Wes Welker is reportedly joining Peyton Manning in thinking about retirement.

The 33-year-old receiver is considering calling it quits, according to FOX Sports. Welker has dealt with multiple head injuries in recent years (he had three concussions in a 10-month span) and his production has fallen off. Last season Welker had his lowest output in receptions, yards, and touchdowns since 2006 despite being active for 14 games.

The report says no final decision has been made, but "Welker has told concerned friends, family members and associates he's at least giving serious thought to walking away."

Welker was once one of the most dominant receivers in the league. From 2007-2012 he had five season with at least 110 receptions and 1,100 yards. His production has declined since joining the Broncos in 2013.

He's set to become a free agent next month.

Peyton Manning reportedly backin training with eye on NFLreturnBy Des Bieler February 9 at 11:28 PMIt is still uncertain whether Peyton Manning will return to the NFL, but Monday broughtanother indication that the quarterback intends to play an 18th season. The New OrleansTimes*Picayune reported that Manning was back in his hometown and preparing to workwith renowned trainer Mackie Shilstone, in an effort to prepare for the rigors of profootball.Shilstone is a New Orleans*based fitness expert whose Web site features testimonials fromthe likes of Serena Williams, Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr. and Ozzie Smith. He claimsto have trained “more than 3,000 professional athletes over the past 30 years,” andapparently can now add Manning to the list.On Jan. 21, Denver Post columnist Woody Paige reported that the only thing possiblypreventing a Manning return was his annual physical evaluation by the Broncos. Thequarterback’s 2014 performance waned as the season progressed, at least in part becauseof a thigh injury, but his biggest concern will be the condition of his surgically repairedneck.Manning reportedly plans on meeting with Broncos general manager John Elway andpresident Joe Ellis before they travel to the NFL scouting combine, which begins Feb. 17in Indianapolis. According to the Times*Picayune, the pair want a solid decision eitherway from the quarterback by March 9, one day before they would have to guaranteeManning’s $19 million salary for 2015.After a dispiriting playoff loss to the Colts on Jan. 11, in which Manning threw for 211yards and one touchdown in 46 attempts, he was asked if he was sure to come back for thefollowing season. “I kind of need to process this game,” the quarterback replied. “... Iguess I just can’t give a simple answer.”All indications now are that Manning wants to keep playing, and, in addition to the questfor another Super Bowl ring, he has several major statistical targets at which to takeaim. Brett Favre’s records for passing yardage (71,838), completions (6,300) and victoriesby a quarterback (187) are within reach if Manning can stay healthy and play reasonablywell.

I don't believe a word Lynch says, just not credible in my world. After football, he better have some money saved because bouncers don't make the kind of money he's used to spending

Manning's skills looked greatly diminished late in the season, I'm sure the Broncos are concerned about a dead arm and they're watching his progress

Welker's concussions have to be a concern, and his production has fallen way off the charts. Seems he may be another well timed departure for the Pats :)
