I remember it. Was watching a different game on ESPN and they broke in. That team was really, really good.

Gathers, Lowry, Kimble, Friar. Think they had a guy named Peabody?

I remember it too. Man, that's sad. Yes, the team was really good. Bo Kimble shooting fts lefthanded in honor of Hank. Seemed like he shot them well, too.

Very sad. Did not know about this. Can you imagine in this day and age if they let a guy with a heart problem play? Amazing.

The SEC Network showed the LSU-Loyola game from 1991 a couple of weeks ago. Gathers put up 40+ on Shaq and Stanley Roberts.

For the younger guys that didn't see this Loyola team play, they made it to the Great 8 in 1990 which is the last time they even made it to the tourney. Hank Gathers was a legit NBA prospect. He was an absolute stud.

Remember it well....He lead the country in scoring and rebounding in the same season i believe.

Paul Westhead was the coach.

Was on the beach in Cancun. I was sipping on a coco loco when my buddy told Hank just passed away. Remember like it was yesterday

He would have been saved if medical attention was administered.

Erik Spoelstra played for Portland that year. He was on the court when Gathers died.

Back then, every game wasn't on TV like it is today, but how exactly did they manage to score 125 points every game. Sure they had 2 NBA players but teams rarely score 100 in college and they averaged well above that. You would think the other teams would just slow the ball down to keep the game manageable. Wasn't the shot clock 45 seconds then too
