ESPN's Olbermann out for week after Penn State comments

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) Keith Olbermann has been taken off his ESPN show for the rest of the week after making insulting comments about Penn State students on Twitter.

On Monday, a Penn State alum tweeted to Olbermann the phrase ''We Are!'' and a link to an article about students raising more than $13 million to fight pediatric cancer. Olbermann replied ''...Pitiful.''

Olbermann, who often spars with commenters on Twitter, then refused to back down, saying he was referring to Penn State students in general and not the fundraising.

On Tuesday, ESPN said in a statement that ''it was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong.''

Olbermann also apologized on Twitter, saying, ''I was stupid and childish and way less mature than the students there who did such a great fundraising job.''

Olbermann is a douchebag whose suspensions are almost as sure of a thing to happen as death and taxes, but fuq every State Penn student/athlete/donor/staffer that wore a 409 sticker or shirt a few weeks ago.

Dumb Tweet by KO, but suspension for it??? Seems pretty over the top. Censure, apology, sure. Suspension??? ESPN is crazy with their suspensions. Last year they suspended Bill Simmons for ridiculous BS, calling Goddel a liar. And Max Kellerman for some ridiculous crap also.

Olbermann sucks doing the "news" but I like him doing sports. He was great on SNF.

We all make mistakes and errors of judgements. The only people who don't are those that really don't do anything. ESPN over reacted.

Fwiw Simmons didn't really get suspended for calling Goodell a liar. Since he has comeback he has ragged on Goodell. What he got suspended for was moreso saying "I hope someone calls me tomorrow and says to watch it, I'm gonna tell them screw you, leave me alone because this is my podcast" (paraphrasing)
