Jackie Robinson West Little League, the Chicago-based squad that became the first all-African-American team to win the US championship in the Little League World Series, has been stripped of its title.

Little League Baseball announced on Wednesday that Jackie Robinson West must vacate all of its wins after the team violated a rule that prohibits the use of players who live outside the appropriate district that the team represents. Manager Darold Butler has been suspended indefinitely from Little League activity.

After Jackie Robinson West won the US championship back in August, a reporter penned a lengthy piece that described how the league secretly redrew its boundaries before the 2014 season without receiving permission from representatives from any other district. This allowed Jackie Robinson West to recruit players from the suburbs and other districts in Illinois.

As a result of the sanctions against Jackie Robinson West, the US title has been awarded to Mountain Ridge Little League from Las Vegas — the runners up in the tournament.

“For more than 75 years, Little League has been an organization where fair play is valued over the importance of wins and losses,” Little League International CEO Stephen D. Keener said in a statement Wednesday. “This is a heartbreaking decision. What these players accomplished on the field and the memories and lessons they have learned during the Little League World Series tournament is something the kids can be proud of, but it is unfortunate that the actions of adults have led to this outcome.”

Jackie Robinson West is the first Little League team to have its title stripped since 1992, when Zamboanga, Philippines vacated its championship after using over-age players and players that lived outside its district.

The real tragedy here is that Jackie Robinson West was one of the feel-good sports stories of the year in 2014. The Chicago Cubs honored the team with these warmup jerseys before a game, and the team’s incredible run inspired a business owner to pay rent for a player whose family had fallen on hard times. We wish it could have ended differently.

they cheated period...What about the kids who actually live in that district who didn't get the opportunity to play because their team cheated by farming in a bunch of ringers?....sucks for them too....

I'm sure ALL the parents knew what was going on...

I use to coach baseball and softball...

ALL INVOLVED KNEW THE RULES ...

no excuses...

agree, but also think this happens more than we know...

Just like the one from the Bronx, where they had the kid that was 2-3 years older then the other kids

The all black team. Why would they disgrace their hero jackie robinson?

Mark Moulder who grew up around that league said they have been doing that ever since he was in Little League. Not surprising.

Alot of these parents care more than the kids. If it was all legit, completely different teams and different states and cities would be represented every year. Their has to be 100K Little Leagues out there. But notice how many times Toms River New Jersey has been in there. I know locally, there is a team here that has made it there a few times or come close many times.

Its like high school, Bishop Gorman, Mater Dei, Southlake Carroll, De Lasalle, St. Thomas Aquinas are GREAT every single year, literally every year

Many years ago when the Hawaii team was in it, I think the coach had to quit his job or get fired because they would not allow him to miss that much time off work which had to be substantial due to their location. Who the hell paid for all those flights/ hotels? Not like the Little League has any money.

What about the money raised by the team so the parents could go to Williamsport? They took in about $250,000 in donations. i wonder what happened to all that money?

Everybody who disagrees with the stance Little League took is extremely ignorant, and foolish. Their mentality shows clearly!

One more story and I'm done...

I coached My daughters softball Travel Team..

I knew going in.. if/when we won she couldn't play...birthday issue..

for the tourney

I had to cut my daughter from the team (my team)...

before we started the games...still's hurts to this day...

but still did the right thing...

Punish the adults, not the kids. I doubt that a bunch of these kids got together on their own to find a way to work the system. The adults are the ones behind this. They should be fined and/or banned & let the kids keep what they earned on the field. No matter who you are, you can not legislate the results of what actually happened on the field.

The kids would know it's wrong cause they never played with these kids before and know they don't live by them

They're being encouraged by the Professional race baiters, including Jesse. It's disgusting. They either broke the rules or they didn't. The rules don't differentiate between races.
I do agree though, that the kids should not be punished, the adults who knowingly broke the rules should. Tough situation for the kids. From what I understand about the LLWS, the regional teams are kinda like All Star Teams, so the kids wouldn't, nor shouldn't, know where their teammates are from. Am I wrong about that?
