Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said the team has begun contract negotiations with quarterback Russell Wilson, who Schneider said "gets it and wants to win."
Schneider also said the Seahawks want running back Marshawn Lynch back, but the GM doesn't know if Lynch wants to continue his career.

"Obviously we think he's a helluva player," Schneider said of Lynch on Tuesday on 710 ESPN Seattle radio. "We want to have him back. He knows that, and his representatives know that. He knows if he comes back he's not going to be playing at the same number he's scheduled to make.
"Now, whether or not he wants to play next year, I can't answer that. I don't know if he knows at this juncture. He needs to find out where he's at. Especially with the way this guy runs the ball, it's taxing on his body. So he has to reset himself and get in that mind frame and get prepared for another season of this."
Lynch is in the final year of a four-year deal that will pay him $7 million in 2015. Lynch likely wants an extension if he returns. The Seahawks are willing to discuss it, but they need to know his plans.
"We would like to work this out as quickly as we can so we can move forward," Schneider said. "It may not happen overnight. He is extremely important to what we have here and the decisions we make moving forward in the offseason."
The Seahawks are talking to Wilson about a new deal that likely will make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. But Schneider insinuated Monday that Wilson might be willing to take less to help the organization keep the key components of the team together.
"We are going to do what's best for the organization," Schneider said. "That's the No. 1 thing. I think Russell Wilson wants to win championships. Russell knows there are certain dominoes that have to fall in place. He knows it. He gets it. He wants to win for a long time."
Wilson is in the final year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to make $837,000 in 2015. His new deal could reach in excess of $20 million a year and more than $100 million overall, along with more than $50 million guaranteed.
"I've talked to his agent [Mark Rodgers]," Schneider said. "I'm not going to get into specifics of contract negotiations other than to say that we're going to do what's best for this organization, and that doesn't mean you do exactly what everybody else has done around the league. I think we've proven we do things in the manner we want to attack it."

Remember how Carroll made Sanchez a winner at USC? He was in the Carroll system and that boosted a QB who absolutely sucks into a pro career where he was trash.

If Wilson had been drafted to any other poor record team, do you honestly believe he would have one tenth of the success? How do you think Wilson would have fared if he played for the Redskins? Maybe slightly better than RG2.5. Do you think Wilson would have led the Redskins to the playoffs? Not a prayer.

Wilson is a smart player and an excellent game manager. The media twist will never criticize him. Even after he threw the game-losing interception at the one yard line. It's amazing. Not one blip in the media that Wilson threw the Super Bowl destroying interception at the one yard line. The only man who rightly criticized Wilson was Deion Sanders.

Wilson may actually sniff the Hall of Fame, but it's because he landed in the perfect situation under one of the best football coaches who has won college and pro championships. I guarantee you that if Wilson had been drafted to the Bucs, Jaguars or Redskins he would never even sniff a Pro Bowl. And people would say 'Russell who?' Just the facts.

The Seahawks are set, however, in their division. After 49ers management destroyed a near great team that exploded out of obscurity (see NYK management for rich man's son on how to destroy a franchise) under Harbaugh, the Seahawks will have a much easier division. The 49ers will be horrible, the Rams will show flashes of shit and success, and the Cardinals will bang heads with the Hawks but likely play under the level of the Hawks. If things work out like they did in the Patriots division with Barfalo Bullshits, the Miami Deadpans and the New York Jumbles, the Seahawks could have a pleasant division for years and years. Throw in the great homefield advantage of Seattle and the Hawks could rival the divisional results of the Pats for years and years, and thus always be contenders.

And Wilson is placed in that situation and under Carroll. The guy should play in maybe two more Superbowls, maybe more. You never know. And, unfortunately, he'll get a sniff at the Hall of Fame.

But hey, Siefert won a Superbowl by being in the right situation at the right time.

Still can't believe it. Fucking quarterback, most imporant guy on the team, throws a fucking interception at the one yard line with 20 seconds left and not even a fucking blip in the media. And the media played highlights from the game over and over again. Ha ha.

It's like looking at crime statistics in the US and completely ignoring them to fit to the twisted media's agenda, and actually reporting to the contrary.

His numbers rival Tom Brady's numbers at the same time during his career. You can't make up the numbers. They speak for themselves.

If the numbers were unfavorable, you would just talk about 2 SB appearances. Put the game on his shoulders and he will fail. He has the best defense and the best running game. You act like the media when it comes to the midget. The end. I am not going back and forth with you.

Because you're wrong. I guess you're the only person in the US that thinks he sucks. We've all actually watched him play.

I like how you deflect with an "if" his numbers were unfavorable. They aren't unfavorable so stop with the "if" bullshit.

Pay him. He's a winner and fits that system the way Brady fit for the Pats. Two seasons consecutively in the Big Game are all the credentials he needs. By the way, it was the offense that had the Hawks in contention for that win. The D was vastly overrated this year and played as such in the SB. Without Wilson, Seattle gets beat pretty bad two weeks ago.

Ha ha. You kidding? He was trash in the NFC Championship game (4 INT's) and he threw the game losing INT at the one-yard line.

They need to hand him a bunch of money , but I have a feeling they'll step back and pass on that idea

You may be right, and he has some age, but he is just as important to Seattles success as RW. In the long run RW is a great investment, but Lynch is the glue on that team at this point.

I disagree on Lynch. Although I'm not a big fan of Wilson, he is 10x more important than Lynch.

Be honest, before the Hawks, what was your true estimation of Lynch? Without the Hawks he would've run himself into prison. The Hawks could put a quality running back in for him and he'd do great. Take Lynch off the Hawks and I don't think it'd be like moving Barry Sanders off the Lions and putting him on the Giants.

Quarterbacks are the gold of the league. The Hawks need Wilson because he fits perfectly in their game management system. Finding a serviceable quarterback is like finding a pot of gold. It's very hard. They can still win without Lynch. They need to sign Wilson, however.

How much is the cap going up over the next couple of years? Paying him like an elite qb would be a huge mistake. If there was ever a qb to sign below what he could potentially get I guess it is Wilson. Hopefully the Hawks are smart to realize if they pay him like a franchise qb they aren't going to continue their recent success.

LOL, he has one bad game in three years and he's a bad QB?

#goodone

# Russell Wilson on Redskins = no playoffs
# Russell Wilson on Jaguars = never sniff a Pro Bowl
# Russel Wilson on Bucs = Russell Who?

# George Siefert never sniff a Super Bowl if didn't luck into 49ers' timing
# Tubby Smith ever win a championship if Pitino didn't evacuate the throne
# Wilson lucking into Carrol's greatness as a coach

Kind of makes one think about Joe Torre.

You know, at the same time you've got to understand the insanity of the media.

In that first year where the media was blowing RG2.5 and Wilson it was the common belief that RG2.5 was the superior quarterback. The media gushed and gushed. They would debate non-stop. Maybe a few years forward RG2.5 will be permanently holding a clipboard or will be out of the league.

The Hawks have kept winning because of Carroll and his defensive machine. Just manage the game, Russell. Just manage it.

In fact, they were so afraid after his four INT NFC Championship that they didn't let him throw it until his second possession. And he didn't have one reception until damn near the end of the 1st half.
