Are you dreaming of Hawaii? Your dreams may be buried in disappointment if you're planning on visiting the big island Thursday.
A rare blizzard warning has been issued for a small part of our 50th, most tropical state. Yes, you read correctly; a blizzard warning.
Hawaii, which is the only state in the union that grows by the day, is also the worlds tallest mountain when going from the sea floor to the peak. Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa soar to over 13,000 feet, above sea-level, at it's summits allowing for snow to occasionally dust the ground.
Thursday's snow event is different however. The National Weather Service is calling for up to 5 inches of snow and winds up to 65 mph with temperatures in the mid 20s.
A blizzard warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occuring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions making travel extremely dangerous.
