Is Kevin Cash the right man for Tampa?Speaking of the Yankees, former New York backstop Kevin Cash has made the transition into a managerial career, having been hired by the Tampa Bay Rays on December 5th. Cash, of course, played for Tampa in 2005, where he hit .161 across 13 games for the then-Devil Rays. But, those were the Devil Rays, and now, Cash has to take over a rebuilding team that has said goodbye to Ben Zobrist, Sean Rodriguez, Matt Joyce, Wil Myers, and Jeremy Helickson this offseason; all of those players were instrumental in Tampa's continued run of success from 2010-2014 that saw the Rays go to the playoffs three times in five years.
With a team that has missed the playoffs two times in the past three years and is in a rebuilding period for the first time in nearly a decade, Kevin Cash has a lot on his plate, and some are now wondering if handing a team in the process of acquiring assets to a first year manager is the right idea. Though we haven't seen Cash manage, I think this is honestly a good first job for him; not every first year manager is going to get a loaded, contending team like Brad Ausmus did with the Tigers last year, or Mike Matheny with the Cardinals in 2012. I don't think the Rays will come anywhere close to the playoffs unless they go and watch from the stands, but I do believe Cash will turn out to be a good hire.
Soon enough, in fact, I think the Rays will cash in on hiring Kevin....no one?

Off to a 6-4 start--

TORONTO -- Rays starter Chris Archer pitched seven shutout innings and the Tampa Bay offense did the rest in a 4-2 series-clinching victory over the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Thursday.

Team will be loaded with starting pitching after a couple of guys come off the DL but that lineup is AAA like.
