like I previously said, I hope Grier wins the starting job......

Winning teams have above average quarterbacks...proven year after year.

Otherwise, team better have one hell of a defense.

I have always leaned toward best defensive teams when betting and have survived.

Getting much tougher with these wild ass offenses. Wild ass offenses ain't going to win national championships.

Alabama will have one or two quarterbacks transfer out after spring practice.

Not that they are not good players...just ain't going to play for the Tide.

Last year's recruit out of Oklahoma and this year's new guy out of California will tell us a lot about Bama's
quarterback position come fall. Not as a starter...but who comes in the pecking order after the starter.

Jocob Coker is going to have to fall on his ass not to be the Tide QB this season!!!
