Just herd Bob Ley call Josh Hamilton's situation with drugs a disease. Not sure I agree with that one.

Thoughts?

It is a self inflicted disease. Those who have it are cognisent about it. Most Dr's don't give a shit about the person because of this reason. I hate to call it a disease. Cancer is a disease. This is more of a bad habit that gets out of control. My Dad died at 51 because of alcoholism. I was in my early 20's and didn't completely understand it. 4 months before he died, we went to the Brickyard 400 and had some drinks. Bad idea.

If you are addicted to meth, you know you are. But the question "what is getting help?" Talking to other meth addicts? Talking to a psychologist who has never done but learned about it from a textbook? My Dad had been in treatment facilities. I know why now but at the time I thought it was BS. I too this day have a scar on my left shoulder over an altercation with someone from facility.

Josh Hamilton is always going to have drugs/ alcohlol on his mind. It is who he is. With all the money and resources he has, kinda proves what I say. You can babysit him all you want, eventually he will have 10 minutes apart from someone. That is all it takes.

This is how I kind of view it. A self-inflicted injury of sorts. It's something you bring on yourself not something that knocks on your door.

Hamilton should be in a long term treatment facility, then halfway house, build a close network of people yet come back there a couple times a week after it is over. Money is not an issue for him like it is for 99% of addicts. Forget baseball. It's over. He needs to be surrounded by anyone but a pro athlete. I feel more for him than some piece of crap like Derrick Rose. One of these days you may wake up to hear that he has committed suicide. Would not surprise me at all. In fact, I expect it.

I commend him for actually reporting his relapse. In my view, you don't punish a guy for doing what he's supposed to do. It's not like he's on drugs to gain a competitive advantage.

I think it is. An alcoholic's brain even looks different on a brain scan. Who hasn't abused alcohol at some point? It's different for an alcoholic, they continue to do it when most of us say to hell with this.

Does it look different though because of the alcohol? You know what I mean?

Not a disease, someone made a rational choice to try it the first time. It's a habit and nothing else.

How long till these drug addicts start getting government benefits cause they have a drug habit ... "Disease"

I don't think it's wise to throw stones at people when you've never been in their shoes. I do not understand alcoholism, because when I drink too much, I never want to have another one. Of course there is a genetic predisposition to it, so it's a burden they have to carry that others don't.

I have been in contact with several alcoholics and drug abusers, I have yet to catch this disease from them.

You don't have the predisposition for it. I don't either, but I have family members that do. I have a predisposition for depression, and I can't just decide to be happy. It is a battle and takes a lot of effort to cope with. There are all sorts of afflictions people have, depending on their genetics. Homosexuality is another one. I can't begin to understand why a guy would be attracted to another guy, but I conclude they have something that I don't have. Are these afflictions diseases? More or less, I think so.
