appears we are slowly finding our way to the end of the Dwayne Bowe era. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Kansas City Chiefs plan to cut Dwayne Bowe if they can not find a trade partner for him.

Bowe is set to have a $14 million cap hit in 2015 after signing a five-year, $56 million deal two years ago. The Chiefs are up against the cap with Justin Houstongetting the franchise tag earlier this week. With his big contract, it would be tough to find a trade partner, especially with so many good young receivers coming into the league.
If released (pre-June 1), Bowe's contract would save the Chiefs $5 million in cap space but also include $9 million in dead money. Designating him a post-June 1 cut would spread that cap hit out over two seasons. The Star's Terez Paylor has a nice breakdown of the money here.

We've talked this offseason about whether Bowe would possibly take a pay cut in order to remain in Kansas City. The thinking behind that is that the Chiefs have few options at receiver. Bowe certainly hasn't played up to a $56 million contract but he is still one of the Chiefs best options at receiver -- until they find someone else. Apparently, the Chiefs are set to fill those receiver needs in free agency or the NFL Draft, where they hold the 18th overall pick.
If the Chiefs and Bowe end up parting ways -- I say if because free agency doesn't start until March 10, and things have changed before -- it would continue quite the overhaul of the Chiefs receivers after cutting Donnie Avery and AJ Jenkins already this offseason.

Getting away from Alex Smith he should have a couple of years of 80 catches, 1000+ yards before he declines.

Another example of a guy who with a real qb could be a borderline Hall of Famer. Unbelievable teams weren't going 0-16 in 2011. If I were an owner, I would demand it.

Truth. He's built up quite a career set of numbers with Damon Huard, Brodie Croyle, Tyler Thigpen, Matt Cassel, Kyle Orton, Tyler Palko, and Alex Smith throwing to him.

bowe never lived up to what he was supposed to be.he dropped balls quite frequently, was afraid to go accross the middle and lacked leadership in the locker room and on the field.not to mention the problem child he was also.to me he was a overpaid player and just not the number 1 that he was supposed to be.

They should cut all of their WR's, it's not like they use them.

I have a feeling Alex Smith puts in the work, but at the end of the day, just doesn't have the talent. I thought the same thing with him in San Francisco. A smart guy, hard worker but Ryan Leaf would prob. give them better results for 10% of the cost. Notice how Urban Meyer qb's succeed in college but it just doesn't translate to the NFL. Chris Leak, Tim Tebow, Alex Smith, all 3 of those Ohio St. quarterbacks now, was he Josh harris's coach at Bowling Green? Can't remember.

Yes he was. Meyer recruits for his system and not NFL potential. We will find out soon about Mariotta and how the Oregon system translates to the NFL.

I think the Oregon system has proven it doesn't work in the NFL. Quarterback, running back, wide receivers. Only Oregon player I can think of that is decent in the NFL on offense is Alex mack, a center which really doesn't have alot to do with system.

Remember how dynamic Lamichael james was at Oregon, hardly gets a carry in the NFL

Kyle Long will have a good career in Chicago. Blount is from Oregon also, he is more like a traditional RB though.

I hate these "systems" in college. It is like the air raid offense or whatever it was called. where you have 3 offensive lineman, qb in shotgun and all the others are scattered across the line of scrimmage or a yard behind to make it legal with a back next to qb. The armed force teams should run that instead of that bs 1960's wishbone.

Long is defense and Blount has been on the waiver wire. And yes, he is not a typical jet sweep rb which is typical of Chip/ Oregon.

Percy harvin probably would have won the Heisman if he went to Oregon playing against those crap defenses running the jet sweep
