I was a sophomore at Vandy, had to take physics for the gear degree, and we used one of the first Mac's to do calc's for our experiments. Knew right then and there someone was gonna get rich. I also got a shot at the beta Windows back in '84, knew that was gonna bring da moola.

[ A little perspective... ]

The last words of Steve Jobs -
I have come to the pinnacle of success in business.
In the eyes of others, my life has been the symbol of success.
However, apart from work, I have little joy. Finally, my wealth is simply a fact to which I am accustomed.
At this time, lying on the hospital bed and remembering all my life, I realize that all the accolades and riches of which I was once so proud, have become insignificant with my imminent death.
In the dark, when I look at green lights, of the equipment for artificial respiration and feel the buzz of their mechanical sounds, I can feel the breath of my approaching death looming over me.
Only now do I understand that once you accumulate enough money for the rest of your life, you have to pursue objectives that are not related to wealth.
It should be something more important:
For example, stories of love, art, dreams of my childhood.
No, stop pursuing wealth, it can only make a person into a twisted being, just like me.
God has made us one way, we can feel the love in the heart of each of us, and not illusions built by fame or money, like I made in my life, I cannot take them with me.
I can only take with me the memories that were strengthened by love.
This is the true wealth that will follow you; will accompany you, he will give strength and light to go ahead.

Love can travel thousands of miles and so life has no limits. Move to where you want to go. Strive to reach the goals you want to achieve. Everything is in your heart and in your hands.
What is the world's most expensive bed? The hospital bed.
You, if you have money, you can hire someone to drive your car, but you cannot hire someone to take your illness that is killing you.

Material things lost can be found. But one thing you can never find when you lose: life.
Whatever stage of life where we are right now, at the end we will have to face the day when the curtain falls.
Please treasure your family love, love for your spouse, love for your friends...
Treat everyone well and stay friendly with your neighbours.

Respectfully, do you have a cite for the above?

I find it interesting that a man as clearly connected as Jobs would perceive that there is an "end" to life when clearly that is not so

It appears the referenced "deathbed last words" of Steve Jobs are something fictional.

His sister - who was supposedly at his actual passing - claims his final words were "Wow, oh Wow, oh Wow!"

That seems far more likely for someone who I am confident approached the so-called death experience with no trepidation, but rather as simply another adventure on his eternal path

Barman, you think he would have been wrong to believe in no afterlife?

The term "afterlife" is common, but wholly insufficient to describe the state of being following the human "death experience".

Consciousness is eternal and from what I've read of Jobs he had a clear understanding of such.

Everyone's got the right to believe what they want but I disagree. Jobs was a fool at first thinking that he'd be cured with his magical thinking and home remedies. What it became clear that he was really dying it was too late and he resorted to the tired and true western medicine.

As for afterlife. Great idea but absolutely no proof for it but I'd love for it to be real.

What part of what was posted as his last words by festeringZit do you disagree with barman?

As I read those I had the thought "Wow. This is something like barman and that other guy would try to tell us."

And I thought had they put this at the end of the new movie they might have "changed the game".

What am I missing here, about this deal or were you just asking re: really being his last words and you in fact support the statement?

....or, at least, it's sentiments. Love, Compassion, Empathy, Selflessness, Disavowment of Ego and the like.

I have no particular disagreement with the content of the fictional "final words".

I am simply noting they are in fact not words expressed by Steve Jobs

When one comes to a knowing that consciousness is eternal, "regret" is eliminated.

That is what caused me to quickly doubt the words were those of Jobs. I believe regret was a choice in which he rarely, if ever engaged

Oh.

I didn't "catch the vibe" if you will that these were how he would have communicated such myself. Either in actual words or by merely saying them. I mean....were he of a mind to communicate something like this he'd likely have had a Transcriber made to be present, at the very least if not communicate this in some more grandiose computer rendered way leaving the world without uncertainty in this regard. Didn't sense these were even his words let alone his last ones.

I approve of the message though.

Think it could have been said more succinctly.

Expressing regret is a very normal human action but nonetheless it remains wholly irrational and I think it's reasonable to view Jobs as an extremely rational thinker.

-----

With regard to the words expressed in the essay posted by my Texas bud FestZit: I find many of the sentiments similar to my own choices in thinking and behavior save for the expression of regret for previous choices.

A rational thinker would never wish "I could have done it differently". Instead, he would simply Do It differently Now.

With regard to the words expressed in the essay posted by my Texas bud FestZit: I find many of the sentiments similar to my own choices in thinking and behavior (Point B) save for the expression of regret for previous choices.

A rational thinker would never wish "I could have done it differently". Instead, he would simply Do It differently Now. (Point C)

(Point A): Damn that ^^^^ gets a guy thinking.....prospect of overcoming that most Natural of Instinctual Behavior near unto the hour of one's demise. Our Life flashes before our eyes, it is said. I sense you are describing a level that few get to, being able to avoid some regret. Setting the bar pretty high there bar. :):)

(Point B) AHA!!! I was right. It was stuff you and that other guy have been trying to tell us lol. It did seem familiar.

(Point C): To clarify any possible confusion: You mean based upon the fact that he does not perceive himself to be at an Ending.

Not implying he should rise up off of his Death bed at that moment and do all those things he would do differently.....for whatever time is left to him.
