Metta World Peace, the forward formerly known as Ron Artest, is a St. John’s great, and he has now expressed his interest in coaching his alma mater on Twitter.

The former NBA star is now playing in Italy. But he's keeping his eye open for other opportunities, apparently.

While reports have surfaced that St. John’s legend Chris Mullin is a candidate for the job, which was vacated by Steve Lavin this afternoon, World Peace has publicly thrown his hat into the ring:

I doubt that he’ll get much traction as a candidate, but truthfully, I’ve never wanted anything more. #MettaWorldPeaceForStJohns.

Not this guy again. Too stupid to coach, no self control, My God, this idiot squared up with a fan. I was rooting for the fan. He is better suited for WWE if he wants another career. He already changed his name. He ruined a title contender.

I think in this day and age, you don't have a big timeline so recruiting means so much...Over the short time, only way recruiting is happening is hiring a black coach. The kids that are 18 have never heard of Chris Mullin. For New York that is.

We've tried that route before, hasn't worked with St. John's

Chris will be fine working and recruiting ALL Players

Needs a 6 year timeline. It isn't the same era as Louie Carnaseva. U could prob. have a final 4 team just off New York every year. No one cares. They want the NBA

IMO Chris Mullen is an unproven commodity. He has never coached, nor recruited, on the collegiate level. Think they could do better.

He's been the head of College scouting for the Kings the past 2 years

Scouting and signing are two different things. Contracts and scholarships are too.

I don't dislike Mullen but Vlad made a good point too. A lot of people will only know Chris Mullen as the head of collage scouting for the Kings.
