I think it's disgraceful lines are offered on these matches... how hard can it be for bookies to intimidate/bribe HS players to throw a game?

any live sporting event on TV is going to have a line on it.

why should the networks make all the money on these kids?

the networks don't pay the schools, the most the networks agree to pay is travel expenses.

It's a sweet deal for the networks, they have all the same expenses minus one big one, compensating the teams. and they get all the revenue from the ads.

then to distract people from the fact the networks make so much money off the kids, they have their employees (writers) say how bad it is that people gamble on these kids LOL all that does is increase viewership thus increasing what they can charge for ads.

and if any schools complain about $$$$ the network just finds another school drooling to get TV exposure.

what a crock of piss

I've fip-flopped like a fish and straddled the fence and been on both sides of this issue over the years.

One side of my brain see's nothing wrong with some poor sap that's an action junkie and wants to throw 2 bits on a big time hs football game thats airing on espn ..... but the other side of my brain thinks it's sickening that coaches , parents , and adults are involved with cheating and corruption in junior high sports and things like the little league worlrd series.

...but i read (here on the rx somewhere) that one of the college recruiting sites is going to start monitoring 6th graders. ... wtf ?

I doubt -in any High School Game that has a line hung on it (which means the teams are very good and it is most likely on TV somewhere)

That any of the Coaches or Players would risk thier potential college scholarships and/or chance at a lucrative Pro career?

Just to shave pts and/or alter the outcome of a game ......for some side money!!!

But -inside info on which team may be "more Prepared " would be something that could be obtain more easily and readily reliable than any Colllege or Pro Game -since they keep these things -tight lipped these days..............

First it was Ohio and Pennsylvania that was famous for high school wagering in football and then it trickled down to Florida and Texas.....

It happens all the time....

the only way the kids benefit would be if the networks started paying the schools, then it's up to the school to make sure the kids are taken care of with new computers or books or whatever.

legal wagering on kids increases viewership for the networks which in turn can charge more for ads which in turn means more funds available for them to give to the schools which means more money for the kids

When it comes to amateurs, everyone benefits BUT the kids.
