INDIANAPOLIS – The <nobr>Trent Richardson </nobr> era is over in Indianapolis.

On Thursday afternoon, the Colts waived Richardson.

Since being traded to the Colts in Week Three of the 2013 season, Richardson struggled to find any consistency in the run game.

He started 20-of-29 games with the Colts and rushed for 977 yards on 316 carries.

It looked as if Richardson was settling into a combo role with Ahmad Bradshaw earlier this season.

Richardson had a season-high 77 rushing yards on 14 carries in a Week Seven matchup against the Bengals.

However, a fourth-quarter hamstring injury ended Richardson’s day early and he could not get back on track the rest of the season.

He did not record a carry in the Colts Wild Card win over the Bengals and was then inactive the next week in Denver.

Richardson did not travel to the team’s AFC Championship game against New England and it was later announced that he was suspended for two games (the second of which would have come in the 2015 season opener for the Colts).

The Colts running back position, sans Richardson, was bolstered earlier this week with the addition of <nobr>Frank Gore </nobr>.

Currently on the roster, the Colts have Gore, Boom Herron, <nobr>Vick Ballard </nobr>, <nobr>Zurlon Tipton </nobr> and <nobr>Jeff Demps </nobr> as their running backs.

With an exceptionally deep running back draft class in 2015, a young back could complement the names above.

This guy in 3 seasons has been a bust for 2 different teams as the 3rd overall pick in the Luck draft. Never take a running back in round 1. He and RG 3 are the exact reasons.

Gonna take him a year to leave 3 yards at a time

Agree. I figured he'd have a productive career. But it's been proven over and over, there's no need to take a RB in the 1st round anymore. I like Richardson. Hopefully he has a 'come to Jesus' moment here and gets his shit together. He could make somebody a very good RB.

Only a 400K cap hit difference between Gore and Richardson and that is just this year. Decreases each year of his 3 year deal.

I think he got too into weight lifting. He bulked up quite a bit his junior year at alabama and didn't look as explosive as he did his sophomore season. Once he got to nfl he couldn't run over people and it was evident he didn't really have good vision and the added bulk took away his quickness.

I think a large part of a successful running back in the NFL is just flat out heart. You see guys coming out of nowhere every year. They end up leading the team in rushing when in camp, they are not even guaranteed a roster spot. Just with the Colts, you have Herron and Vick Ballard. Richardson had millions guaranteed to him before he even touched the ball. Look at how Forcett comes in and the Ravens didn't miss a beat. He was a 7th round pick. If Richardson didn't suck, Herron would have never even seen the field. I would never EVER give a running back a 2nd contract/ big contract. They are so easily replaceable and that goes for Peterson as well. He has been the best player on the Vikings since he came in the league and it has gotten them nowhere.

Was hoping he would turn it on when the Colts got him....damn i was fooled.

What was it? The 24th overall pick was basically traded for him. Geeze. The Colts have a history of taking running backs in the 1st round. Edge in 99. Addai later in 05 or so, Donald Brown after that prob. 09, and really Richardson as well. Such a waste of a 1st round pick.

The Browns caught a lot of heat when they traded him. Looks like the were right.

The Browns are snake bit/cursed when it comes to selecting qbs. For years they have either picked an unproven rookie or a guy past his prime. (If he even had a prime). A change in ownership did not change their current mo. Nothing has worked out for the in the qb slot so far. This year looks to be more of the same.

This is true. Trade up to take Quinn, trade up for 46 year old Weeden. Take Manziel. I still say Tim Couch could have been great.
