What's the benifit of playing the Allstar game on 2 channels?

TNT and TBS both owned by the same company .
Both channels are on all basic packages.
So if you get one channel you get both.

This will split the ratings.

Why not play the AS game on one channel and play Shawshank Redemption on the other channel?

They haven't played Shawshank in at least a week.

This would give the parent company more unique viewers instead of splitting the same product on 2 different networks owned by the same company.

They can't charge double for having the same product on 2 channels.

Thats not the way it works.

If 8 million watch the game on 1 channel.

The networks aren't going to get paid extra just because you have 2 channels at 4 mill each.

But if one of the channels had separate programming then they could charge for separate ads for the other channel.

Dont come calling me an idiot when you come at me with that response.

It does not work the way you are saying.

If that was the case then CBS could put the Super bowl on all 12 channels they own and charge the advertisers 4 mill x 12 and make 48 mill per 30 seconds. Lol

Turner pays a lot of $ to broadcast these games. Its not like whatever content they were gonna put on TBS on a Sunday night would get many viewers.

I remember the days when the only sporting even ever on TBS were the Atlanta Braves games. Now they have NBA and the NCAA tournament.

You don't get it.

TNT does not get paid extra for playing the same comercial on 2 channels.

If 8 mill watched the game on 1 channel

Then you have 4 mill each watch the game on 2 channels that's still 8 million.

So basically instead of TNT charging let's say 700k for being on TNT it will come out to something like 350k for TNT and 350k for TBS.

No gain in revenue.

But if TNT is the only one playing the AS game they get the whole 700k for TNT and they would get new unique revenue for having different viewers for Shawshank or whatever else they play.

1+1 does not equal 2

The return is likely minimal but it wouldn't take much to make it worthwhile compared to showing a Tyler Perry movie or something.

Maybe a few more people find the game or something. Only thing that really makes sense.

I don't know if there are any cable packages that have just one of those channels.

If that number is significant then I could see where it makes sense but from my experience both of those channels are always on the same package.

Dont know anyone who has one channel and not the other.
